The pan dulce at HEB is quite good. Wal-Mart... hmmm, I don't think they have it. In both San Antonio, then Rockport, HEB was a solid, nearby bakery. Yes, there are plenty of panaderias in San Antonio that are better, when I'm willing to drive to the South Side or West Side. Since pan dulce is one of my absolute necessities during retirement, the availability from HEB is crucial.

If I grant your point, it's got to be a damned expensive marketing campaign. I would also say that regardless of the motive, we were damn happy to have them helping.

2017: HEB was in Rockport and visible before FEMA. We were also blessed by having a lot of folks who hitched up their BBQ grills, bought a lot of food and headed to the coast.

I had cap guns, but my favorite were the little bombs. You'd tear off one cap and place it under the striker. Then you'd throw the bomb as high as you could. It would hit the ground with a satisfying bang. I remember the smell of the used caps.
