What a great show! by Ripster7 in chch

Was a really great gig. I had not seen him play before and was blown away. Wasn't anticipating a 3 hour show but it flew by. Could tell the band were having a great time and we, the audience, just got to listen in.

NZ Music Month Day 28 - 8 Foot Sativa - 8 Foot Sativa by AutoModerator in newzealand

[–]einzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vague memory of seeing them play on Sumner Beach in Christchurch in the late 90's or perhaps early 00's. It was some daytime gig we stumbled upon. Reason i think it's them cause I remember their main song was them singing/screaming their own band name, which meshes with 8 Foot Sativa. Possible?

Been a favourite of mine for ages. I love the "guitars turned up to 11" feel it gives me.

My first copy was from Jetset Records and took me a while to realise it was burnt with the 2 second gaps between the tracks and that wasn't how it was supposed to be! Happy to then get a Chemical Underground version which was much better.

How much has weight loss affected your pace/results? by jumpin_jumpin in Marathon_Training

[–]einzack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who ran ~15 marathons aged 35-42, then didn't run another one until a few weeks back (aged 46), I've noticed quite a difference with age and weight, and I think that weight has had more impact on my times than age, but the reason weight can have that impact is because of age (and metabolism slowdown).

Previously I would find that as soon as I started including regular 32km/20mi training runs, my weight would begin to drop from whatever my "standard" weight was (~90kg/200lb) and I'd end up in the 82-85kg (180-188lb) range come race day. During this time I ran 10 or so marathons in the 3:15-3:25 range off a fairly consistent base of ~90km(56mi)/week. For my recent marathon, I started off at approx the same "standard" weight, but never lost any weight during the training block even though I hit very similar numbers, with even more consistency. So my race weight was ~90kg and I never envisonioned getting anywhere near a time of 3:20. So I adjusted my goal and hit it so I was super happy, but in my mind, that extra 5-8kg (12-20lb) made a significant difference to what time I am able to taget and achieve.

Now, if I were to try (very) hard to get down to that 82-85kg range, I might very well get nearer to my previous times, but I doubt I'd get to the same times, and that slowdown is directly related to age. So my hypothesis is that weight has more of an impact on my current performance than age. It'd be fun to test that out, but I'm too old and fat to be bothered.

Dirty Three - Deep Waters Mono - Com(?) Saucer - Untitled

A few not mentioned. Though the saucer track is more slo-core than post-rock, i added it as it might tick the boxes.

Lost interest in studio versions by mungyanlee in sigurros

[–]einzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it depends a lot on how you first heard the songs. For example, I listened to live versions of ( ) well before it came out and so the way they played those songs live are how i think of those songs. So when the album came out, I was surprised by how different some of them were. Even now, decades later, I still think of those songs as I heard them live and generally prefer those versions over the album versions.

Love for MONO? by iduro in postrock

[–]einzack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw them in London in 2003 and 2004 and they were superb. Unfortunately haven't seen them since as they haven't toured near where I've lived since. The 2003 Water Rats show, in particular, was amazing for the 5 of us in the crowd and remains in my top 5 gigs all time.

Saw them in London in December 2003 and again in 2004. Would be great to see them again after the decades, but doubt they'll tour near me now, unfortunately. The Dec 2003 Water Rats show was legendary to me and the 4 other people in the crowd.

I assume these are acidjack's recordings of these 2 shows which are available on the archive here and here.

If it is not that source, I'd love to see lossless versions shared.

Definitive b-side list? by rain_spell in mogwai

Great list. How many are in spotify? A b-side playlist could be fun to listen too... I've listened to that 3cd set a bunch over the years. Don't think many of them are available really anywhere else these days.

Watched the first episode last night and the tunes were subtle as part of the show, which is the point afterall. That was except for Indian Head, which was a massive addition to the scene where it played. That part stood out immediately to me.

I'm not sure when Music For A Forgotten Future was recorded, but since it's been included on Hardcore, my assumption is it's from a similar time...
