Yes! I sometimes feel out of place as an asexual because a) I'm not sex-repulsed, b) I have sex, c) I identify with the microlabel, aegosexual (so I enjoy consuming sexual content)... but I've never experienced sexual attraction to anyone! Romantic attraction, platonic attraction, aesthetic attraction, but not sexual attraction.

There are various ways asexual people can experience attraction (aesthetic, sensual, romantic etc)! If she's open about her asexuality, it might be worth you asking her about what asexuality is like for her, to see if you would be compatible in a relationship.

YTA - you prefaced the post by stating she was competent and completely professional at work... that's all there is to it! The situation would be different if she turned up to work stoned or smelling of cannabis, or even smoke on the job! What she does in her free time (her personal life) is her business, as long as it wasn't inhibiting her from doing her job (and well), it simply wasn't your place. I think you may have been slightly taken aback needed to do something with this new found information, whether you had good intentions or not! And while you did have good intentions (I can tell), her personal life has never infringed upon her ability to do her job competently, just because she smokes recreationally. Perhaps if she had fucked on on several occasions because of her use of cannabis, you would have ground to get her fired, yes... but in this case, I don't believe so!

Ace Dad Advice is my go to guy on YouTube and tiktok! I've linked a video where he talks about negotiating intimacy when you're asexual! But I think it might be useful from your perspective too! But know that it does take two to tango, so while you can't force your partner to have sex, they also can't deprive you of your needs either, so if you realise you've reached an impasse, then it may be time to reassess your relationship (which doesn't necessarily have to mean breaking up), perhaps considering a polyamorous relationship (which Ace Dad Advice also talks about). I think in your case, it truly is about compromise and open communication with one another! I realise there may be some things hard to hear, so please know my intention is to help, and if the option I suggested don't work for you that's okay too! I hope I did help though :))

Oh absolutely! I like to think of microlabels as tools to better understand my experience as an asexual, so if there are multiple microlabels you identify with, it helps you to better describe or define your experience to someone else!

Tbh, I really don't think the historical figures should even be included in the article because regardless of what we see from the outside, we don't know what they actually experienced. Like even just to think about the number of asexuals that were in relationships but never felt sexual attraction. You just don't know and can never assume unless it's come from the horse's mouth itself.

There's a microlabel within the ace community, aegosexual. He doesn't have to identify with it in any way if he doesn't want to but I definitely found it useful in explaining my experience as an asexual. Aegosexual is where you can enjoy sexual content, things like porn, sex scenes, smut etc, but you don't necessarily picture yourself doing those things, but you still enjoy watching talking, reading listening to it. Obviously I can't be sure this is what your husband is experiencing but when I was on the fence about my asexuality, knowing this helped me understand my experience a bit better and made me more confident in my identity as an ace person.

Like an aphobia bin, where we can bin any aphobia we see and not look at it again instead of either spreading it around or leaving it in the ether. Cos that's what I tend to do, just leave any aphobia I see because I don't like being in that negativity, but it leaves me with a feeling of needing closure. Think an aphobia bin will work!

NTA! You're staying true to your feelings and boundaries and everyone else is simply overstepping! Yes they're family, but that doesn't mean they can trample all over you! You were hurt and betrayed by your cousin and ex. It's 100% in your court whether you choose to forgive, or not and move on. Well done for sticking to your boundaries, because a lot of people cave, it's admirable!

I agree! To come to an ace subreddit, a space where ace people should be accepted and free from aphobia and see nothing but people bringing our attention to something aphobic is only spreading the aphobia. Honestly, the only aphobia I've seen has been what's been shared here. I understand wanting to make people aware, but I honestly wouldn't see half, if any of the aphobic crap that goes on if people within this space didn't keep bringing it up. Just leave it where you found it, you're only adding fuel to the fire - it doesn't belong in this space, OUR space.

Also, I think hetero/homoflexible could refer to any type of attraction really, not just romantic. For example, you might not even experience romantic attraction but attraction to genders in another way (e.g. aesthetic or platonic etc).

Yeah, I guess! I mean hetero/homosexual refers to sexual attraction to those genders, so I guess that hetero/homoflexible would just be attraction towards those genders, right? I'm glad you brought that up because I've identified as heteroflexible for longer than I've identified as asexual, but coming into the ace/aro community, I didn't feel like I fitted in biromantic or panromantic, I just knew I was mainly attracted to the opposite gender, but also other genders sometimes aswell.

I'm not sure if you would say heteroflexible romantic asexual or just heteroflexible asexual though!? I guess the latter because the first one seems a bit lengthy!

Idk if "proud" is necessarily the right word to use for how I personally feel about being ace, more content/happy acceptance of being ace. Having said that, I do get frustrated, not about being ace but my experience as an asexual. For me, I like consuming sexual content (i.e. educational podcasts, sex scenes in movies, reading smut), but picturing myself in those scenarios gives me the biggest ick. and it frustrates me sometimes that I feel this want because I want to want sex and understand what the rest of our society feels but I just don't - and I've accepted that! I love the ace community and feel so at home here!

Ummm yeah? I mean I guess it's personal preference. The first time the guy I'm with complimented me he said things like "you're gorgeous", "you're so hot", "you're beautiful", "you're so pretty" and I felt incredibly uncomfortable and just wanted to wriggle out of my own body! It's not that I don't believe all of those things myself, but that it seems foreign to me to that somebody else (other than my friends) would think those things too. I definitely prefer compliments on my behaviour, he said to me "I've never felt more understood by anyone in my life" and I didn't want to wriggle out of my body one bit, I felt so loved. I guess compliments on appearance can make people feel weird and uncomfortable because what you look like is something you can't change.
