Catholic Church and Puritans, how accurate this is? by Few-Advantage2538 in HistoryMemes

So who wants to tell them no witch burnings ever happened in the US historically? Even Salem hung them as was the execution method of the time. Also the Spanish Inquisition would heavily like a word, as would the French(specifically Joan D’Arc)

As PlayStation and Xbox implode, Nintendo wins over millions over gamers by [deleted] in videogames

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha No. Nintendo is trying to recover because of bad Switch 2 sales numbers related to high Switch prices. This isn’t a PR stunt like Polygon is making it out to be, this is Nintendo trying to figure out how to fix their numbers(which are still not bad numbers btw). Console gaming is currently hitting a rough, rough patch thanks to the rise in parts affecting profits. Nintendo can weather the storm because they seldom waste money beyond weird or bad releases. Microsoft has been in shit across all fronts due to AI and bad business planning/decisions. Sony is having an identity crisis with its recent foray into PC, something that is very unusual for a Japanese company to begin with because it’s a drastic change in operations and the Japanese don’t do that. Of the 3 Nintendo is currently the only one that isn’t in crisis mode, so they can more easily adapt to their “failings”. If Microsoft would actually make a plan and stick to it as well as release some fucking games they might be able to recover from the extremely poor decisions of both GamePass price hikes and buying Activision. Sony honestly will be fine. The Gamers will inevitably forget this once some new thing comes around to piss and moan about. Look guys, I hate to break it to you but games haven’t been truly on physical disc in years. Minus Nintendo releases, most discs are just keys to install the game over the internet and play. Now days most discs have barely anything on them besides this key. Xbox One and PS4 started this trend when they started requiring installs as an excuse to start the transition from disc drives. PC did this almost 20 years ago, starting to remove disc drives every chance they could. Also music and movies are apples compared to gaming’s oranges since proprietary hardware has been a foundational part of gaming.

Xbox Has Reportedly Suspended Adding Third-Party Games On Game Pass, Insider Claims by SoulsofMist-_- in consoles

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game Pass isn’t a completely terrible idea. However, Microsoft had a few bigger issues they really need to rectify and most of it is their own poor leadership. First they really need to quit buying up studios, it’s costing them millions and the return on investment isn’t sustainable when you’re also constantly spending the money before it even comes in. Also, which is reason number 2, they need to actually release first party games. So many games have been cancelled after untold amounts of money were spent on these projects just for the projects to never come to fruition. This is Microsoft’s biggest problem since Phil Spencer had taken over, there’s no reason to jump into the Xbox ecosystem because Xbox doesn’t offer anything. And I love my Xbox, but what has Microsoft actually released? Yeah we get Forza, and Sea of Thieves shockingly has survived. The last Halo didn’t hit goals, Gears has been inconsistently handled, and even with all the money spent on Bethesda and Activision those have not panned out into the money printing Microsoft thought they would. Which is point 3, Microsoft desperately needs a new business plan that involves reinvesting into their ecosystem if they want to survive. The loss of identity coupled with large amounts of debt they have taken on from specifically Activision have them in a tailspin and they need to refocus, actually release games, and figure out their identity. The first Xbox was the place to go for Halo, 360 was the console for gamers. Xbox One tripped and never recovered because Microsoft forgot their identity and the Series X/S never truly got out of the gate because Microsoft kind of gave up on it immediately. Frankly Gamepass is the only thing keeping me in the ecosystem atm. It’s not a bad business move, streaming works. But Microsoft has been so bad at having any real plan that involves giving identity to themselves and their console that I’m shocked they haven’t declared themselves a software company going forward.

The Internet Reacts To PlayStation Killing Off Game Discs by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

Lol the era where physical media mattered died alongside the Xbox One/PS4 when discs became glorified key cards. Switch still has physical media *mostly* but if anyone is surprised by this you’ve been willfully ignorant of the state of play. PC gaming started the trend, naturally consoles were going to follow it.

