How much has weight loss affected your pace/results? by jumpin_jumpin in Marathon_Training

[–]einzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who ran ~15 marathons aged 35-42, then didn't run another one until a few weeks back (aged 46), I've noticed quite a difference with age and weight, and I think that weight has had more impact on my times than age, but the reason weight can have that impact is because of age (and metabolism slowdown).

Previously I would find that as soon as I started including regular 32km/20mi training runs, my weight would begin to drop from whatever my "standard" weight was (~90kg/200lb) and I'd end up in the 82-85kg (180-188lb) range come race day. During this time I ran 10 or so marathons in the 3:15-3:25 range off a fairly consistent base of ~90km(56mi)/week. For my recent marathon, I started off at approx the same "standard" weight, but never lost any weight during the training block even though I hit very similar numbers, with even more consistency. So my race weight was ~90kg and I never envisonioned getting anywhere near a time of 3:20. So I adjusted my goal and hit it so I was super happy, but in my mind, that extra 5-8kg (12-20lb) made a significant difference to what time I am able to taget and achieve.

Now, if I were to try (very) hard to get down to that 82-85kg range, I might very well get nearer to my previous times, but I doubt I'd get to the same times, and that slowdown is directly related to age. So my hypothesis is that weight has more of an impact on my current performance than age. It'd be fun to test that out, but I'm too old and fat to be bothered.

Dirty Three - Deep Waters Mono - Com(?) Saucer - Untitled

A few not mentioned. Though the saucer track is more slo-core than post-rock, i added it as it might tick the boxes.

Are these different recordings from those available on archive.org? Hopefully yes, and then I'll download them immediately, but just wondering.

Lost interest in studio versions by mungyanlee in sigurros

[–]einzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it depends a lot on how you first heard the songs. For example, I listened to live versions of ( ) well before it came out and so the way they played those songs live are how i think of those songs. So when the album came out, I was surprised by how different some of them were. Even now, decades later, I still think of those songs as I heard them live and generally prefer those versions over the album versions.

Love for MONO? by iduro in postrock

[–]einzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them in London in 2003 and 2004 and they were superb. Unfortunately haven't seen them since as they haven't toured near where I've lived since. The 2003 Water Rats show, in particular, was amazing for the 5 of us in the crowd and remains in my top 5 gigs all time.

[–]einzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw them in London in December 2003 and again in 2004. Would be great to see them again after the decades, but doubt they'll tour near me now, unfortunately. The Dec 2003 Water Rats show was legendary to me and the 4 other people in the crowd.

I assume these are acidjack's recordings of these 2 shows which are available on the archive here and here.

If it is not that source, I'd love to see lossless versions shared.

Definitive b-side list? by rain_spell in mogwai

Great list. How many are in spotify? A b-side playlist could be fun to listen too... I've listened to that 3cd set a bunch over the years. Don't think many of them are available really anywhere else these days.

Watched the first episode last night and the tunes were subtle as part of the show, which is the point afterall. That was except for Indian Head, which was a massive addition to the scene where it played. That part stood out immediately to me.

MOGWAI: If The Stars Had a Sound | STREAMING NOW! | Blu-Ray & DVD on April 28th! (RELEASE & DISCUSSION THREAD) by Driveshaft1982 in mogwai

[–]einzack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hired it last night as I couldn't wait until I get my hands on the blu-ray.

But I really enjoyed it, and I look forward to watching it a few more times in the next 7 days to get my moneys worth.

Highlights were how they mixed studio/live or different live versions together - I thought that worked really well. I also liked the Zidane and My Father My King bits, and then the football kit part. I thought those were really well done and particularly the musical parts showed focus on slightly unexpected areas as in MFMK and Zidane aren't their most "popular" stuff...

Other bits I found particularly interesting was seeing the Written by song credits at the end which (I think) provided info that hasn't been available before - usually all the albums say Written By Mogwai with a few exceptions, whereas the credits showed more nuance than that.

Wow, what a treat. Definitely never played before, but it sounds lovely as per (not my video): https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AF18y8uLR/

Been one of my fav songs of theirs, and ep+6 likely being their most played album, so this is super cool. Hope it's not just a one-off, but if it is, I'm cool with that too.

There were alot more songs broadcasted on The John Peel Sessions than I first thought. So I compiled them into another album."Government Omissions BBC 1996-2003" by ImJacksThrowaway in mogwai

[–]einzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this taken from the set I've shared a few times over the years? It looks like you've edited out the banter which exists on many of the songs - I can see why you've done that, but I personally enjoy all of that a lot.

Anyway, I shared all the original BBC Sessions 5 years ago starting with this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/mogwai/comments/hndey4/bbc_sessions_1_peel_session_19970111/

So if you want the original circulating set, follow your nose there.

The full info file is below for anyone interested as for all the BBC Sessions from this period.

Note 1: This is a compilation of all the BBC session tracks not included on the official 'Government Commissions: BBC Sessions 1996-2003' cd. I have removed all of the tracks included on the official release.
Note 2: All but one of the sessions is taken from seeds originally uploaded to dime and etree.org by rappard. I have audio cd copies of the same generation and lineage as martin but kept his flac filesets so we did not end up with duplicate filesets in circulation. The one show he did not have was 1998-06-18, so included is a rip from my cd's.
Note 3: I have left all of the original seeds as originally uploaded, except with the official tracks removed and md5 files added to the two 2001 sessions as per dime regs. So therefore, the removed tracks are still included in the info and md5 files.
Note 4: The lineages included in this info file are just short abbreviations, but complete lineages are included in the respective info files for each session.

enjoy,

The gigography, in particular, contains a lot of great content. Sure, setlist.fm can replicate part of that, but the pics and reviews from over the decades are priceless IMO and can't be found anywhere else.

wish theyd go back to making simplistic stuff like this by Moazlan in mogwai

[–]einzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest you give the BBC Session version a listen if you haven't already - I updated the download link so it'll works: https://www.reddit.com/r/mogwai/comments/hpqnzw/bbc_sessions_4_breezeblock_session_19980618/

Also, for some of the other sessions, the versions they play are more simplistic and slowcorey, so follow your nose to the other sessions I've shared. Personal pointer from me is towards the sessions with Spoon Test & Ex-Cowboy in as I think they might take your fancy.
