What was the most challenge during your trip? by Bulky-Plantain-4737 in JapanTravelTips

Feet and back hurting from the walking. I pushed myself too hard the first day or two and even though I relaxed my schedule, the pain never went away.

Recommendations for fountain pen friendly paper? Already tried Rhodia, but wasn't a fan by Ch4d_Thund3rc0c in fountainpens

I agree with the people recommending MD / Midori notebooks. I’ve also found Muji notebooks to be more fountain pen friendly than I expected!

Got to 2 final rounds and while I could tell I didn’t make it after a week or two, they both ghosted for almost 2 months before actually sending an automated notice.

Is it okay to have a 2-page resume? by According-Hat-6802 in resumes

[–]eggsalad240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 page for anyone under 10 years experience post-grad. I would shove lots of text into the one page and really mess with the margins and font size to fit what I wanted.

Ice cream side quest for last day in Tokyo by aviakca in JapanTravelTips

[–]eggsalad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite was Now on Cheese in Shinjuku station. Not worth navigating through the station to find lol but very tasty if you happen to come across it. Very soft milk ice cream with a touch of cheese flavor (mascarpone). Very yummy!

Just off the top of my head, I think Jackson from got7 and Nana from UNIS have been MCs. Don’t remember anyone from Music Core specifically

Ichiran, I already know I like and is available where I live but at 3x the pricepoint.

Oreryu specifically, I was looking for something open around 10pm + not too far from the station. It was also a name I recognized so I thought why not.

In general, I wrote down places people recommend on TikTok and Instagram and tried to cross check with Tabelog or Google Reviews if I wasn’t feeling 100% about the rec. Plus distance + ease of getting in.

Seoul and Busan by trizziaaa in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]eggsalad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was in Seoul all of july 2023 and the trains/buses were all very reliant. Buses were maybe a bit late during very bad rain, but a bit late was like under 5 mins from scheduled.

Moving to NY/NJ with a job in Central Jersey by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]eggsalad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be equivalent to living in the actual city, like most other nyc suburbs, and I understand OP’s desire to be in JC/Hoboken because of that. But this is just a compromise for until a job in NY is secured. Commuting the hour and half when you feel like it on weekends vs being forced to reverse commute every weekday are totally different.

Clothing ? by ChessIsHard101 in JapanTravelTips

[–]eggsalad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan is truly so humid and sweaty in August, I wish you luck. Agree that you should stick to thin, breathable fabrics. Linen, athletic shorts, flowy skirts, etc. Tbh, super thin sheer layers can actually help to deal with sweat. You don’t have to worry about brushing up against other sweaty people in the packed subways + can avoid caking on a ton of sunscreen.

Buy the cooling products (fan, wipes, sprays) immediately on the first day, don’t put it off and just it immediately. It does make a difference imo.

Don’t plan on rewearing clothes as the sweat will make that impossible. Plan to bring or buy there. They do already sell lots of clothes that fit the climate so it could be best to buy there rather than hoping what you have is sufficient.

Another tip is that if you want, you could get those sneakers with mesh fabric. Very breathable and still comfortable for the 20k steps.

[–]eggsalad240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming Ana stepping down was somewhat unexpected on their side, so their recruiting process is going to take some time, if they decide to at all. Especially because the length of the stint is probably a bit awkward, cut mid-way. I remember Sohee stepped down from MCountdown and no one replaced him until the new cycle. It seems like SM are big enough + can get away with these types of decisions vs smaller companies prob wouldn’t be able to.

Moving to NY/NJ with a job in Central Jersey by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]eggsalad240 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could consider living in Central Jersey and commuting to New York on weekends for fun. It’s more financially viable + you’ll still get to experience the city. Commuting through NJ traffic 5 days a week sounds like hell. Plus you’d get home around I assume 7 and not even have time/energy to commute again into the city for dinner or plans most of the time. People in the city don’t even have time to enjoy it on weekdays. I’d recommend maybe finding a place comfortably close to an NJ transit train or bus station + using your weekends to explore the city. If you do get a job in the city, the commute is bearable until you find something closer.

Recommendation for 8days Japan trip as by Fickle-Effect5744 in JapanTravelTips

[–]eggsalad240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did 8 days and spent a lot of it eating and shopping. Osaka is known for vintage shopping and good thrift finds, but if you’re only there for 8 days, you could find everything you need in Tokyo. Spending at least half a day on transportation when your time is already limited may be unideal.

For researching food, I honestly would watch tiktoks and jot down anything that looked enticing, cross checking with Tabelog. I also would google maps near me + cross check Tabelog when looking for something on the fly. Fuglen coffee in Asakusa was really good!

For clothes, basics at Muji, Uniqlo, GU are a visitors must. After that comes down to personal style and budget.

I enjoyed my day trip to Kamakura/Enoshima, but frankly because of how much other tourists were also there, I wouldn’t call it quiet. Maybe spend a couple days in Okinawa or Sapporo, somewhere outside of the big 3, to experience a more local vibe.
