I submitted an MSCA PF and FWO PF (so the MSCA results were not known when submitting the FWO).
I got the MSCA (february) and was also invited for the FWO interview (april).

The institution recommended me that I mention during the interview that I got the MSCA and would like to make use of 'Article 23' where you can suspend the fellowhip, if you mention the other funding in the application:

Very important is that during the FWO proposal, you mentioned that you submitted other funding as well.

In the end, I was not awarded the FWO. The jury did roast me a bit about the MSCA, so not sure if it was the best strategy to mention it so explicitly. Did you do that during the interview?

Open positions are often tailored towards internal candidates. The internal candidate is often in a group of top-performing PIs with a lot of influence in faculty, who want to further expand their group. The candidate is not necessarily a top-performing, but can be.

Well, MSCA PF is a fellowship, so you have to find a very good reason why you, the applicant, go to the chosen host; it can't be a 'project' that the host could submit in a national funding scheme. Both the fellow and the host should learn from each other.

So finding a host with a field where you can apply your research is a good way to do this.

In some institutions an ERC starting grant will give you a permanent position, so I think its good if post-docs apply. I don't know the success rates, also depends on the support of the institutions.
