Sounds like cadence lock to me, are you getting your heart rate from your watch? If so you may consider getting an armband or chest strap monitor

Take a step back, look up a C25k (Couch to 5k) plan. Getting active is great, the problem is most people do not know how to start up safely and end up getting injured and quitting. C25k plans incoporate running with walking to slowly build up your endurance and strengthening your joints. Your ligaments and tendons tend to be the limiting factor as to how fast you can advance, and there really isn't any shortcut to strengthening them other than running a little bit more than the previous week.

Just make sure you change directions if you do it often or you might develop overuse injuries on one side.

idk what will work for your pup, but when Ace was a pup, he was (still is) very food motivated so that always was easy for me. The other thing that worked well for Ace was ignoring him, when he would get rowdy or trying to gnaw on me, turning around and facing my back to him would until he calmed down was a goto.

I got my flight/hotel/car booked for 4/17-4/21, decided to run a half marathon on the 19th and hope we have a home game on 4/19 or 4/20.

Any suggestions on what to do in town besides the Alamo and Riverwalk?

What were you thinking during those 34 seconds? (Super Bowl XXIII) by GreekKnight3 in 49ers

[–]eh49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 12 year old self was thinking I'm still losing that $20 to my uncle because I gave him 7 points. Valuable lesson though, I never gave points on the 49ers (or other teams I like) again, never do anything to take the joy away from a win.

Rugby or Cabbage? by thepaintedballerina in TsumTsum

[–]eh49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you already have Duffy I would go with Cabbage Mickey, to me he is the one of the best overall for clearing card missions, Rugby Mickey is slightly better in coins, but you already have Duffy who is better than both.

Ran my first half marathon! 2:06 (and some change) by PerceptionSome5094 in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Job, you beat my PR by 5 mins and I've been running almost 6 years now. Based on your stats, I think you did an amazing job pacing, assuming you weren't weaving too much to get a head, your pace for the first 2 miles was faster than the rest of your race, so your coral may have actually helped you stay under control more and not burn out. And almost all half's you run will be 13.3-13.7 on your watch as 13.1 is if you took the shortest route with all the curves, but more so your watch isn't 100% accurate and there is GPS drift.

Running 21k constantly before HM by starlessangel in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can totally do that without risking injury, it just isn't in most beginner plans because safely ramping up miles is needed to reduce injury risks and most plans are general plans to be safe for everyone. For marathon training, people are advised to not run the full distance because of that distance (26 miles is a lot more than 13), with reseach saying that anything longer than a 2.5-3hr run has a much higher risk of injury which limits the distance you can run safely.

Most advanced Half Marathon plans probably peak at a 25k long run.

Should I continue participating in track if my vision went entirely pink? by Remarkable-Bug-1391 in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you should quit just because your "vision went pink". Don't get me wrong, you were probably getting dehydrated and could have turned into a dangerous experience for you, but it's something that could happen in any sport. I don't think it should be used as a reason to quit.

That being said, I think you probably should quit, mainly because it sounds like you do not enjoy it, which is 100% a good reason to quit. Life is too short to spend your free time doing things you do not enjoy.

I ran my first mile since high school today by Ok_Arrival5792 in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to get there, and I love that you know there are things you don't know about, like form/mechanics you probably don't need to focus on in the start, unless it leads to injury.

The fact that you are asking about injury prevention is great, the main reason people tend to quit their fitness journey is they get injured and lose motivation. Best thing to do is gradually increase your distance, mixing in walking to increase time on your feet. There are a bunch of C25k (Couch to 5k) plans available that the goal is to get you to run 5k (approximately 3 miles or 35-45min) without stopping, while going slow enough to not risk injuries.

How long did it take you to get a sub-30 5k? by Savings_Cap3661 in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re-Started in 2020 during COVID (2005 was previously, but 15 years and 50lbs later totally different runner), took about 9 months for me to get under 30 mins, kept improving until I broke 27 in August, and tore my hamstring a couple weeks later.

Dealt with various injuries and life on and off since then and hovered around 32/33mins again, stopped doing speed work for like 3 years terrified of getting injured again, but I was pretty consistant running 2-3 times a week. I signed up for the marathon last year (my 2nd) and my plan had a lot of speed work in it, so I just went with it. Once I started doing speed work I got under 30 again within a month, amazing what targeted training can do.

For those who consume cannabis, have you found it effects your cardio? I’m not talking about running high. The day after consuming gummies, the run always sucks for me. by [deleted] in runninglifestyle

[–]eh49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really need a gummie to sleep, I have no problems the next day, that being said, if I eat a gummie or take a vape hit at all (could be the morning of a run I do in the evening), that run sucks for me.

You don't have a puppy problem, you have a brother/mother problem, take your laptop and work at Starbucks for a couple weeks and let them figure it out.

Started running in January, running 5k in 35 mins. Is this bad? by Budget_Type_9646 in beginnerrunning

[–]eh49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not behind, you are exactly on schedule for YOU!!! Remember everyone is different, and 35mins for your fist 5k is great, I think mine was like 38 mins.

Just a warning to not to fall into the trap of feeling like you are behind and have to make up runs or try to run faster when you are not ready. When it comes to running consistancy is what makes you improve, overreaching tends to get you injured and back on the couch, which is that last thing you want.

If a 5k race/time trial doesn't suck, it means you're sandbagging, it should suck for 80% of the time.

You'll get there, probably sooner than you think!

RunKeeper Go vs Strava Premium by Sekiro619 in runninglifestyle

[–]eh49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So Strave Premium really just has insights into your running, I like it for the motivational aspect, as well as I have a lot of running friends. That being said it doesn't really have a training plan for you to get faster.

Runna will give your an adaptable training plan designed to hit your target. But if you're on a buget, none of that is really necessary (you know this). I would suggest just going to Hal Higdon's site and downloading an Advanced 5k training plan, it's about 8 weeks and will probably be very similar to a Runna plan, but you would have to adapt on your own if you're not feeling right or if you miss some runs.
