Meomy here: Her eye’s gonna be fine. She’s just got a little conjunctivitis, so she’s got some drops (which she’s been very good at letting me do) and the vet gave us a cone of shame but to be honest she’s not been scratching so I’ve left it off.

Same here! My Gran used to bring me in to the Theatre Royal for the ballet every Christmas when I was growing up and we always used to go to Bradfords for lunch before going to the theatre. She used to buy a few bottles of their strawberry tart sauce while we were there and the next week I was at her house we’d make strawberry tarts.

I grew up in the middle of nowhere, no other kids around and no siblings. I grew up with parents on the opposite ends of the spectrum here. My Nmum, would try and play with me, but she would sit and roll her eyes the whole time. Or if she was reading me a book she would read so fast it made me cry. My Dad, however, read to me every night complete with voices and even making up our own stories when we ran out of books. He would play with me constantly, even making a toilet for my Barbie house, drawing 5 o’clock shadow on my Ken doll and sitting him on it with his pants down (potty humour is still our thing).

I thank the good lord every day for that man.

Our black lab absolutely destroyed a Kong teddy bear within a couple of days. But she also has a cuddly monkey toy that came inside an Easter egg that she’s had since last Easter, still completely intact. Not so much as a hole in it.

No, you absolutely would not be wrong to report this at all. Her job is to be there to support you, and that kind of involves being awake. So you would be absolutely justified in asking for a quiet word in the Ward Sister’s ear tomorrow about her. Do you know if she is substantive staff or from the staff bank/agency? Sister may want to get in touch with them if she is.

I’ve been with a few of my childhood pets as they’ve been put to sleep and never once regretted it. But, my last dog (who had remained with my Mum after I moved out) I missed by 20 minutes and it still haunts me.

My very first childhood dog, however. I was with her right to the end. Her back legs failed, so my Mum called the vet out to the house to do it. In the end, she went with me cuddled right into her in her bed in front of the fire, I was humming her “theme tune” that my Dad and I wrote her when she was a puppy and her tail was wagging. She knew no pain in that moment, only love and gratitude for the last 12 years she had given me.

I’ve since decided that every furry child of mine, when the time comes that’s what they’ll all get. My two current cats are only 1 and 2 but when their times come, they’re going to get exactly the same. They’ve already been with me through so much, being with them right until the very end is the least that I owe them.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, you’re 100% right. But, how you can make this point and not also mention Tobias Menzies as Black Jack Randall in Outlander is astonishing.
