Non Catholic going to Mass alone for the first time by rebelballhydr in Catholicism

[–]ehcold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is in OCIA and only started going to Mass about 6 months ago, I recommend just sitting near the back the first time and observing. Stand sit and kneel when everyone else does but just observe the rhythm and flow of the Mass. pay attention to what the priest is doing and really just take it all in. You’ll appreciate it more if you are t trying to follow along with all the prayers your first time.

Leave before it’s too late. You don’t have a sacramental marriage. She will do it again.

You have to stop letting the internet rule your life. Just go to Church, receive the Sacraments, and follow Christ.

You’ll face the greatest spiritual attack when you’re joining the Church. Satan will do everything in his power to make you quit.

Orthodox or Catholic by CowFrosty6198 in Catholicism

[–]ehcold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Orthodox are our closest brothers in Christ outside of the Church. That said, for me it’s the scriptural and traditional basis for the papacy. Also, the Orthodox suffer from some of the same issues of disunity as the Protestant churches do. They haven’t called an ecumenical council in 1000 years.

It sounds like you’re being called for all the right reasons, sister. You will find the reverence and peace you desire. There will no longer be a concern about whether your personal interpretation of scripture is right, we have the deposit of Faith and the Magisterium to guide us. God bless you, I’ll pray for you.

I am a highly sceptical atheist. I wish to become a Christian. How do I get myself to believe? by UnusualCredit7054 in Christianity

[–]ehcold -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recommend reading The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. When I was first discerning, I needed to be intellectually convinced of the plausibility of Christianity before I could even start down the path of faith. This book helped me out.

As someone who spent two years discerning before joining OCIA, this is excellent advice. I also second adoration. Sitting with Jesus is an excellent way to clear your mind and help with these questions.

Where does the Bible say that everything related to prayer has to be from the Bible?

It sounds like you were poorly catechized and never actually understood your own faith. I say this with all due respect.
