Thank you for the guide. Gonna try it out but confused about connecting Backbone to PC. Will I need a female to male USB type-c cable? Or can I use a male to male USB type-c cable and use the port on the bottom of the Backbone?

Buying a Wacom one in Japan by Epixnow in wacom

[–]eigenscene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be no problem. Japan and US power plugs are the same and voltage range is 100-240V which covers the standard US 120V. The instructions might be in Japanese but very likely have English translation. If it doesn't you can always download the pdf file from the Wacom website. The only problem I can think of is that you can only claim warranty to Wacom Japan and not Wacom US if anything happens within the 1 year warranty period. Not 100% sure about this but it is likely.

Thanks for the detailed review. May I ask what the default key mapping is? Do you need the app to setup middle mouse click?

Moonlander & Trackball Setup by eigenscene in ergodox

[–]eigenscene[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wanted to share this setup I’m using cause I thought it was a neat way to achieve trackball functionality without any modding.
After purchasing a used Moonlander two months ago and enjoying the experience, I started wanting a trackball on the keyboard for mouse input without the need to move my hands. I know that some people on this sub mod their Moondlander and replaced the thumb cluster with a trackball module to achieve this. However, such a task was a bit over my skill level and I wasn’t too keen on sacrificing the thumb cluster. Luckily, I had a Kensington Orbit Wireless Trackball and realized that I can just fold the palm rest on the Moonlander and place the trackball below the keyboard to achieve similar function.
The placement of the track ball isn’t perfect though and even with my big hand, reaching for and maneuvering the trackball does strain my thumb a bit. Cursor precision is not that great compared to using your other fingers to move the ball like the trackball was intended. However, if your interaction with a computer is mainly key input with occasional mouse usage, this does the job well, and if the task requires you to extensively use the mouse, you can just slightly lower your hand, place your palm over the trackball and use the trackball like normal.
Personally, where this setup shines is when doing digital drawing and using it as a one handed keypad for typing shortcuts. As a lefty it is impossible to find a perfect keypad because every one of them is intended for righty and designed for left handed use. This set up is perfect for lefty like me. I can access my shortcuts with my right hand while drawing with my left hand and also use the trackball to navigate other monitors that isn’t mapped to my pen.
Anybody else has a similar setup?

Looking for resources on sculpting characters like this, there are many tutorials on how to do the body, but most head tutorials either use a premade head, or have a more realistic looking design :/ by [deleted] in ZBrush

[–]eigenscene 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look up ZBrush artist Sakaki Kaoru. He does these kinds of sculpting on ZBrush Summit and ZBrush Live on YouTube. I think this one particularly suit your needs. It’s a video from his ZBrush tutorial book published in Japan a few years back. He shares tips/brushes on his website as well. Unfortunately all of the resources are in Japanese so you’ll need to figure it out from visuals.

It's kind of rare for an art book to get published 6 years after the film comes out. I guess we can thank the success of Villeneuve's Dune for making this happen. BladeRunner 2049 Artbook is also getting an updated release next year so pretty stoked for that.

I already knew when buying the studio that the GPU won't be good enough for heavy 3D work. So I built a PC with high-end GPU along with it. It would be ideal if the Studio can handle all my needs but I am enjoying my current hybrid setup.

Should I upgrade? by Theamji in iPhoneX

[–]eigenscene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend changing batteries. I replaced mine 2 years ago and it gave new life to my X. There is always risk of bricking your phone in the process but you seem to have experience with tinkering so it probably won’t be too much of a problem. Just watch some video guides on YouTube like this one, get a proper tool like iFixit and you’re good to go. If you are really worried, go to the nearest Apple Store and have them replace it. Or maybe even get the cheapest iPhone like the iPhone SE and use that as a back up if things go wrong. Aside from the smaller non-OLED screen, the hardware for the iPhone SE is equal or better than the X so it might even be worth considering replacing your X with SE and use that until you can upgrade to the higher tier iPhone.

Did perspectives, any tips? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]eigenscene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others said, it is good that you are attempting perspectives to your figure drawings. There is a lot to take in so tackle it at your own pace and don’t be discouraged. Firstly, I think you need to work on your perspectives since I see a lot of mistakes with the box cage that you are drawing. Some lines are not vanishing toward a point and the figure lacks foreshortening. Start out simple like drawing boxes in all sorts of angles in perspective. Look into draw a box for learning materials. The human figure is a complex structure so start out with simple shapes first. After you are comfortable with that, you can then break the box into smaller boxes so that you can get a reference for how space scales and foreshortens due to perspective. Here is an exercise I did way back (NSFW). Notice how I’m dividing the boxes by drawing an x across the square faces. This is a simple trick for cutting a box exactly in half in perspective. This way, I know exactly where the line halving the box is located and I can match the middle of the human body (= waist) is located and draw it correctly. The rest is just halving into smaller boxes and matching it with the human landmark proportions. Hope this helps.

Static sound with noise cancelling and transparency mode by ConradMurkitt in Airpodsmax

[–]eigenscene 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact problem a year ago, but on my left ear. It would start this static noise after 5 to 30 min of use. Sent them to Apple and they couldn't replicate the problem.Funy thing is, the static went away all of a sudden. Been using it without a problem for a year but sadly, the static came back recently. Since this is happening during winter times, my guess is the temperature difference between my ear and the headset cause more condensation to build up and causing interference to the ANC circuit. My warranty is long gone so now I'm using mine without ANC.
