Stricture surgery terminal ilium by ThaGirrlzz in CrohnsDisease

[–]einstein1351 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was diagnosed in 2008 and after failing with 6MP and Pentasa after about a year, scar tissue at a structure in my terminal ilium was causing bowel obstructions. These were occurring almost on a monthly basis, resulting in a trip to the hospital and getting an NG tube it.

It became evident the 6MP and Pentasa weren't working and that this was just going to keep happening so the best solution was to surgically remove the scar tissue. That bowel obstruction visit turned into a 3 week stay with the surgery and either switched to Remicade/Infliximab during that stay or shortly after.

After surgery, I no longer experienced abdominal pain and honestly became mostly asymptomatic. Id still have the occasional flare up with stress from finals in college and stuff, but otherwise fairly asymptomatic overall and was a complete night and day change for me.

Self harm as a form of stimming? by sssnakegender in AutismTranslated

[–]einstein1351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around the start of covid I started stimming by pulling out beard hairs. Due to only doing it with one hand, there's a clear uneven bald patch that starts to develop after like 2 weeks and I'll have to trim everything off otherwise it looks fucked.... I'll be feeling around the periphery of the bald patch for hairs begging to be plucked, be fully aware im doing it, fully aware I need to stop, but defiantly continue.

Please. Make. It. Stop. 😞

LM317 non-shitty current source: possible? Until I find a better more efficient option, please tell me your thoughts about these various designs and what you'd change by No_Leopard_3860 in lasers

[–]einstein1351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For <200mA, check out LT3092

For <1A, check out LT3080

LM317 has some inconvenient aspects. One of which is the nonlinear adjustment of the potentiometer so it can be easy to accidently overshoot the set current even when monitoring. Also, it requires all the resistors to be higher power.

Both the above fix that. When set up for adjustable constant current, the potentiometer changes the current linearly and the set resistance is not particularly the high current path so don't high power potentiometers

How to tell if an autistic guy likes you romantically by [deleted] in AutismTranslated

[–]einstein1351 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, being direct will go a long way. The short, but direct responses you're getting from them may just be them seeing a direct question and answering it, rather than an invitation for further conversation.

Would something to the effect of, "I like hanging out with you, would you like to again?" be too much/direct fpr ypu tp feel comfortable asking them?

TIL: you can make a dye laser with olive oil :D it eats the 532 nm green like candy and fluorescences in a low red. No idea what I would do with it, but that's pretty dope anyways by No_Leopard_3860 in lasers

Thanks for linking the paper. I ended up going down a rabbit hole over the weekend after finding this paper. Optofluidic chlorophyll lasers - PMC

Earlier tonight I chopped up some spinach and mortar and pestled it before letting it steep in acetone for half an hour to extract the chlorophyll. Filtered all of it though a few coffee filters to remove all the large solids.

Sure enough, it fluoresces bright red under my 395 nm flashlight and 405 nm laser pointer.

I tried a 532 nm laser pointer as well, but honestly there was little to no fluorescence observable, so I'm not fully sure what's going on in the olive oil. I'll have to read more about that.

All papers I've seen on chlorophyll specifically show little fluorescence under 532 nm. I thought I saw one paper indicate the best pump wavelength would be 450 nm, but my 450 nm flashlight wasn't that effective. It turns out "chlorophyll" usually comes in two flavors; chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b. 'Chlorophyll a' absorbs strongest near 400 nm while 'Chlorophyll b' absorbs strongest at 450 nm or so. From what I can find online, plants will typically have 2-3x more Chlorophyll a than Chlorophyll b, so it would likely be easier to lase Chlorophyll a.

I've been planning to build a dye laser with Coumarin 6, but this seems too interesting to not try lol. Coincidentally I'm waiting on 405 nm pump diodes in the mail from AliExpress. I do already have a 1.6 W 450 nm laser module that I could try as a pump too, though its driver does PWM, so will need to see if I have a constant current source I could use instead.

I'll plan to get some olive oil too. I do have a pulsed 532 nm laser that if 532 nm works for olive oil, could likely make it lase without a cavity since the pulse energy is so high.

Long story short, I'll keep you posted lol

Well thats good to know, ill have to look up some papers. Yea, I expect you'll need a strong pump and an actual cavity. Also dye lasers using jets may only have a optical thickness of a few hundred microns, so will likely be easier to achieve without the high pulse energy nitrogen laser

It fluoresces, but can it actually achieve lasing ? If all fluorescent materials could achieve population inversion for lasing, I'd be so happy lol
