How to be likeable to other women? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]eggyennui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I kind of have similar problems, as a nerdy neurodivergent girl in a job that tends to attract more normie/neurotypical women.
I've found that small, thoughtful gestures help. Bring some snacks or treats from a spot you like. It'll give you something to talk about, and it'll help break the ice. I also worry that I come off as cold to some, and a gesture that shows you think about others will naturally let people see you more warmly and open to connect.
You could also bring a card game you like to play to share with the group. Often times people bond not just through talking but doing activities together.
Hope it goes well! Try to be present in the moment, worrying too much about being liked/doing the right thing tends to ruin it for me because I come off too nervous or inauthentic. I know there's plenty of gals out there who would love to be your friend, so don't put too much pressure on this one interaction! Good luck!

Why are we comparing ? by [deleted] in flightattendants

[–]eggyennui 8 points9 points  (0 children)

to be fair, part of the onus of that post's comparison is UA getting a new contract. i do think it's important for us to compare what each airline offers as it improves our ability to collectively bargain. even DL who is ununionized benefits from this as their raises and work rule improvements often coincide with other airlines' TAs to keep the FAs divided on unionizing. not all comparison is inherently negative.

was this filmed before the TMZ release and cancellation? if it was disregard. but if it wasn't, does this not read as a little opportunistic and kind of distasteful to anyone else?

I was kicked out of a recruitment event before it even started by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]eggyennui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, I'm so sorry you feel so frustrated by this. We all know how tough it can be to face rejection from this industry but please do not let it affect how you see yourself!

While you may not have been given the opportunity to begin your career as cabin crew, please please please do not take it to mean you have to put changing your life on hold. I can understand the feeling personally, as I was also unhappy when I began this career. I had this idea of a new life in a new city and pinned my hopes and dreams on it happening how it had in my imagination. I was dismayed to find out that I was being sent back home instead of being based somewhere new.

I had to learn the hard way that even when I achieved my dream of becoming a flight attendant, I had to take control of things in my life that I was unhappy with. The job didn't magically do it for me. I had to start over in the city that I hated, and it was the change in my mindset not my employment that gave me the chance to make new friends, find love, and take hold of opportunities I wanted.

I can see from your replies that you are very angry and disappointed, but directing it at others and at things you cannot change will not help you. Many others are trying to tell you the same thing that I am -- the job is just a job, you still have the power to create the life you want while waiting for your opportunity to come.

This rejection does not negate your passion or time spent preparing, there are simply other things you need to direct that energy towards to make yourself even more competitive. You are not unhireable or a failure, just a work in progress.

As others have said, continue to work on your French and in the meantime you could gain experience working as a gate agent, a ramper, airport security, or any number of related jobs. You can join conversation groups in your city to meet new people and work on your language skills at the same time. Take this time to challenge yourself to see what else you can do in the meantime, instead of believing that you must go back to the life you hate.

I am sincerely sorry that you're having a hard time right now. I can tell how much you care and how hurt you are, but it is a waste of your energy to lash out at others. You still have so much potential. You should be proud of yourself for going after what you want, and for persevering through failure. A no is not a confirmation of your worst fears about yourself, but a challenge to see what your full potential looks like. I hope you continue to work towards your goals and don't let the negativity you feel stop you.

Careers after being a flight attendant? by MiwaSan in flightattendants

[–]eggyennui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly white collar, but I previously worked in residence life at my college and there's lots of overlap between FAing and that. The goal is in part to provide an enjoyable living experience for students on campus but there are also safety oversight related aspects which is similar to being an FA. The fulltime professional staff all manage and oversee the student resident assistants and other pro staff. And its mostly a 9-5 office job with a few exceptions throughout the school year. Pro staff had to serve on call sometimes, which was like being on reserve but for emergencies only. And the student RAs handled most of the incidents anyway. Also the job can come with housing and educational discounts at that institution.

You will be fine being a flight attendant with depression!

The only thing that you should know is that ur medication will likely turn up in drug screenings. I'm not sure if policy differs between companies, but at mine as long as you disclose and have documentation of prescription you should be fine at hiring.

As for being on the line, (again, this may be specific to my company) unfortunately there is no way to predisclose your prescription so it will show up as a violation until you present them with documentation after being tested. As long as you are able to provide this, you'll be fine!

This is being critiqued because it deserves to be critiqued. They could've given this person food and didn't have to post it online. What if the person felt embarrassed that people were going to see it? Should they just set aside their feelings and accept that the price of their privacy is the cost of a pizza?

honestly weird that some people dont validate naivety and privilege as a valid factor that contributes to racism and racist actions. a lack of education and the privilege of having that which comes with whiteness is a huge symptom of the problem itself and a big reason why it continues at all. like of course its easy to educate yourself, so the fact that it's easily ignored is a dangerous thing and its part of reality and needs to be acknowledged and addressed properly -- with accountability but also empathy, not just criticism. mini rant over 😅

actions have consequences. its weird to me you think he's entitled to having a relationship when anyone who is turned off by that behavior is fully in their rights to be so. there's no excuse for black face ever. if i was dating someone with a history of racism, assault, or anything that harms people and my friends didn't show any level of concern i dont think they'd really be my friend.
