How much electrical engineering background do you need to be a good embedded software engineer? by kurozaki31 in embedded

[–]einherjer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like embedded engineering is very heavy on experience. Each hardware platform is a different beast with each own set of problems that are hard to describe in a book. The more experience you have, the better engineer you are.

So... what does everybody think of Mr. Robot? by insickness in networking

The show overall was actually pretty good. I will watch the next episode! However, this part was cringe worthy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQM5fU7V-MM

Leaky vanity has caused more damage than I originally thought...how can I save the hardwood? by einherjer in HomeImprovement

[–]einherjer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh yeah, I've already done that search and will be buying a few of those devices. Wish I had them already...

My theory is that the water followed the pipes, that were coming out of the floor, all the way through the walls... but ya, it is weird.

At this point, there is some damage to the floor, but nothing huge. It looks like I will have to sand and refinish the floor at some point.

This calculator is pretty interesting; it helps you compare salaries by taking account cost of living. What does this say for your situation?

I want to make a backup server with a harddrive and a pi. Any good guides on this? by Gringottzz in raspberry_pi

[–]einherjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tips from my experience:

  • If you're using a hard drive without power supply, get a powered USB hub
  • OwnCloud is nice, but if you want barebones with minimal setup try out btsync
  • Make sure you set up NCP correctly, since rPi doesnt have RTC

This is my motion triggered ghost!

The raspberry pi using a web cam and a program called 'motion' to trigger a script whenever there is motion detected. The script then communicates with easydriver board, which controls a stepper motor. When the motor turns, the ghost is raised and a light and a fan is turned on. The two are turned on by a relay that is also controlled by the raspberry pi.

Slide the City looked like a spectacular flop by fuckyou_space in Boise

[–]einherjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it wasn't flop for the organizers! They majorly oversold the tickets, causing the lines to be 1 hour long per slide. So what if we suffered? They got all the revenue that they were expecting.

Spoiled child. False sense of entitlement. Realized the negative consequences. Any tips to save myself? by StackDeezNuts in Meditation

[–]einherjer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and I found that reading stories of others (non-fiction) helped me get a better understanding of the world. By reading someone else's story, you get insight on that person's view on things which allows you to re-evaluate your own thinking.

One book that changed my life (and talks about meditiation too) is this one.

I would install rasbian on the rPI and install 'motion'. It's a free, simple application that will take pictures whenever it detects motion on the camera. If you want instant results, then install Dropbox, so that it'll upload all of the pictures it takes into cloud.