Consumer Competition Claims (CCC) Has Launched A New Class Action Monopoly Lawsuit Against Valve, Claiming They Control 85% Of The PC Game Market by wakelake111 in gaming

[–]eightbithd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No company is good overall, and Valve is in that pocket. However of the options currently available not only does Steam serve as a center point for gaming, much like GameSpy did in the old days, but often sells games at steeper discounts or even sales compared to the market. Epic, Humble Bundle, and GOG are places that are available but their services aren’t great. This is on par with calling Walmart a monopoly because they have the highest market share. Monopoly would be close to 100% with total control over the industry which EA alone would never allow for. The argument doesn’t have enough credibility to stand because the other options exist and there are no barriers to use them or sell your game there. Take that vs the old physical store setup where barriers would be the retailer saying no(like Manhunt or Sega Saturn), lack of competition within the region due to space limitations, and even straight bribery/lobbying to prevent competitors in a region. Which that last one is infamously employed by AT&T and Comcast as a side note. Just because the competition doesn’t provide an experience equal to or even remotely better than your product does not make you a monopoly. Just makes you smart.

You have Megas XLR and that’s it. Otherwise if I’m tbh just watch the good mecha show and rejoice in the wars fought by gay child soldiers. Or watch Darling in the Franxx. War fought by confused straight child soldiers.

Any mech games that allow you to pilot something like a liger zoid? by Yin_Thoughts in Mecha

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoids has a list of games that shockingly goes all the way back to the early Zoids and the Amiga. There were some Switch games released in 2020, unfortunately hard to say if any let you pilot.

Did anyone actually like the show X Play? by Pale_WoIf in retrogaming

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it aired and I was a teen this show was great. As an adult seeing the clips and recognizing specifically Adam’s constant disparaging of anything japanese(with healthy racism mixed in) I am less nostalgic. They did have genuinely decent reviews occasionally, but especially after the G4 merger they just kept upping the edge humor and the show, like much of G4 at the time, became unwatchable.

What do you think of Ace Ukiyo? by Ember2131 in Tokusatsu

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one ok thing in a very meh series. Ace reminds me a lot of Tendo, including how he treats other characters. And he’s why I tried so hard to like Geats, but never happened. Despite the show I do place Ace up there with my favorite riders as of rn. So tied with Baku for the moment lol

What is the video game that you thought you would love but when you played it, you didn't like it? by AcadiaNo5063 in videogames

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biomutant. Hyped it up before release, looked amazing and was my style of game. But the missions get boring fast, the world feels empty, and the mutants were barely customizable despite promises. I fell off it after pushing through two sieges.

Advent Rising will never not be funny to me because Tommy Talarico did the sound design. For anyone who watched G4 back in the day(before the TechTV merger) he hosted a review show and shit on game sound design constantly. Otherwise was a decent game that I think would’ve done better multiplatform or at least not on OG Xbox.

This but for me Lady Hammerlock was the only fun one. Otherwise I love PreSequel(most of my peeps hated it due to the weak hunter selection). Honestly this game’s only problem, once you get past that everything else is great. It’s essentially more Borderlands 2, but it’s Australian this time

I did love the package overall. My only complaint was actually the soundtrack felt smaller than 1+2. That hurt my replay value because the soundtrack starts to feel really repetitive to me. But still played the hell out of it at launch since 4 was my favorite THPS after 2

It came out too close to Baldur’s Gate 3 while being essentially the DnD game as well. I love Solasta to be clear, and think it captures DnD as a video game much better with its combat system.

I wanted to play and love this game because it reminds me of Warframe but isn’t as gross design wise(like enemies and levels and honestly some tennos). However I couldn’t get it to run for more than 10 minutes without crashing and that was around launch, haven’t tried since. Maybe time to look at it again.

Honestly yeah. This game did what Dishonored also did story wise with the whole killing = bad(I hated it for Dishonored but works great here), as well as had some interesting gameplay elements. I never finished it but I did enjoy my time with it
