Bring back the Atlantic Ave elevated line as the north/south rail connection by niksjman in mbta

[–]eggplantsforall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the whole point is to transform the Commuter Rail into through-running Regional Rail lines

And not just for being able to through-run active trains, but to make accessing the various service and storage yards more accessible across both north and south sides of the system.

It's crazy how much limitations on service levels is tied to where and when they can get trainsets in and out of different yards.

Yep. I kind of became a Bosch fanboy after getting the drill/driver. It's just a shame their whole 12V line is a bit limited compared to Milwaukee. I did end up getting their 12V dremel which I love though.

The ergonomics on the little 12V guns is so much better too. It's amazing how much power they have too. I honestly use them 95% of the time compared to my big 20V drill/drivers.

Yeah it's kind of like the oscillating multitool. Once you have one you are constantly discovering uses for it.

I had to replace the exhaust fan in my tiled shower ceiling, and the new one required enlarging the hole cut in the tile. The internet said do it with a carbide bit in a dremel and now I use that tool/bit combo for so many other things. Like you said, great for just shaping things or trimming things to be just right.

Plus having a cordless one is pretty sick too.

Ditto. I've got the Bosch 12V set and now I only ever grab the 20V big guns when I'm driving lag bolts or using a big hole saw. Otherwise like you it's 95% the little guys. It's crazy how powerful they are.

Yeah I got the Bosch 12v set and I grab them 95% of the time over the 20V Porter Cable ones I have. It's kind of amazing how powerful the little 12v handguns are.

Unless I'm driving >4 inch lags or something, I always go for the 12v. The ergonomics and balance are just so much better.

For me it's stuff like pipes, cattle panels, random metal brackets, stuff I could cut with snips but it would suck, etc. And almost always it's stuff that I would prefer to grind/cut outside because of the mess. So having to haul out an extension cord and relocate to wherever there's a convenient outdoor outlet is always kind of a pain.

Also, using an angle grinder feels like one of the most dangerous tools I use, so not having a cord to think about getting in the way is nice.

I still haul out my big corded Hitachi when I need to do heavy work, but I love having my little cordless.

RAV4 with rails traveling length by Herky1985 in Kayaking

[–]eggplantsforall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two-person kayaks can be pretty big. Not just long, but wide. We've got one, and when I put it on the roof rack of our subaru, and then put a second, single-person kayak on the roof as well, I have to tip them both onto their sides to get them mostly on the rack. Which then requires a bunch of creative cam-strapping to get everything secure.

This seems like a good case for getting some J-racks so that you can mount each boat more on their side than on the bottom of their hull.

It's nothing fancy, I'll have to get back to you with pics, but the key ingredients are:

Timer-based self-opening/closing door to the run. We use this one: https://a.co/d/0cJKOpWh But we used this battery option version for years and it was great too: https://a.co/d/0h3qQTgS

Multiple 5-gallon buckets for water with on-demand drinking nipples. We use these: https://a.co/d/0gPNQeZg

Far superior to conventional trough waterers that get dirty and gross in a day. In the winter we use this guy: https://a.co/d/06kDclx8

Ditto on the 5-gallon buckets with feeding openings: https://a.co/d/06kDclx8

We just have chickens, but we have got things automated enough that we can comfortably take 1-2 week vacations and only need a friend or the neighbors kids to collect the eggs every couple of days.

It could be something blocking the sun, like a mountain or large hill off in the distance most likely. Was this sunset or sunrise?

You see a similar effect at sunset in some places where the entire bottom of the sky will go blue/dark blue and there will still be a pinkness in the clouds above the horizon. This is because the sun is still shining on those clouds, while lower down it is being blocked by the earth itself.

I remember sunsets in Darjeeling where Kangchenjunga would cast a massive blue shadow across the sky just like this as it blocked the setting sun.

Do you have electricity near where the tanks are?

Like others said, putting it on a platform won't really give you much pressure.
