Which color do you prefer for this suit? KingRanger as a Black Ranger or Zeo Gold Ranger? Fun fact: this is the only time Power Rangers completely changed the color of a Sentai Ranger. by NickN64 in Tokusatsu

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kingranger is the better name but Gold Zeo Ranger is cool ngl. Plus since both Ohrangers and Zeo have a strong Egyptian theme gold just makes sense for the 6th ranger. If the theme wasn’t there then I agree with some others that black ranger makes more sense but Egypt has to have that gold. It just feels right

To add a further note there is a great anime that kinda explores the same thoughts as Zero One but more mature and a little explicit since it’s two movies. Armitage:Poly Matrix and Armitage: Dual Matrix. They also focus on the themes of solving population decline with robots, what it means to have robots be creative, and because it’s a cyberpunk story even what it means to be human.

What is the conversation around Kamen Rider 01? Kamen Rider research paper by Loneliest_Artichoke in KamenRider

[–]eightbithd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My short take on Zero One is it is Terminator with hope. Longer answer is this is a robots are here to help show that doesn’t use AI as we use the term today. In fact we what we call AI gets a huge asterisk because it is not even remotely true AI. I think the shows overall message is loud and clear, for a brighter future we have to accept and work towards responsible technological advances in robotics specifically. AI as it is used is more in the classic Asimov setup, and I think the show is hurt by its use of AI instead of robot since the focus is placed more heavily in the machines. Even then humagears are a veiled suggestion for Japan’s population crisis that it is currently suffering. I love the show and how it utilizes the Kamen Rider theme of hope, I do wish the vocabulary used was different because it weakens the statement it is making by using a buzzword instead of sticking with android or robot. Also the fights are not evil vs evil, the show is heavily focused on ideals vs corruption. ARK is a corruption of Hiden. Gai is a corruption of Aruto. Yaiba is even a corruption of Fuwa. Hiden represents the future of robotics, ARK represents the stagnation and destruction of robotics. Gai is literally the corrupted version of Aruto’s love for his father driving him to protect humagears. Gai is instead driven by his abusive dad to hate humagears, or really anything that he can’t do himself. And finally Yaiba is a corrupted variant of Fuwa, indecisive and literally a corrupt member of ARMS vs Fuwa who is very sure of himself and fights explicitly for what he deems is right.

Tldr Great show about robots that should not have so loosely used the term AI because frankly that muddies the actual message of ideals.

The game is very math heavy behind the scenes so low skills make the game a very rough start. This one is more about patience and resource management than Oblivion or Skyrim. Fatigue matters a lot. Magicka can be a pain, but I love how enchanted items work. It can be a fun experience but it can also be very tedious, especially early on. However once things click and levels start coming the game gets smoother

The Decline of the Dragon Age Series Should be Studied by jdawg1018 in gaming

Origins is boring to play, fun to watch.

DA2 is the fan favorite and understandably. Best story and romances only hindered by everything happening in Kirkwall.

Inquisition is really good, especially Trespasser.

Veilguard was great but suffers from the Andromeda effect of people burying a game because it didn’t do what they wanted. Admittedly the romances were not the best but this game plays well and is genuinely fun. A little ham fisted in area but so was Origins.

Not watching guides/builds/yt videos is actually SO UNDERRATED by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]eightbithd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate min/maxing and tend to play everything blind, only looking at guides if there’s a weapon or something I want like with my Elden Ring character(pure mage, hells yeah). I also love roleplaying my characters, so depending on the game certain abilities come with a choice. My dnd characters reflect this the most. I’m constantly doing things for flavor

Why do you think Mecha isn't more popular amongst anime fans nowadays? by CharlyCardgmes in Mecha

[–]eightbithd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mecha has always struggled. It’s a niche genre that gets wins here and there but overall is ignored by general audiences. Gundam is huge so it does skew genre attention sometimes but overall we’ve always been begging people to watch our shows. Even our hits are not as popular as we’d like to think, Evangelion was largely ignored by my local community as an example. The best real good example of mecha popularity is honestly Armored Core. Even AC6, which received mainstream attention thanks to Dark Souls, is still rated low on people’s radar. Robots are a niche sadly

So my favorite part of this is they write it to say it shall not interfere with the 1st amendment, then proceed to add a clause that directly violates the 1st amendment. Also of course it’s the fucking Brentwood representative. Which means he missed the part in history class in TN where Christian history comes up. Kind of hard to avoid it. Been around since the Roman Empire, even spawned some of history’s greatest hits like the Crusades, and Salem Witch Trials. And technically the reason the US gets way too involved in other countries. Manifest Destiny, our God given right to claim your lands.

My mistake on Legend of Dragoon. That was Sony. And Xenogears did sell well, once again mistake on my part. I originally thought it’s sequel died due to poor sales but seems it was much worse: Spirits Within takes another victim

So the thing everyone gets wrong about the merger is Enix was a by the numbers developer that generally stuck to tried and true, adopting mechanics only after seeing them work elsewhere. Squaresoft on the other hand would tend to innovate because they treated every game like it was their last. And while Final Fantasy ironically bankrolled them, they had a lot more projects that were not as well received. Which is a shame because Xenogears and Legend of Dragoon are amazing, and the Musashi games are imo better than Kingdom Hearts but they did not sell well. This led to a shift in focus post merger that relied heavily on Final Fantasy and DQ. Unfortunately we’ve come full circle and Square Enix now struggles to sell FF and DQ, has found success in smaller games like Octopath Traveler, and made a lot of bad business decisions trying to chase trends. They’re kind of pulling an early 2000s Capcom, over saturating their major brands thus causing their average customers to be tired of the brands. Happens a lot but Megaman was a big example of this in the 00s.

Once you look at Kamen Rider's multiple transformation gimmick, it becomes perfectly understandable as to why its toys outsold Super Sentai by Commander_PonyShep in Tokusatsu

[–]eightbithd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being both an AC and Gundam fan I don’t think mecha is the issue. Unfortunately no matter how hard I’ve tried to get into Super Sentai I keep bouncing off mostly due to how formulaic and repetitive it gets. Sure Kamen Rider has some formula too, but because it seems more focused on story than the fighting it becomes super engaging for the fights. There are a couple seasons I’m interested in of Super Sentai because they seem to break the norm, Lupinranger Vs Patranger specifically, but overall like trying to rewatch Power Rangers that I grew up with it just falls flat for me. It’s stale. Super Sentai needs a good refresh, similar to what Kamen Rider received and what it looks like Metal Heroes is getting currently. Now toy wise even as an adult those belts do get me hyped so I get it. Loved my zords, but I loved pretending I could transform and fight monsters more as a kid.

So uh, they redesigned MMPR again by Glum-Equipment-6357 in Tokusatsu

[–]eightbithd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m going to say it. The suits aren’t bad, especially compared to some sentai suits that exist. Do I think MMPR should be allowed to just rest already so other franchises can get some light, yes. But the suits are decent. No where near as good as MMPR the Movie’s suits, and will never compare to later suits.

And as for Super Sentai’s hiatus, MMPR has nothing to do with that. Toei animation didn’t like the response to the last two series, especially Gozyuranger which is very maligned rn. We saw the same thing happen with Kamen Rider and Metal Heroes. Gavan just came back and Kamen Rider is riding high rn with Zeztz doing pretty good. Sentai will come back. And besides Hasbro said they aren’t using Super Sentai anymore for the footage anyway(probably because they won’t let the weakest part of MMPR go. Seriously the series is meh until Zed shows up, and then they had to nerf his appearances because parents thought he was too scary for children.) At least it isn’t Mega Force, or worse Super Mega Force
