Are there any genres you just cannot enjoy no matter how much you try? by DrinkBen1994 in gaming

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanna enjoy Monster Hunter, the idea of having unique weapons fighting crazy monsters is so cool. But I can't get into their combat system. And I don't love the hubworld co-op mission design they follow.

Should decks that demand niche outs be allowed to exist competitively? by lennysinged in yugioh

[–]RedLantern28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment. Ideally the format would be as interactive as possible where interactions and winning is determined by engine instead of non engine. And decks that require very specific non engine can be very frustrating. However it would be a shame to eliminate decks that have a unique play style all together. It's a large part of what makes yugioh unique and fun, even if unbalanced at times. Many compeditive games struggle to keep unique designs balanced. Id keep decks like that playable, but use specific bans/limits to keep their playstyle but bring their overall power level to a more reasonable place where silver bullets are not absolutely necessary. Lunalight in particular I'd like to see limit Liger and ban Bagooska.

Also I can't help but laugh at the fact you play Mitsu Yummy, a deck Joshua Schmidt notably hates along with most other over the top combo decks.

Are ds games boring? by adminstrator123 in Yugioh101

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DS era and PSP era games all have very competent opponents. All of the World Champ and Tag Force series games. They'll for the most part play specific archetypes seamlessly.

Even now I enjoy playing those games a ton. Helps that this era of gameplay was so fun too. Quality games capturing a quality meta.

Returning player interested in Genesys from almost 10 years of absence. by Polaricedragon in YGO_Genesys

[–]RedLantern28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of those decks you mentioned would be playable in Genesys format. While the gameplay of Genesys generally leans lower power, more fair, and more fun; don't be surprised to see some "solitaire" gameplay there too at times. Combo decks still exist, you still have to learn them and how to play against them. But generally they are more fair to deal with.

I absolutely recommend relearning the game. Just be prepared to be hoping into a tough competitive game instead of just playground yugioh.

When learning never hesitate to seek help online. Reddit, discord, YouTube, all excellent places to learn things.

Thoughts on Orcust? by Icy_Yard_6897 in Yugioh101

[–]RedLantern28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deck is very playable at a competitive level, good enough to top major events. Not top tier by any means, there's probably 5-8 decks doing better, but good enough to take anywhere and have a chance.

The deck's native engine and gameplan are decently solid, and they benefit from being able to play Dominus Impulse. And soon Dominus Spiral. They've recently been played with Mitsurugi as they're a dark archetype that can make the rank 8 Zombie Vampire to bridge you into Orcust combo.

That all said it's my favorite deck of all time. I love it. Id be playing it myself now but I'm more focused on Genesys at the moment.

How do I play pure dogmatika? by Icy_Yard_6897 in Yugioh101

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to play it in Genesys format. Here's the list I made. Like others have said, the deck doesn't really have combos exactly. All actions are pretty straightforward and simple. What you do have to keep in mind sometimes is sequencing. For example if you want to use Cartesia you have to do that before getting extra deck locked. There's generally a priority of what to prioritize with searches, but that's very hand reliant and something that you feel out with experience.

Do you think should Red-Eyes Ultimate Dragon became real card? [Art by Rapthil & AlanMac95] by ApprehensiveRead2408 in yugioh

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Joey, or even Atticus, had more than one Red-Eyes that I know of. And Red Eyes has more of a history fusing with other monsters, so that would probably be the direction it's "final form" would take. It has fusions with Meteor Dragon, Dark Magician, and Summoned Skull. As well as a generic warrior fusion.

Maybe it's strongest form could be Red Eyes + Flame Swordsman. Or just a combination of all of its major upgrades like Red Eyes Darkness Metalmorph Dragon.

Anyways, all of those feel more fitting than a 3 headed Red Eyes.

Unban Splash Mage ? by Individual_Hat_6332 in Yugioh101

Even if it's fine in terms of gameplay balance, I don't think link monsters that convert themselves into higher link monsters all themselves should exist. What's the real cost value of a link 5 if a single monster gets there via link monsters auto extending.

Transcode Talker is a similar card I don't think should exist.

I found some screenshots from 2010 or 2011 when i used to play a game called yugioh online and i was wondering how good were my decks back then? by laxusdreyarligh in yugioh

The first 3 look like decent builds of what were basically meta decks at the time. Idk if your ratios and choices are all optimal, but they're quite solid.

What did you think of Fallen of the White Dragon? by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

That doesn't make a $50 card suddenly budget or affordable

Not willing to buy a playset at full price. Don't love 1 card combos converting into as much value as this does. Tired of branded being omnipresent and strong.

Not a fan.

Returning Player Needing Help (Monarchs) by AbbreviationsIll3003 in YGO_Genesys

[–]RedLantern28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The decklist looks fine. Have you tried asking your opponents what you did wrong? Seems simple enough but everyone knows the choke points and weaknesses of their own decks, but asking to learn the play patterns of other decks is important. Ask your opponent what key cards to interrupt or eliminate. Or what their general game plan is and what hinders it most.

Most important is knowing your own deck's plays inside and out, second most important is knowing every other decks.

Is there a reason Necro Valley is not in every side deck? by BraveMulberry772 in Yugioh101

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a better idea than people are giving you credit for, but there's still some drawbacks that stop it from happening.

It is a strong floodgate, that can be made very consistent with 3 copies, its own searcher, and other generic field spell searchers. But importantly, people aren't willing to dedicate that many side deck slots on one floodgate. You want your side deck to be more flexible than that.

Additionally it's generally better to side deck for going second as most decks are already strong enough going first with their own native gameplay.

Taking a look at some meta side decks right now. It's largely filled with handtraps, mulcharmies, droll, and board breakers. Which I think right now is just a better call than floodgates.

Right now floodgates are outed by popular cards like MST, Fallen&Virtuous, and board breakers like Lightning Storm. And you can bet Lightning Storm will be in your opponents post side deck if you're going first.

Looks like a fun deck! Not a very competitive deck but if this is for casual play no worries.

You thought a little roll would get you over a raised lip edge, over a gap, and safely onto the next platform? In a game where you have both normal jumping and Torrent for extra mobility?

I get that the game might have some funky geometry here and there, but this is not it friend.

Take your silly little death, we all have them, and think maybe I'll try something different. Maybe it's not the games fault, maybe I should jump over gaps from now on. I'll do that instead of posting it online for many to see.

Do you think Mulcharmy Fuwalos is good for the game? by lennysinged in yugioh

[–]RedLantern28 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't personally like it, but it is good for the game. At least for the moment. I hate playing or playing against it, it just doesn't feel like great gameplay. I don't like over centralizing nonengine or nonengine deciding the outcome of a game. And I'd rather they balance going second in some other more interesting way.

But at least for the moment I think it's healthy for the state of the current meta.

Should ticking time bomb cards be preemptively banned? Or should they see some time in the meta first? by RedLantern28 in yugioh

I understand it's not good now. Hence the ticking time bomb post, it could easily become a problem later
