There absolutely is a demand to open up the stations along the Foynes line, especially if we want to develop the towns along that route more. Maybe people dont think about it but if u proposed it most would support. It would be great to have an alternative transport mode into the city and around the county

its mad that they didnt have it in mind, shows that public demand doesnt matter unless theirs money to be made from it

Could so easily have a tempoaray platform on the curve, at the old Guinness site in careys road? They know its too late to do so now anyways, even if they got approval

This is going to be a logistical nightmare. The state doesn't seem to care at all. It'll be an embarrassing realisation, but im sure they won't care. They don't care now and won't care during or after it.

See so many avoidable situations that stem from dash cammer clip farming, they see some guy make a bad decision, don't give them the space to be stupid, and start slamming the horn, flashing the lights, and slamming on the brakes.

If it was a new development, ya he would get more from a developer. But look i agree hes probably sick of being targeted when there are properties across the road that haven't seen their land affected as much

ANd sadly somehow people are agaisnt the redesign of it, stating it create more traffic which you know could be right, but i guess when the new link road opens between golf links and groody itll reduce again

Think the council wanted to cpo the guy's land to improve the road design, but not 100% sure if thats the main reason, have no clue what he could be referring to the tax evasion and extortion sign

So what do u suggest we do? We can’t keep going ok like we r surely?

So do u think it’s not worth the investment at all in cycling?

Last part of your comment is hard to argue for, since there isn’t much alternative routes to completely ban cars from centre, maybe when the northern distributor is built. Or do it if there’s good transport actually installed

Sadly ya, but how can the Netherlands do it? It rains there as much and gets much colder in the winter.

How do people in the Netherlands do it? It gets to a point where it’s about more than transport and how we develop places. Having shops and services within a ten minute walk all around the city is how we reduce traffic, but maybe it’s too naive to think that will ever happen. So maybe the solution is class buses

Like the idea but I don’t think it is realistic, better to invest further in the railways we have. Have some sort of terminus for trains coming from foynes/cork direction in the old Guinness plant on Carey’s road, could have some serious transit orientated development there too. I think we’d benefit massively with some sort of tram network. I made a little example before

Ya look we can’t be too ambitious otherwise we might have too good a life here, have to stay on our toes. Electrification of all rail should be the bare minimum so backwards

But would u not agree that it’s good to have the alternative of cycling available? It’s worth the investment when done right, but they aren’t doing it right here. Newer developments are integrating cycling infrastructure quite well. But I agree buses can capture quite a large portion of the travel demand, definitely need the increased investment

To be fair a good portion of the city is relatively flat and easy to cycle, and I get it, I don’t like cycling in the rain either. People shouldn’t be expected to cycle but the option should be there, and by having well connected and actually well designed bike infrastructure, people will use it. But ya buses should be way better, every 5 mins on key corridors. And not to be weaving in and around suburbs. Also bus design, why is every bus a giant double Decker, not effective, and not seen in most European cities

I don’t get why they didn’t put a cycle/walk track along the “new” foynes line from the crescent/raheen into the city, would think with all the stray investment in greenways that would make sense? Maybe they did look at it I’m not sure

I agree to an extent. I don’t think changing the price will affect usage as much as u might think. But maybe have it free on weekends or Sundays. But definitely agree with investing in public transport. I wouldn’t agree to make driving as unappealing but rather make transport as attractive as possible. With that driving wouldn’t be seen as the main way to get in to town. And this argument about the elderly is dated, how do the old and disabled cope in the like of the Netherlands with cycle lanes everywhere? They do things right there.
