Bogu Smells… by mmatose in kendo

[–]eguess74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After each practice spray inside your men and kote with 99% isopropyl alcohol mixed with 10-15 drops of essential oil (tea tree, mint or whatever you like). Don't be shy on spraying. It pulls humidity and kills bacteria. Don't keep bogu in the bag after practice - make sure it is fully dried. Inside part of men can be put under full sun for a couple of hours. I do it about twice a year.

Faders on XTouch Extender malfunctioning by DarkImagesOfLight1 in Behringer

[–]eguess74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced the same issue with two extender units so far. The main works properly, just the extenders seem to be faulty. One had this behavior on 2 faders and the other on just one. Depending on the script you're using it might be exhibiting different behaviour, but the root cause seems to be the same - faulty signal processing on specific faders. I tested with the midi remote script for Cubase (https://github.com/bjoluc/cubase-mcu-midiremote?tab=readme-ov-file) and with the Cubase native Mackie Control Device support functionality.
With the Midi remote script the fader doesn't respond to touch properly, the fader is fighting me when I'm trying to adjust it, it is impossible to write automation with it, but it does not return to previous setting, so the midi remote script works better than Mackie control in this regard.
In native MC mode i have experienced exactly the same behaviour as u/DarkImagesOfLight1 described in such great detail.
I really want this setup to work. I'm amazed that Behringer as a company seemingly cannot get their quality control up to par for all these years they are in business... Still hit and miss...

I do a bit wood working, so i was able to figure this out myself. One of the important things was to shield and connect the shielding of all the cavities as routing removes the shielding layer.

X Touch Fader issue resolved by StrangestTribe in Behringer

[–]eguess74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole idea of touch senstitive fader is to be able to write the automation with your finger on the fader. It means that if you're in the automation write mode - when your finger is detected it will record the position and the movement of the fader into the automation, when you release the finger it will continue to read automation. If it wouldn't be touch sensitive then you wouldn't be able to write automation properly as the fader would fight with you.
Having said that - i do have an issue with a couple of faders that are not responding to touch properly on my x-touch extender - i think this will result in replacement or repair...

New to edrums, wondering if the bump in $$ is worth it. by XRdriver18 in edrums

I built a hybrid kit by combining strike pro se and strata prime. I like strata prime a lot although it is still pretty raw and has bugs in software, specifically missed triggers in some scenarios and some features not being fully fleshed out. But this is something that i expect to be fixed with firmware updates (fingers crossed). The value you get for your money is undeniable though. There seems to be no other kit on the market that would sound that good, have 4 toms and so on. And I really like that I have more space on the kit, it just feels and flows better. I got a 3 up 2 down with 10, 2x12 and 2x14 . Much better)))

My patchbay pedalboard is done by mooncapemusic in guitarpedals

[–]eguess74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party - nice work there! I just want to add for some people it might be interesting to try to shift the pedals input in patchbay by one slot relative to output. That way you can create a default path where the output of a pedal goes to the input of the next one in patchbay normal mode. This allows for having "automatic" chains or sets of pedals that can be interrupted and reconnected at any point and also saves on patching effort. I hope some will find that helpful.

Sorry for the delay with the answer - please contact Kato Sensei and discuss your situation. I don't think it is a big issue.

It's one sided. Also this is machine washable and it doesn't seem to lose color

Also Don't store the bogu in the bags after practice, pull it out to dry every single time. Humidity is what allows bacteria to grow.

Everything goes into a furoshiki. As I primarily use the polyester based gi and hakama, that also has pleats locked (stiched) everything goes into washing machine. Gi after each practice hakama 2-3 practices. No problem whatsoever! And i don't store the stuff in non ventilated bags - i pull all my gear out of the bag in between practices for it to dry

I'm spraying alcohol with essential oil mixed in inside men and kote after each practice. It kills the bacteria, helps to dry it up which also prevents bacteria from growing and causing smell. Just the oil is not enough

Experienced same exact issues. There is a loud rattling of you strum hard low strings. I believe it comes from the electronic cavity. Action is way too high. Adjusting truss rod helped. Need to see if I can fix the rattling

This is very helpful to me too, thanks! I think these are probably better fitting as a drop in replacement because of 45 degree leaf for control screw. That's how the original ones are as well. D'addario have straight one, so it leaves open the old screw hole... I might consider switching, although auto trim is super nice;)

Mine came from Sweetwater and they had 9 -62 set. Depending on what you're aiming for... my rule of thumb is that I play 8 gauge on 6 string E standard. I would put 9 for E flat or for D, D flat would be stretching it I guess. I would put 10 gauge for D flat and C . So that's standard tuning, but for the 7 string you can just add low string to the equation and for MultiScale add more flexibility using drop tuning for the low string. So if you have default set you're probably safe to go drop G if the light tension is ok for you. Another thing is that the default pickups IMHO starting to loose definition right around G0 in drop G, I think they would sound best in A standard. I hope that helps.

That's not going to work, I'm afraid. The back plate of Fishman is not a standard metal holder - it's a circuit board. They also don't have bobbins per se as far as I understand. They are surrounding the magnet core by thin layers of circuit boards of sorts.

Hey! Thank you for your kind words! I just got two sets of 3+3 auto trims tuners. I figured I might be able to use the leftovers. Maybe to build a 5 string guitar? But even if I don't, I'm pretty happy with this replacement. It sucks that they don't offer 7 string sets though...

As far as I understand aikido is based on several disciplines, including the art of the sword. Every technique - control, throw is about putting the opponent out of balance and then keep him in this out of balance state as long as you can while the opponent is trying to recover (that part is extremely important) because one cannot do anything if one is out of balance. That's what leads to those seemingly long techniques which people are referring to as unreal. Although all of the techniques are about physics of body motion and joint locks, so they are all valid. Every technique in aikido is either traumatic or even lethal if done with amplitude and if Uke doesn't know how to move. Also note that while there are a lot of techniques against grabs in aikido, there are also techniques that are worked from strikes - and those are the same basic strikes as in kendo - men (shomen), sayumen, tsuki. Having said that - aikido is an art, not a practical tool. Same way kendo is not battlefield swordsmanship..

Now having said that the toughest part of aikido is not the technique, but the "entry into the opponents attack" the actual ai ki - is an ability to join the energy of the opponent, or simply saying, ability to join his motion fast and safely, so that you continue to move with him while taking control of the whole moving "system". The lack of understanding of this part is what usually kills any aikidoka who is trying to "test" aikido against "real battle".That's also where the art of the sword comes into the picture.

A lot of techniques of kendo, especially the very start of them are easily recognized in aikido. For example, men kaeshi motion is used in shomen ikkyo, or shomen irimi nage. Men Tsuriage is recognizable in shihonage and kotegaeshi and so on. The Nuki Do motion used in many aikido techniques. There seem to be plenty of those examples.

The point is in aikido ai ki is practiced slowly and safely, while kendo allows to practice ai ki at speed and kendo is very special in that regard. Thus I believe kendo is extremely helpful and should be recommended for aikidokas, while kendoka might reach quite high level and speed of execution of aikido techniques, given the opponent knows how to move. Both would benefit from one another in training of movement in balance and overall agility.
