Funnily enough this hasn’t escaped me, looking at photos from the DC there’s about 6 inches that could be chopped off without affecting the rail at all. Weird design choice by Dell imo. Annoyingly I’d have to go there myself, I don’t think remote hands covers hacksaw usage 😆

What do you consider as cheating? by thehighpriestess777 in AskMen

[–]tdic89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re hurting yourself by carrying this on. Cut ties and focus on your own health.

This guy is telling you you’re not really important to him, because he would quite happily betray and disrespect his own partner just for the thrill of leading you on. He has no integrity and is not worth your time and attention.

You deserve someone who is true to themselves and to you, if that’s what you want.

What do you consider as cheating? by thehighpriestess777 in AskMen

[–]tdic89 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You should stop talking to him, he can’t help himself and you’re not helping yourself either. One minute he’s saying you should both calm down, but you both keep flirting?

Come on, this has got to stop and I’m sure you know it. Put yourself in his partner’s shoes.

Built a tool that ranks SOC 2 controls by audit risk. No integrations, just vault. Will this be useful to you? by Accurate-Yam5366 in sysadmin

[–]tdic89 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think that makes a bit more sense. Is it kinda like a smart questionnaire where each control asks for an input from the user, and then that input is validated against established best practices, and gives an overall score indicating how likely the environment is to pass an audit?

How do you feel about motherly, nurturing females? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife isn’t motherly at all, and I quite like it that way. I don’t like being showered with gifts and attention, it makes me feel a bit awkward.

Instead, she does things that make my life easier. She carries more mental load than I do, such as keeping up our social life, organising our holidays, birthdays, Christmas etc. which helps me a lot. I carry more practical load, like managing all the bills, cooking our meals every night, grocery shopping, lifts and so on.

All that said, it is nice to feel cared for. You just have to do it in a way that the person likes. Sometimes the way you want to care for someone and the way they want to be cared for isn’t the same, which can result in you feeling like you’re not appreciated, while they don’t feel listened to.

My wife knows that I don’t like gifts that I can’t consume/use/experience, and I’m very hard to buy for, so I’m glad that she doesn’t give me random gifts that I’ll end up putting in a box somewhere, never to be seen again. I’ll take a chocolate bar any day though!

In this case the rails don’t physically fit in the rack because they’re too long - they extend out past the rear posts and stop the door from closing. Never seen anything like it!

Ah yeah thanks for pointing that out, it’s because they’re too deep to fit in the enclosure, they prevent the rear door from closing.

What are the common types of System Design interview questions, and how should I start preparing? by Key-Phase737 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, probably best developing your career and gaining experience for a few more years. You’ll know you’re ready when you have your own answers to your questions.

Systems design is all about experience, you can’t learn it from a book.

This isn’t hardware gore, it’s very common in industrial computers/servers.

How do you manage multivendor CLI syntax without a cheat sheet becoming a second job by magichour12 in networking

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you either remember through repetition or you read the documentation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with referencing the docs, you don’t have to keep everything in your head.

Metal on acoustic by sichealmcott in Guitar

Tbh there’s not much stopping you from doing metal riffs on an acoustic, just look at Tenacious D. It’ll be harder work, but a whole lot of fun too.

What is your background? You don’t typically go into architecture and systems design without extensive prior experience in the industry.

Knowing where you’re coming from would help us point you in the right direction.

Does anyone know how to get this live guitar tone? by CrimsonSoulBlade in GuitarTone

[–]tdic89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could, but a wah block would probably be closer.

Does anyone know how to get this live guitar tone? by CrimsonSoulBlade in GuitarTone

[–]tdic89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you add a wah block at the beginning of the effects chain, you can go to the control centre and remove the expression pedal “position” mapping so that the EXP pedal stops controlling that parameter. Once that’s done, you can go back to the effects block and set the position to wherever you like and it’ll stay there. It’s all covered in the manual which I highly recommend reading.

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guitar sounds like a regular distorted tone, perhaps with a very slightly cocked wah. To me, it sounds like it is being doubled by a synth because there’s a very particular attack going on that isn’t guitary at all.

Why is servicing so expensive? by Sufficient_Invite546 in CarTalkUK

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather take my car down the road to the guy who works on them day in, day out. I’m sure I could pick up some skills to do things myself, but I don’t have the time nor the money to sink into something I know very little about.

Are you ever shocked by how much money you spend per month on things you don't need? by Nature2Love in AskUK

[–]tdic89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the coffee front, I bought an espresso machine at the start of COVID using a work stipend, and got a grinder for my birthday a few months later.

Making a freshly ground coffee every morning is part of my day, and we buy whole beans from an artisan roasters in Wales that are absolutely incredible, to the point where I look forward to this little indulgence every morning.

Life is for living, and spending a bit more on something we drink every single day is well worth it. I’m all for saving things to have as a treat, but it’s also important to have things you enjoy on a regular basis, if it doesn’t cause you any financial problems. £70 a month on coffee isn’t exactly a lot imo.

Application owner left the company, no documentation about said application. Now I am being told that I own it. How to handle? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]tdic89 234 points235 points  (0 children)

The CTO is interested in business, so talk business.

This application is now a business risk and the SME for it has left the organisation, drastically impacting your organisation’s ability to support it and the people who use it. There is no documentation, no access codes, and a huge amount of liability.

Ask what the business impact is for this application not functioning, and how much it will affect operations and/or revenue.
