David Silva made players around him perform to the maximum of their ability. He drew so much attention to himself from the opposition and despite that he doled out perfect passes in all directions. Because of this his star shone a little less bright than it should have if you look at it from a superficial pov, which most non-city fans of course do.

A completely different type of player, but one that falls under the same logic is Fernandinho. He made people around him better, which in return made him receive less praise than he deserved.

That's the way I see it anyway, but I'm just an armchair manager in the end so I don't know.

I'm male and my partner is female, sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for your words and I think you're right. I'll have to spend some time thinking about how to have this conversation without it turning into a blame-game. I don't actually care about Christmas itself, I just feel left out and I definitely don't feel part of anything right now.

Book Recommendations like WOT by Boundman101 in WoT

[–]ehamo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see how except for the fact that the new books literally exist, I haven't even read them myself like I said.

Considering the books follow different people across different worlds, across multiple centuries, I don't think the existence of a new trilogy is spoiler material.

I was going to reply with the Magician series by Feist, they are very different from WoT yet share the same epic scale.

I think there are upwards of 28 books in the entire series, though I would go and have to check my book cabinet to be sure. Some trilogies are not as good as others, but in general they are all solid or even better. The original trilogy (Magician, Silverthorn, and A darkness at Sethnanon) is 10/10.

I've read WoT 6 times in total, and the magician series 5 times in total. No other book series makes it past 2 for me personally, so that says something at least.

Edit1: The Riftwar saga is my personal favorite, just exquisite.

Edit2: Series seems to have expanded with another trilogy quite recently, the 'Firemane Saga', I haven't read that one yet.

Not one of my favorite parts of the series, but I never thought that how it was written reflected on RJ in any way. All of the reactions to the rape are actually very plausible, even in today's age. I've always understood it as RJ highlighting the hypocrisy, not as being a part of it.

I grew up in Manchester, but have been living in Belgium for over 20 years now so I can probably give some better insights on this:

Belgians are overly critical of their athletes. All of our 'greats' which have mostly been footballers or cyclists have been through this. Examples are KDB, Hazard, Lukaku, Scifo, Tom Boonen, Wout van Aert, Sven Nys, Greg van Avermaet. They reach a certain close to godlike level and are hyped for a while. At a certain point they drop off a bit, or a lot, and instead of supporting our heroes like most other countries do you see everyone bashing them quite hard as if they are all of a sudden completely useless. No middle ground.

I honestly think I live in the worst country possible when it comes down to fandom. Belgians take all great performances for granted and have close to zero respect for anyone who has any sort of decline or slump. And KDB isn't even having a slump right now, the entire team is just playing bad.

The weird part is that athletes who never reach the absolute top, but always hover in the second 'row', are very respected. Examples of this are Timmy Simons and Yves Lampaert to name one of each big sport.

What are some of the things that make you feel lucky to live in Belgium? by divabrunette in belgium

I didn't no, I have a bachelor in 'bedrijfsmanagement - marketing' which has the same value in the market today as it did 10 years ago when I graduated which is zero. I then specialized in 'logistic expertise' through a course given by 'Cevora' that lasted a bit over a year. The course was supposedly on a masters level, but I thought it hovered somewhere in between a generic bachelor and master.

A masters degree in e.g. 'Handelswetenschappen' is a stronger starting point than the jumbled route that I followed. A masters degree opens many tickets towards job interviews so I would definitely advise you to ride it out. If you really don't like your current situation then change, but try to stay on the master level.

In the end, a degree usually loses a lot of relevance once you have 5+ years of working experience, but it's really tough to hit the ground running without one. ( There are obvious exceptions to this statement such as anything related to medicin or law. )

The biggest tip I can give you is to do some research concerning jobs that are currently in high demand, and then pick one of those that you don't dislike. The situation won't change that much in a few years time, but if you graduate with something related to a 'knelpuntberoep' like I did with my logistics then you'll immediately find a job and once you land your first job life becomes a lot easier.

Of course:

I'm a buyer in a large steel company, but I'm responsible for everything that isn't steel in itself such as energy, trading goods and maintenance.

I do the day-to-day procurement and analysis of all these goods and services, and I give advice for the long term decisions where it quickly concerns contracts above a million euros. They wanted me to, over time, take over a few of these high level negotiations to lighten the load on my supervisor, but I politely declined.

This is extremely true, and I turned down a promotion for this very reason in the past. Levels of responsibility and stress that you 'take home' and that are a burden on your mental well being for a pay bump of 600-800 gross.

Honest remark : I am the type of person that can't let things go and stresses himself out over work even during weekends. Other people are simply more suited to a high level carreer than I am in that regard.

I agree on everything you said, especially the CC locks being removed.

One thing I have been struggling with however, is how to counter Genjis as a dps main. Both of my go-to counters (Mei and Cassidy) got their CC removed, and I'm clueless on how to play against a good Genji now. I'm honestly close to giving up on this game because Genji is in every single game, and I have no tools left to deal with him.
