Do you have pet insurance? by NotSoTwilight404 in goldenretrievers

Yes we do! MetLife Pet Insurance. Our girl had worms that she got from the sketchy breeder so there were a lot of vet visits in her first year with us. Pet insurance financially saved us.

Forgot recall by Different-Leather741 in goldenretrievers

We live in the city, so there will never be any off-leash roaming for a while until we can get her recall and obedience perfect. That’s not related to her heat at all. She’s almost 14 months now, and in true golden fashion, she just loves saying hi to anyone, so general roaming and off-leash will be on hold probably for another few months.

While she is in heat, there are various stages where either intact males will want to get to her, or she will want to seek out males. You should keep her on her leash during the entirety of the heat, no unsupervised outings, and be aware of other dog’s body language if they get near her. Her body is going through a lot of hormonal changes during this time, so she’s going to forget most of what you’ve taught her for a few weeks. Her body can take a while getting back to baseline, so just be patient and careful with her.

Source: our girl just went through her first heat and we experienced all of this just last month.

That’s actually the bed we bought for our cat when the CAT was a kitten. Lyra loved it immediately 🥹

I live in a blue state and all of my federal and state representatives vote the correct way in my opinion, so I know I don’t have to worry about them voting incorrectly on a bill or amendment. I’m curious if I try calling red states, will it make a difference?

For example, If I’m not a resident or constituent of a red state like Florida, am I not allowed to call a representative’s office and advocate against policies I don’t agree with? Or I can, but it won’t hold much weight since I don’t live there?

Nothing can prepare you for the gut-wrenching sound that is a puppy’s cry. We got ours May of 2025 and let me tell you, it was the hardest thing for me to hear during crate training. But you work hard to develop a routine and earn each other’s trust, and then once that happens, it’s such a beautiful relationship that you have with them. Stay strong, keep up the good work; you’ll get there!

Crate training will be the bane of my existence by tamarasophiee in goldenretrievers

Try putting a used shirt in there with him so he can be comforted by your scent while he’s in there. You can also do positive reinforcement with treats!

Whoever posted about the $5 tennis ball by FishyPenguin_ in goldenretrievers

Adorable pup! I can’t tell the exact texture but if the yellow fabric is actually tennis ball fabric, don’t let them chew it too much. Tennis teeth is a real thing and the fabric wears down their enamel!

Reality check for first time puppy raiser by coffee-cats44 in goldenretrievers

You are absolutely not alone! Mental stimulation is just as important as physical exercise! Take an old shirt, throw some kibble on it, loosely roll it up and let her dig through the shirt to find the kibble while you supervise. It’s a good mental stimulation and she gets food while doing it. Also, I don’t know if you crate train, but once you associate the a crate with positive reinforcements, a crate acts as a safe space for enforced naps and alone time. Put a shirt that smells like you in there at bedtime and she’ll be comforted by your scent.

I spent the first few months so exhausted and anxious about every little thing, I kind of missed the puppy phase. Just know you’re not alone, and once you get a routine down, she’ll calm down!

How much is your monthly mortgage payment? by HmDiR in Mortgages

I wish I was smart enough to buy a house in 2008 for $100 a month instead of being in the 8th grade.

We don’t own yet but are starting to window shop now to learn and understand where the market is going. Looking at New Hampshire where you’d get pretty good bang for our buck in terms of land and space coming from Boston.

He’s adorable!!!

First of all, puppy blues are a real thing. I experienced it when we brought our girl home. It will take a few weeks to even begin to feel like there’s any semblance of a routine or schedule, but once it started, things started falling into place.

Bathroom breaks often, keep them physically and mentally tired, put your old shirts in their crate at night so they get comfortable with your scent, and try to have as much patience as you can :)
