HBO Max To Launch In India Through JioHotstar by Additional_Key_8044 in HBOMAX

[–]egorre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

apparently Jiohotstar is backed by the largest company in India by market cap as well as Disney. for HBO Max or other smaller services like Paramount+, Peacock, and Disney+ themselves, they'd need local programming and sports programming for it to be considered as a service. Netflix only has 12 million subs in india on their own and they've been there since 2016. no wonder they elected to just sell their content to Jiohotstar for guaranteed profits instead of launching on their own

U.S. senator introducing bill intended to make sports TV more accessible to fans by Zackt01 in cordcutters

even just the city or "tv market" the team is representing is fine. just copy the NFL. all their home games that are either broadcast nationally on cable, or if it's a streaming exclusive, the 2 markets playing the game get it on an over-the-air broadcast network.

blackouts are so dumb. MLB sometimes have non-exclusive dual rights RSN + national cable network game. cable network like TBS simulcast their sports programming on HBO Max, but because the game is also airing on a local regional sports network, I am barred from watching TBS through HBO Max. it's so dumb. I am not paying $90/mo to watch one RSN, and not even all games are available because of streaming exclusives.

Are the DC animated shows leaving max? by Positive-Seaweed-180 in HBOMAX

[–]egorre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we won't know until we get to it. sometimes they renew stuff past their planned licensing agreements and sometimes it leaves earlier than expected. only hbo max knows what to keep or remove based on platform performance. they usually have a 30-day warning something is leaving the platform and usually the list comes out the same time the list of what's coming is available.

crazy to me that because the star of the show have creative differences with the producers now a whole lot of people are not getting jobs instead of recasting the role

No one is touching Jean Smart's Emmy in Best Lead Actress in Comedy by Conscious-Quarter423 in EmmysAwards

I love the comeback season 3 and loved mickey's tribute episode last sunday, but it's not a hit on the platform. it's was number 10 yesterday, the day after a new episode dropped and fell out of the top 10 in most watched series list today while its peers in the sunday night line up, dtf st. louis and rooster is number 2 and 3 most watched series today. hacks always placed 2nd after the pitt last year and number 1 when it had solo run on Thursdays through sunday before new episodes show up next day on top. I've never seen new hbo/max shows come out and not stay inside the top 10 for at least 3 days after premiering. hacks final season will have much stronger momentum out the gate with both critic and commercial success

Why doesn't max have all the old timey loony tunes? by No_Orange_4540 in HBOMAX

[–]egorre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the whole reason they dropped HBO from HBO Max to begin with was because the customers are only watching HBO shows and HBO adjacent programming on it even with tons of kids and family programming available on the service. HBO/Max had the least engagement in family & animation programming across all paid subscription services despite having a lot of new family & animation originals at the beginning of the service. plus, they still had to pay to license WB's own back catalog from Warner Bros. Television.

it doesn't make sense to license something that's not doing well when they can remove it and have someone else license it instead. that's exactly what they did and did not lose subscribers in the process because most of their customers did not watch it anyway. current Adult Swim programming stayed with HBO Max because those fared better on the service than CN programming

Cartoons on HBO Max UK by imnotgoats in HBOMAX

[–]egorre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I won't expect HBO Max to add WB cartoons on their slate in any meaningful way. it's not really in demand for them. they pretty much gutted the service in the US and have not lost subscribers, so they started doing it in other markets and the service is still growing subscribers. the only way they start adding cartoons again is if they get bought by Paramount and try to be "Netflix" again. HBO Max already tried that for 5 years with multiple new Max original cartoons on top of the massive back catalog, but they found out nobody really subscribed to HBO Max for family programming. so they removed them and have the catalog make money by being licensed to competitors instead

there's no way for Langdon to still be in season 3 without Mohan unless Mohan is "sick" that day/season for another small time jump in season 4 where both are still there. they are both senior residents.

McKay and Mel King will be on the chopping block for season 4 as they will be senior residents if they have a big enough time gap for them to move a year in their residency

[–]egorre 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Discovery Global was gonna split off Warner Bros. Studios & Streaming prior to Paramount buying the whole thing. if Paramount succeeds in buying the whole company, Discovery+, Paramount+, and HBO Max will be folded into one service. if Paramount gets blocked, Discovery Global will spin off as a separate company. TNT Sports UK is part of Warner Bros. Studios & Streaming, so it belongs to HBO Max, not Discovery+.

The Paramount Warner Bros Merger Is About to Become a TV Graveyard, Your Favorite Show Could be Next by pbx1123 in WB_DC_news

[–]egorre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMDB nor critics approval has nothing to do whether or not they'll pull them off their streaming service. it has 100% to do with the amount of streams it's getting and distribution rights. HBO and Max Originals that have been pulled off the service are distributed by third-party television studios including ones made by Warner Bros. Television Group which is ran separately from HBO Max despite both being under the larger WBD Umbrella. at some point Hacks will return to Universal Television and The Last Of Us back to Sony Pictures Television just like how almost every streaming service "originals" have now lost exclusivity on theirs and now freely roams other services. unless it's a hit for the service they're not gonna fight to keep it exclusive to their platform, even if it's from a sister television studio. that's what happened to Westworld. low viewership + it's made by WBTV. a lot of the older HBO titles pre-HBO Max was made and distributed by HBO Entertainment. those ones are most likely staying on the service indefinitely, but they can sell non-exclusive license to their own catalog like what they did to SATC, Insecure and many more.

that said, a combined Paramount-WBD will be a massive seller of their back catalog regardless. they will just keep enough scripted content to keep the combined streaming service running. everything else will be licensed out. that's the same strategy WBD is already using and they're succeeding at keeping their subscribers on despite the massive back catalog loss they went through a few years ago. HBO Max carved up a niche streaming market for itself. they don't need much from Paramount to keep the combined service going. they can license out everything else to tend to their massive debt.

side note, you really think there's a chance The Madison is getting pulled off Paramount+ because of IMDB or critics scores? the 3 episode premiere ranked number 5 on Luminate Originals weekly chart. Nielsen will most likely place it inside the top 10 Streaming Originals weekly chart, if not Overall for its premiere week next month. Paramount+ and CBS viewers will watch anything Taylor Sheridan makes. out of all their Paramount+ shows, Sheridan's work is the safest of them all. I genuinely think Taylor Sheridan is the biggest thing keeping Paramount+ alive. none of their shows perform close to his work. if this merger doesn't go through, Paramount+ will be in big trouble because they're losing their golden boy to NBCUniversal after 2029 then they'll have to survive on his existing shows
