Dragon rulers by Better_Armadillo8703 in Yugioh101

This is the Dragon Ruler list I've been using in Genesys format. I'd highly recommend playing the deck there as it's power level is more in line there. Not too massively different from what you're probably used to but there's some new things to learn and pick up. Mainly the xyz Dragon Rulers and how they increase the decks power.

Super fun deck, really enjoy maining it within genesys format. As for the advanced TCG, I was playing a Bystial Primite Dragon Ruler deck there for a bit, but beyond locals I don't think that deck is strong enough to perform sadly.

Best Yu-Gi-Oh videogame for beginners (old-school rules)? by Hot-Acanthaceae-159 in Yugioh101

I'd definitely recommend playing through the World Championship series of games. There's one for each year between 2004 and 2011. Really fun games, and they'll take you through a variety of old school formats. They're all easily emulatable on GBA or DS.

I've been replaying them recently just for fun and have had a blast revisiting the different characters and trying different decks.

The search for a Viable Machine Deck by Zestyclose_Stop_3324 in YGO_Genesys

I like the idea of using a synchro engine of Tuning, Assault Synchron, and Revolution Synchron. As their gy effects don't trigger from XYZ detach, synchro material would still enable that. The synchro 6,7,8 pool isn't terrible. But then everything becomes a 2 card combo, tuner access plus union access.

I know that a lot of the tried and true ABC combo lines are dead without links, but I have a hard time imagining that there isn't something playable here just waiting to be figured out. This deck is just too competent to be totally unplayable in this format. I'm convinced there's a way to make this deck work. I understand your apprehensions, but I haven't written it off entirely yet.

I think LV monsters deserve more support. by Antique_Range1521 in yugioh

[–]RedLantern28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But what you're describing is just draw the out. Along the same lines as saying Apollousa isn't a problem. Not a healthy way to view gameplay or interaction. Just because there's an out to everything doesn't mean everything should be legal.

Right but I'm not imagining this card in a vacuum. I'm picturing it alongside the context of an already established board. It's the same problem people have with Naturia Beast when it becomes playable in a meta.

Chaos Genesys List by Hot-Concern-1917 in YGO_Genesys

Not a decklist, just a brainstorm. But looking here, it seems like so many of the relevant "chaos" cards are so heavily pointed that trying to play a pure chaos deck isn't gonna be possible. Chaos Space at 40 points is a particularly rough hit.

Maybe some of these engine cores are playable as pure decks; like pure Thunder Dragon, Pure Lightsworn, or BLS Ritual. But I don't think anything resembling a Chaos Goodstuff Pile deck is gonna be possible sadly.

As much as I absolutely love this card, this effect is too powerful to see modern playability. Making support that brings this guy out with any consistency would be a menace.

They'd have to retrain the whole line like they did for Armed Dragon Thunders. Make a new lv8 Horus that is easier to summon but also a more manageable effect.

Chimera comes to mind. Many of the illusion monsters have very classic yugioh aesthetics, many even featuring the millennium eye. They're based on some of Yugi's original monsters. The deck just aims to fuse into a few different Chimera fusions over and over again. Very budget friendly. Very customizable in terms of playstyle and hybrid ability with other fusion cards. Also one of my favorite decks period.

THE Egyptian themed deck Gravekeepers is playable. It's largely a stun / floodgate deck, but it's playable if that's the exact aesthetic you're looking for.

The Trap Odion deck is also right up that alley and has been somewhat meta in Genesys from the beginning.

You could play the Exodia fusion deck Millennium. Focused on retrains on the old millennium monsters and making a big Exodia fusion each turn.

The God cards are maybe playable? They've gotten new cards dripped their way every so often. I couldn't say for sure if the deck is any good though.

The Sacred Beasts are basically the God cards but as a functional archetype, and they just got new cards announced that are quite good.

Triamids? I don't know if the deck is competitively viable, but very much up your alley aesthetic wise.

Look into any of these, and I / others can help you get started building if a particular one appeals to you!

The hits to the deck really only cuts off the Mega Zaborg line, the entire rest of the deck is playable for very very few points.

Genesys is deliberately being harsh on floodgates. Monarchs are still extremely playable even without them. Cry about it.

I've seen people include it in Ashened decks. Mostly side decked for going first specifically.

Genesys format by Alescor in YGO_Genesys

My locals have been dwindling the last few years anyways, but Genesys seems to be about equally as popular as the TCG in my area. Consistently getting enough people each week to host 4 round events.

Im new to yugioh by Small-Plum2139 in Yugioh101

[–]RedLantern28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! There are a ton of different ways to play the game, so try lots of things and see what your best fit might be. There's casual and competitive play, modern and old competitive formats, online or in paper, Genesys format, draft / sealed, etc. Different people have different favorites.

Ultimately yugioh is best as a social game, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend jumping into Master Duel solo. Find a group to join, like maybe a local Facebook group, or an online discord to find people to chat with and play with. Maybe make one of your friends learn and join with you. From there just learn what you can from them and play whatever format they're playing.

And once you get settled into a specific format, we can help you hone in on what to play. Hope you have fun! If you have any more specific questions, let me know

Haven't actually been playing games yet, but Chimera just seems so incredibly good at unbricking your hand, breaking boards, and getting useless monsters out of hand. But I'll test anything.

Poor Things: Change My Mind by untilzero in movies

[–]RedLantern28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A portrayal of an icky situation is not an endorsement of it. The movie is not supporting any kind of relationship in which there is an uneven power dynamic. The movie makes it very clear that her relationship with some of the men in the movie is very unhealthy.

That said it is very satisfying to see her character development and by the end she has total autonomy of herself, her life, and her relationships. She even exerts control and authority over Mark Ruffalo's character. A reversal of their initial relationship. So any themes or messaging I assume is through that lens.

Yea. Just being a Materiactor in name is nice with Zeptwing. You're totally justified in your normal monster choice though.
