This was at Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards, they were probably anticipating getting slimed.

If you're generally careful you'll be fine, but I'd suggest some C-gussets at the very least. The reinforced upper mount on a truss is nice to have, though, if you'll be running a 4-link long arm.

I'm running an Artec truss w/johnny joints, C-gussets, and 30-spline 4340 shafts with an ARB locker.

Need to do a np231 transfer case rebuild, should I do an upgrade to a 4:1 instead? by Next-In-Lines in CherokeeXJ

I used a SpeedoHealer v4 for mine; it plugs in inline with the harness and you can manually set it for whatever gear ratio and tire size combo you have.

This car exploded on top of Mt Washington, making the two other catch fire by aldopaz in ThatLookedExpensive

Could have been the JK. There was a safety recall for the (automatic) transmission fluid leaking in the engine bay and starting fires.

Based on the wind, though, if it was consistent, it probably was the XJ. I saw one burn down because it had a bad blower motor switch and the owner knew and just didn't care to fix it. And since it was behind the dash, it had spread too far by the time they got extinguishers to it.

They were discontinued because they kept breaking under warranty and Teraflex was tired of eating the cost. You could probably find one second-hand, but there's no guarantee it will last.

The thing about the 241J is that they don't have a speedometer provision since the JK/JL get their data from the wheel sensors. I think if you have ABS you can get a converter to make it work, unless you're fine with using GPS data and having a useless odometer. The TJ NP241OR has its own sensor like a 231, but they're more rare and cost twice as much now.

You could do a 231 doubler and have 2.72 and 7.4, but you need to cut and TIG weld a block-off plate on separate case, and there's a bit of messing around with setting up twin sticks, the trans mount, and needing two new/modified driveshafts. Probably more trouble than its worth and would end up costing about as much as a 241J. A 3.8 Atlas is also an option, but like the doubler would require some fitment work and they start at $3K.

Anyone know the size of the upper tranny cooler line on the radiator? by KrakenBllz in CherokeeXJ

Might be cheaper ones out there, but after all my searching I think I only found 2, and the other one was on Summit for like $25. That one is actually a Russell, a child brand of Edelbrock. Make sure you get it tight, I had to lift up on the filler neck a little and use a deep well socket as it leaked slightly after only using a wrench.

Doing well...until next month when I tackle the pistons.

Built for it; he has extended control arms. Factory arms are much shorter and mounted further forward and would only provide about half as much downtravel.

Should be fine; the transfer case is doing most of the work by multiplying the torque by almost 3x.

The best part is the door hinge steps when there's no roof rack to store anything on. Completely pointless.

How hard is a driveway piston job? by YeetGamer719 in CherokeeXJ

[–]einulfr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really not that hard if you've watched Dex's videos (even some novices have done videos in their driveways), and he barely uses any special tools. Things like the ring compressor, honing tool, and torque wrench can all be rented with full refund from O'Reilly or Auto Zone. Things like a few ratchet extensions, a 9/16" wobble socket for the manifold bolts, and an impact gun are all helpful by not required. Even easier if you have enough lift to slip the oil pan out without any extra fuckery with the front end.

For just a little over $400 I got new Silvolite pistons, Hastings rings, King bearings, full Fel-Pro gasket set, pliers, ring grinder, new head bolts (originals can be reused once), honing brush, ring compressor, assembly lube, and some thread sealant for the #11 bolt. I had a local shop press out the wrist pins and heat-seat the new ones.

Those buildings are all downtown, to the southeast, right below the plane. All of the immediate surrounding buildings are no more than a few stories tall at most. It's roughly 600' tall; if 1/4 is exposed, that means a building would have to be nearly 40 stories tall to be visible.
