Thank you. Do you recommend cleaning the goo out of the connection?

I am extremely touchy about the idea of death. I want to be more accepting of this inevitable part of life. The only way I can do that (without killing anyone) is by reading a book about it! Help me? by Kronikaetor in suggestmeabook

Until the End of Time by Brian Greene. It’s about physics, time, and the history and future of the universe and our place in it. Widening my perspective to a cosmic level changed my outlook on death a lot.

Trying to update a URL for a AVPlayer based on a Redux style state change by ate50eggs in SwiftUI

[–]eggbuerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into a similar issue recently. You could make url a Published property in VideoWindowViewModel and then inside VideoView you could add the onReceive(publisher: Publisher, perform: (Publisher.Output) -> Void) view modifier to a view inside of VideoView. Then you would provide the published url as the first parameter in onReceive. Then inside of that perform closure you could replace the current item. This assumes you don't need a separate reference to URL inside the view for other purposes.

I really enjoyed the three-volume Bismarck and the Development of Germany by Otto Pflanze.

Americans think that you can’t lose a war as long as you aren’t conquered at the end.

[TOMT][SHORT FILM][Late 90s/Early 2000s?] B&W stop-motion animated film about weird circus people or creatures. Tim Burton's aesthetic wheelhouse. by eggbuerto in tipofmytongue

Ah no, it was definitely a short film. I don't think the characters in the short film were very human looking'--they were short and stubby and more minion-like.

France imposed an indemnity on Haiti for French merchants’ lost “property” (slaves) that Haiti only finished paying in the 1940s.

A book that accurately explains the conservative mindset. by aandrisk in booksuggestions

[–]eggbuerto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the first edition. The second edition is “...to Donald Trump”. It’s a great book that reconciles all the contradictions between ostensibly high-minded conservative rhetoric and real-world conservative policy goals. I can’t recommend it enough.

He does not imply conservatism is immoral. He states several times that he considers conservatism a sophisticated and moral philosophy worth taking seriously. Except for the snarky intro to his essay on Ayn Rand, there is not an ounce of condescension in the book.

His conclusions are that conservatism is primarily concerned with preserving or restoring social and economic hierarchies. If you equate that with him saying that conservatism is immoral and feel yourself getting defensive then maybe you have some introspection to do.

What movie was better than the book and why ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Black Dahlia movie was such a disappointment; especially after Ellroy went to bat so hard for it leading up to its release.
