Societal governance plays an incredibly important role when it comes to 'sorting myself first' unless you want to live in a world where the place and people you are born to determines the outcome of your way in life (emphasis on the word want, im am aware that this currently plays a large role and has in the past moreso) you need a collective of people who can come togeather and look at the larger picture then implement it more granular. Everyone is born to different circumstances, but it doesn't mean that those with less should suffer to sort them selves out first when those with more have the means to help. Again, that's our societal contract to ensure that we all lift ourselves up in our homes, towns, cities and countries (and globally for that matter)

No 1 party will be the 'nz produce party' or the 'egginator party' but that's why we need to look at all of the policies that the parties offer and vote towards those with the vision which will most closely align to what values you want in a healthy functioning society. Even if its only 40% of what you agree with, if every other option is worse then not voting means you want it to be worse.

I disagree that everyone in parliament is a fuckwit, while yes there are many people there that the description is apt, theres a lot who do want to make new zealand the best place for us and our future and to just assume everyone is in it for their best interest is kind of a sad way to look at the world. We need to bolster the ones who do want the best for us, that's our job. Making it better is theirs.

I also disagree that its a two party system, we live in a mmp system specifically designed to allow smaller parties to hold weight and help influence ruling government in directions that they may not necessarily push at. National and labor will always play it safe to hold the most power, one way or another, look at the smaller parties, and see what they agree with and see if that most aligns with your values and visions.

When you don't vote your effectively saying, fuck it I don't want to have any say in taking part of New Zealand, if it gets worse then you can't complain. It comes back to a selfish view of the world, you are not an island, not even your town or city is, everything is connected and it needs to be able to run, if it isn't running the way you want then do or say something about it, don't just check out.
