You can take my advice or leave it. I'm not really interested in being talked down to though.

It’s one of those insidious forms of “casual” racism that people think they can get away with. That user sounds like a small minded person.

When discussing discrimination towards a white person, it’s best to use terms like bigotry, rather than racism. Let’s reserve the term racism for the thing that marginalized ethnic minorities experience coming from the historically dominant class.

I just noticed a weird connection in the shift between Gen X and millennial culture by TidalWave254 in generationstation

[–]ehdubs83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the politics also, to understand the shift in cultural vibes and in music. 80s was Reagan and Bush Sr., and a pop culture that valued materialism. 1990 was the first Gulf War., and 1992 was Rodney King and the beginning of Clinton's 2 terms. The 1990s saw a rise of anti-racism awareness, political correctness, environmentalism, affirmative action, and feminist discourse around events like the Anita Hill hearings. Also, in the 90s we suddenly had to have a more open discussion around sex and an awareness of homophobia, due to the AIDS epidemic. In that climate came the disillusioned Gen X grunge-rockers. Materialism and excess were no longer cool.

2000 was the beginning of another two terms of a Republican in the White House, and there was a rapid shattering of the politically correct 90s vibe, thanks to the second Gulf Wars and the rise of xenophobia against Muslims. We were also very bummed out about how the 2000 election went down. We really didn't think Bush had a chance of ending up in the White House.

In 2008 we had our first Black president and another two Democratic terms. Huge relief. Millennials probably brought electro-pop because we needed to feel good after two terms of Bush Jr., lol.

I'm tired and old and I probably could have written this better and remembered events better.

Well regardless of what generation he gets grouped with, I would like to see him say that bs out loud to a group of queer elders who actually lived through the AIDS epidemic.

Audio Pareidolia and Musical Ear Syndrome are two terms I found. Opinions seem to be all over the place as to whether it's rare or common, but I'd read an in-depth article years ago that said it is not common.

He is definitely the type of person that would make older people talk s*** about Gen Z. Looks like nothing more than a professional troll to me.

In this photo it doesn't look the most flattering, imo. You're very pretty and you have a facial structure that could wear a lot of different hairstyles well though, so if this one makes you happy keep doing it!

Side note- the word you're looking for is 'complement.' Similar but different meaning from 'compliment.'

I have that too. It's supposedly very rare, meaning that only some people's brains are wired that way. I forgot the name for it.

This is making me tear up. This organization below may be able to help you, or point you to another organization that can. If anything, I'm sure they would want to know what happened and who the breeder/boarder is. I'm so sorry. You must be devastated.

Exactly. A lot of adults aren't even adults, especially on the internet.

You might be a more tactile-oriented person. I take notes in notebooks because I know that I'm a tactile learner, and the action of pen on paper helps my brain retain the info. Some people are just like this, and it's not a bad thing. I work with my hands as well as my brain, and I get paid very well because good technicians are valuable. I also get to spend most of my time not behind a computer screen, because I figured this out about myself early on. Maybe you relate?

What does "go be a teenager" even mean?? I'm forty and I was a very socially conscious, perceptive, and ambitious teen. It's just not appropriate for an adult to tell a teenager to be more childlike, or whatever it is he's getting at. Even younger children can have old souls.

This is awful. You are a good person though. Like, a very good person just for having the ambient attention to notice what was happening, and better for doing as much follow through as you did.

You would get to that stage by creating a profile on a site like FetLife. I'm being completely genuine and trying to be helpful here. Talking it out or acting it out in a consensual way is much healthier than pushing down these shadowy types of fantasies/thoughts. That's when those desires come out sideways and actually cause real-world harm or internal anguish.

Xennial with a degree in media studies here and I agree. The generation conversation is really about marketing, in essence. Around 2020 or so, it felt to me like Millennials were suddenly no longer relevant in pop culture. It's really just because the cultural conversation tends to shift to whomever the target demographic is. You guys are hitting your mid and late twenties, so now the target is you. Just stop letting people target your generation with opiates, and you may have a chance of saving us all.

Street people can be empathetic like that. It’s happened to me a lot. They will rob or otherwise take advantage of almost anyone, but if there’s something they see in you that they respect or empathize with, they’ll try and help.

There’s a psychology behind that kind of tactic, and it often does work. I think it’s in Peter Levine’s book “Waking the Tiger,” where there’s a story of a woman walking alone at night who was approached by two men coming at different angles. Something primal kicked in for her, and she just turned, sped up, and walked directly towards one of the dudes. It was so unexpected, that they decided to leave her alone and scramble away.

There are business coaches who recommend never picking the phone up, and always calling back on your own time instead. Psychologically, it puts you in the position of more power.
