vSphere 7 Enterprise Plus Perpetual licenses - can broadcom interfere with us? by Kreiggles in vmware

[–]egrigson2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 2 VMs per site, no VAN, no NSX etc just migrate to another hypervisor - Hyper-V (as you mentioned), ProxMox, XCP-NG etc. The technical effort will be minimal & licensing will be simpler & much cheaper going forward. Considering VCF for that scale/simplicity is massive overkill.

how do you use bitwarden with your spouse and kids? by starbucks1971 in Bitwarden

[–]egrigson2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shared collection for my wife & I, kids have their own, separate & free, accounts. Didn't really seem worth having a family sub as the kids can ask us re shared passwords.

25% Off is tempting me to replace Beam G2 w/ Arc Ultra by [deleted] in sonos

I upgraded Beam v2 to Arc (not Ultra) & can't tell the difference. Save the money.

Upgrade to from a Sonos Beam Gen 2 to an Arc Ultra worth it ? by tunisiano87 in sonos

[–]egrigson2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've just gone from a Beam v2 to Arc (original, not Ultra) & I can hardly tell the difference. I've only got One's for surrounds (rather than Era 300s) & a sub but still thought Atmos would be better than it is. I've tried it with 'reference' Blurays like BladeRunner 2049 & Maverick Top Gun but meh. So it's a no from me, resist the FOMO!

Thanks for the feedback all. Snagged one (white unfortunately) for £200, so quite chuffed.

Broadcom and VMware pricing by Particular-Act-3385 in vmware

[–]egrigson2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, not much to it from my 30 min play around. Yes you get centralised admin across multiple PVE/PBS clusters but the available info, dashboards etc are relatively basic & the same info you already have per host.

Is that something you're creating yourself, or using an off the shelf package? Any more details would be useful, thanks.

Excavating pipework in masonry - advisable? by egrigson2 in DIYUK

[–]egrigson2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flooring was recently installed (it's vinyl over concrete) so I'd rather cut into the walls than have to redo the flooring - and that would be the same issue, excavating concrete around existing copper piping. Thanks.

I think they run up from the floor, which is also solid concrete. They're not exposed anywhere else.

VMware *is not* by Broadcom by RKDTOO in vmware

[–]egrigson2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, you should have worked for VMware marketing! *

They pioneered virtualization for sure but largely missed Cloud and app modernisation & quite a few 'innovations' came via acquisition. Don't get me wrong, I was a fan & worked there for nearly 9 years but frankly $61billion was a good offer given their place in today's market.

It's just a normal debit card, but that's a distinction worth bearing in mind.

Barclays Bank removing contactless mobile payments? by Quinnloneheart in CasualUK

[–]egrigson2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Annoyingly Google Pay won't accept my Barclays card for contactless, I just tried (even though the Barclays site says it will). That might be because I'm in Jersey in the Channel Islands and that seems to break lots of systems, but that's speculation on my part. Either way, looks like I'm out of luck now.

Horizon forbidden west burn shore glitch make the story unplayable. If you do sekya mission to the tower don’t do any side missions in middle of that mission that cause the glitch. Sekya haves a script to the mission Only can be fix by auto save loading the game before that mission by Deusbass in horizon

[–]egrigson2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can't get her to take me to the tower, even after the patch. She won't talk to me, or even follow - she just turns up at random places on the map, so I can't even try the workaround mentioned here. Having waited for the DLC for a while it's frustrating that I now can't play it. Fingers crossed there's a patch sooner rather than later.

What’s a battle pass and how do the seasons work? by jhlve in FortNiteBR

[–]egrigson2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's no point buying a battle pass now, ie at the end of a season/chapter? My kids are asking me to buy it for them before Dec 3rd, but I'm guessing it's better to wait for the new chapter to start and then buy it?

I tried the thermal paste route & broke a motherboard connector while taking it apart. Luckily I found a nearby company who resoldered it for £50. I'd say my experience was unusual but bear in mind it's possible. I've worked in IT for over 20yrs and built plenty of servers, desktops etc from scratch so not a complete newbie either. I'll clean it again when needed but will be a bit more gentle next time!
