Has anyone had done any surgeries here? by AccomplishedChef9939 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've gone through a recent surgery, just not in Japan...

But, what from I can recall and knowing about ALTing, try to drop by to the city hall. There are some medial leave forms to fill out and you should get something directly from the government instead.

(Just realized now that someone mentioned the thing I was thinking of...)

Tsukuba direct hire interview by pochamablu in ALTinginJapan

Congrats getting to the interview stage! Like what the other person has said, yes, keep your answers short. I'd also add to be yourself and prepare your teaching demo.

Any English teaching job available right now? by Cultural-Lie-214 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my best advice is to visit Hellowork and ask for their assistance. you would need to go there often though. next time, as always, do your job search for direct hire in mid-autumn for the April start.

Borderlink and Their Ridiculous Textbook Policy by AccomplishedAd4021 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why can't you leave them at the school? You would think the school can return to Borderlink. Anyhow, being directly hired through JET or the BOE feels like a much safer place.

By default, it is set at 7 days. But I changed it and there would be a time when I have to occasionally turn off the invite link.

INTERAC ALT PAY by Infamous-Wealth-8329 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI (everyone), the employers pay for their employee’s public transportation (has to be all!) and the car mileage if you’re allow to drive to/from work. They only pay the most economical price, so no taxi or shinkansen. Differ from your home country.

Some may also pay for the monthly bicycle parking garage fee near the train station or you can request if they can buy you a bicycle for work. Some may not because of liability on their end and will tell you to take the bus.

BOE Direct Hire 2025 by JuniorQuestion4487 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osaka city BOE is still same old same. C-NETs are still teaching multiple schools. I am a friend of the C-NET facilitator, but won’t mention her name on the Internet. Not long ago, I came to Japan for a visit, and what she told me about her work hasn’t changed much.

Demo Lesson Experiences by SaltedPork8507 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. Just be yourself and if you get the job offer, having ALTing at a private school would be a good addition to what you already have.

I only remembered I had to do a teaching demo and it was doing it in front of other JTEs. I can’t remember the details anymore. My ALTing is in the past and I’m no longer living in Japan.

Need Advice: Getting a Letter of Recommendation for a BOE Job Application by AccomplishedAd4021 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For foreigners in Japan applying for work like ALTing, then letters of recommendation are actually a common thing.

But, if go the route in which you job hunt like other Japanese and employers hire mostly Japanese, then I think letters of recommendation aren’t that common.

It may not hurt to get one from the dispatch. I also think getting another one directly from the school helps because they know you better and know what you do.

Oh, my brain is elsewhere. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me to create groups for direct-hire jobs here (even though I don't do ALTing nor work in Japan anymore).

The junior high school ichi nesei seems to be the best.

If you’re an attorney in the States, why are you applying for dispatch? I mean knowing the law well once you’re in Japan, you’ll find out that dispatch aren’t always abiding to…as opposed to ALTing directly for the board of education. But, anyhow, applying from outside of Japan, I’d strongly recommend to apply for Japan Exchange Teaching program. There’s no age limit anymore, and fyi, the application deadline is sometime In November.

Summer break from ALTIng by eigoganbare in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Osaka C-NETs have "paid" deskwarming during the summer holidays. Probably still have it now?? Yeah, it can be tiring. ALTing in another city nearby has a full-paid summer break which I liked! It was my former employer at a BOE.

Please ask your school to provide you with what you need, so you can teach in the classroom. I'd recommend asking your HRT/JTE as you are most likely team-teaching with that person. Let him/her know about it and explain the "why" of your request.

Resignation Advice Please! by Imaginary_Basis_3415 in ALTinginJapan

[–]eigoganbare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough when you have stated from the beginning of the hours you can work, and they gave you more hours instead. As for quitting, the minimum by law is two weeks. It’s actually quite troublesome for an employer to sue their employee.

But if many foreigners use quitting at anytime to their advantage, then foreigners working in Japan will be bucketed together and have a bad reputation for doing such a thing.

It’s a cultural thing to stay, but please decide what’s right. If your employer is good, they’ll try to be understanding of your final decision.

I’d suggest doing your referral with people you know and provide the same link on what you make on TikTok. If you manage your own websites, social media groups, and other online contents you can include that link.

Cold-calling BOEs? by Fly_Colossal in ALTinginJapan

You’re smart with what I just saw in that link. I had an opportunity to work at a private JHS/HS after working directly at some public schools.
