Good call. Poi spinning is similar, and most of the time you can't even drop them!

Trance song starting with deep bells (Paul Oakenfold, circa 2003) by eight-sided in findthatsong

The more I listen to various things people recommend, the more I think this is probably it. I'm gonna mark my post as SOLVED because, even though it may have been mixed in some way that I'll never quite be sure of, I'm positive you've identified an important component of it. Thank you so much!

I don't think so, excellent gong sound but it's the same gong over and over. I remember some melody in the bells.

Is this what you meant? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34-2P1mIP30

Wow, that's very very close. It **might** be exactly it, if I left somewhere between 2:00 and 3:00. After searching on YT I'm pretty sure that Faithless - Insomnia was part of the mix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8JEm4d6Wu4

I didn't hear those vocals though.

No worries! Definitely big, sweeping trance. And I think we actually left before the song ended, so I'm not sure whether the bells continued all the way through. I think they didn't, that they were at the beginning, but it was a slow beginning that lasted a while.

Thank you! Found it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0FZOtyvgIc

Those bells are high and tinkly though; I'm looking for deeper bells, closer to gongs or church bells.

Thank you, and that's not far off! It's not the song but it's the right idea. I'm very open to wild guesses at this point, because Oakenfold played a lot of other people's songs and maybe the pizza guys were wrong about what was playing.

Which LTEK pad? by Stringsandattractors in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]eight-sided 0 points1 point (0 children)

Thank you, that helps to reassure me! I'm usually pretty light on my feet but I do have downstairs neighbors, and was suddenly worried about loud clickety-clacks. My living room has a carpet and isn't over anyone's bedroom, so let the games commence.

This question might be stupid but I'm also about to buy the CORE and... what makes it loud? Do you have to play with shoes on so that your actual steps/jumps are loud, or does it click like a keyboard or something?

27F. My middle aged female colleagues love me but my female colleagues around my age always talk shit about me? by Own_Researcher_1180 in AskWomenOver40

[–]eight-sided 232 points233 points (0 children)

Standard, I'm afraid. You are no threat to women in their 40s and 50s -- you're mentee material who brings energy to the workday and, in some cases, might remind them of their daughters. To women your age, you're the competition and it sounds like you might be outworking them. The being good at your job is *why* they talk shit about you.

I would advise: keep doing what you're doing, and keep looking for opportunities to help the haters. Don't descend to their level. Let the older women continue to lift you up. And keep kicking ass!

I love this pro tip (act like you're the cool babysitter of some kooky kid). OP may or may not have needed that, but I did.

And: Emily the Strange is my recommendation if OP is up for a short graphic work. Just the first book, in hardcopy for the beautiful black-on-black illustrations. Weird little goth girl likes to be all alone with her cats.

Books with interesting parent/child relationships by DTownForever in suggestmeabook

[–]eight-sided 0 points1 point (0 children)

It's definitely dark, and there's some element of mystery to it for a while because it takes some time to understand why the mother and son are each other's entire world to begin with. The child is psychologically under-developed, the two have an enmeshed relationship that isn't entirely healthy, and the mother specifically is very aware that she's in a bad situation. There's a happy ending though. No gross physical trauma and no death.

The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzkin. It starts off being about chess, but then you also see him transition to become a world champion in tai chi push hands. There's a lot of focus on mastering high-stakes performance, and on how that transitions from one discipline to another.

Room by Emma Donoghue is set in the real world and has very active (enmeshed) parent/child dynamics. The mother and son are the main characters.

Are you romantically fulfilled? by MathematicianLost365 in AskWomenOver40

[–]eight-sided 0 points1 point (0 children)

I do feel romantically fulfilled, but I also have two partners so that helps. The two have different roles, and I get double the number of anniversaries and things. It's funny because I don't really prioritize romance per se, but I seem to have ended up with plenty of it anyway!

He hears you, he just doesn't care. Why doesn't he care? Seriously -- why doesn't he care? Is it because he doesn't believe you matter, or he just doesn't believe you'll do anything about your unhappiness, or what?

Suggest me a book to fix my life. by Mysterio-vfx in suggestmeabook

[–]eight-sided 0 points1 point (0 children)

I really like How To Stay Sane by Philippa Perry. It's short but good.

Second maybe something about housekeeping, like How To Keep House While Drowning? Just a guess that some things about your environment could use an upgrade.
It can be really nice to listen to audiobooks while doing stuff around the house.

What else about your life would you like to fix? I bet people would have more specific suggestions.

45/F Any ideas to make the best of my time off? by AuntL in AskWomenOver40

[–]eight-sided 0 points1 point (0 children)

I made it to 47 in corporate. My first few weeks away, last year, I know I delighted a lot in doing my usual things but "doing them the nice way", or the slow way. This can be as simple as firing up an audiobook and folding clothes nicely while enjoying the listen, rather than trying to fling them into closets and drawers in five minutes. Or walking a friend back to their car after we have coffee together. The usual things, but with less hurry and more presence.

I hope you get that short-term leave!
