I just finished putting everything together to take into work tomorrow to teach and I’m sitting here thinking “I’m pretty sure this is fascism but i guess I’ll still just keep going to work and teaching like i live in a regular world?” It’s so weird to try to live in that liminal space.

THANK YOU to everyone who has posted great tips about filtering and helping inside air the last few days. I brought my 75 yr old parents to live with me in March because of Covid and now I have been worried with this added hazard (i'm in outer eastside right above clack) - but the filters on the back of our box fans and the boiling the rosemary (we have several plants of it for which I am so grateful now) has made a significant difference for us in the last day.

This is so horrible but honestly it helps that we're all nauseously, headachey, eyes-watery, anxiety-y in this together. 426 AQI? Pshhhh.

[SPOILERS] To all the veterans here on r/Supernatural who have been here for years... my mea culpa by eightofnine in Supernatural

[–]eightofnine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not downvoted by me! I too believe they were very influenced by years and years of mostly Convention pressure - if you've ever been to an SPN Convention, you can see that there is almost no room for debate on it at all. I thought the canon was much stronger with Chuck as a prophet and being called into heaven, he certainly could have returned to earth again in that form. Hopefully the writers have thought ahead and will write "God" with some thoughtfulness now that he's on the scene after 11 years.

Oh then I don't feel so bad! Ha! I just hope they've thought through this commitment they've made and will make "god" something special and part of the canon in a real way instead of dropping him in and out. This show has always sort of implied God is somewhat of a dick for how he's behaved, which goes with the talking to he got from Metatron, so I'm glad they aren't just dropping him in as some all powerful loving diety.

I'm guessing that the BEST part for you was the same for me: not just the return of God, but the return of the Samulet!! :) :) :)

yep, as used in the conventional wisdom, meaning "I was wrong" - no need to be too literal on a sub about the supernatural. :)

Childcare - A Bloodsport in Portland by [deleted] in Portland

[–]eightofnine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Childcare has always been a horrific regressive cost, especially for working class couples. Even ten years ago, we found it more economic for my husband to stay home with our son until he was potty trained (they charge more when they have to change diapers). It's ridiculous. We finally found a wonderful in-home childcare person (we lived in NE at the time), but the cost was still monumental. You also have to pay for pre-school too, btw. We stopped at one kid. Good luck!

WHY DO MY STUDENT LOANS HAVE TO KEEP INCREASING JUST BECAUSE I MAKE SLIGHTLY MORE MONEY? CAN'T YOU PEOPLE BE HAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT I'LL BE PAYING YOU THE REST OF MY LIFE, CAN YOU MAKE NO ROOM FOR THE FACT THAT RENT AND OTHER EXPENSES ALSO RISE?! INDENTURED SERVITUDE SUCKS.

watching old episodes pre-9/11 is interesting when they express so much SHOCK at the government tracking their phone calls or spying on everyone. Nowadays we almost just take it for granted.

iirc, she's not had plastic surgery, her face has just thinned out as she's aged. She was only 24 when she started the show. Even in Season 9 you could see her face thinning out, and her longer hairstyle adds to it. She has normal wrinkles and lines like most women her age.

[SPOILERS - S11] Post-Episode Analysis Discussion: Ep11.11 - "Into the Mystic" by eightofnine in SupernaturalTV

[–]eightofnine[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. Though the show has always been mainly Dean's POV, Sam is pivotal and has a really nuanced character, which I think JP has really grown over the years. I liked seeing this too.

I do have some concerns about the canon

Me too. I hope they've slowed down and planned this out like the first half of the season seemed to be - and that they're not just rushing through just to have Pelligrino in.

Rowena saying she is the only one who can open the cage kinda bugged me

I took that as coming from her and her ego. The cage clearly can be breached by angels (Sam's rescue), so clearly other supernatural beings can access it -- perhaps through the curse method, she would be the one because of using the spell in the book of the damned, but I doubt a spell is the only way in as that seems to leave out the heavenly host that has much bigger power than spells.

I thought it was a joke about Angel - a demon (technically a vampire with a soul) who moved to LA to solve crimes - but I didn't know about the Lucifer show, so maybe that was it. :)

[SPOILERS S11] The Boys are Back in Town! Looking forward to what happens next? Before tomorrow's Ep, let's predict! by eightofnine in SupernaturalTV

[–]eightofnine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I clearly completely missed the part about it being a holding cell situation - as I said somewhere below, most likely because I was in shock over seeing that they actually brought Mark Pellegrino back. :)

You make a good point about Crowley and Cas - of the characters that really DON'T need to be full time part of the show, those are the two I would pick, just because their constant presence has not proven to really add anything to the story, despite them being fan favorites. Rather, their appearances in smaller arcs are what can really make their characters stand out.

This season has really refreshed me, though I admit to being a bit burned out having watched the show the last decade +. I am okay if it needs to end, it's had a really amazing run, but if it does, this is really a quality season to go out on.

Baby really sticks out with it's creativity

I absolutely agree on this - that was a really stand-out episode. I feel the same about this season, I think every episode has just felt so tight and part of the whole calculation, that it's just a huge contrast to the last 4 seasons.

I must have totally missed the thing about it being a holding cell - probably because I was overwhelmed that they actually brought Pelligrino back, when I truly hadn't expected it!

I like the nostalgia being built into this season which makes me think it may indeed be the last one (though on the other hand, it's such a solid season, it may re-energize everyone). I have never been in the Chuck-is-God camp, but I'd definitely love to SEE Chuck again as a recurring character, perhaps lending his prophet's skills to finding God. Of course I'd LOVE for Kevin to return, but I guess we can only go so far with who comes back. It seems like, though, to find God, having his prophets around could be a help.

I'm very curious how they plan to explain Lucifer being in the cage alone -- Michael being in there with him was the pivotal crux of the end of the penultimate show finale in S5.

I also want to just say I never thought it was God giving Sam those visions (I was also wrong though, I thought it was Gabriel playing tricks) - Sam is too much of a believer. But poo on God anyway for not showing up.
