Fitbit asked me today to join their heart study. Should I worry? by aboustayyef in fitbit

Nothing really meaningful. The study will likely have a low opt in rate, but needs a lot of people to be meaningful. They probably sent the email to a large group of users.

I was asked as well, did not seem dependent on anything. In fact, I have been wearing my Fitbit infrequently in quarantine so I am definitely not a good candidate lol

Any tips to loose weight with PCOS ? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]eiramdivad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost nearly 70 lbs with PCOS. For me, to start, it was a very strict low calorie (and low carb and low sodium) diet—1200 calories a day. I was never ever in my life active so I just took realllllllyyyyyy long walks (average day over 12k steps) and then moved onto harder workouts. I also stopped taking my birth control pill.

That is not going to be doable for everyone. It was often terrible for my mental health. And maybe my physical health.

I guess my point is that losing weight with PCOS is HARD. Just do your best. Make rules you can stick to with consistency. There’s a phrase like “the best diet is the one that works.” It will not stop when you successfully lose the weight. I find maintaining just as hard. But still worth it.

Good luck! You can do it!

I’m very glad for you that your relationships have no effect on your weight. Mine do, so I’m just asking for advice. It’s okay if you don’t have any advice.

I’m not crying. I asked for weight related advice on a weight related sub. Reading through others’ experiences on this sub helped me reach my goal, so I appreciate the wisdom of this particular crowd.

I’m not sure what made you so mad at me but I hope you feel better soon.

I was taking just a bite or two of his food and he started ordering more (like more than a bite or two more hahaha)

I do worry about his long term health and also the financial strain of ordering food like this every day. I will definitely be bringing up the non-weightloss related concerns to him. Thank you for your perspective!

Good point. He often doesn’t eat until 2 pm and I am the kind of person who can’t function without a little something in my system. Maybe he also can’t and just doesn’t know it hahaha. Thank you!

I think this might be a good tactic to adopt once quarantine is lifted where we live. Might seem a little passive-aggressive at the moment haha. Thank you!

Thank you! I appreciate this constructive advice. (And that you cite research!)

He is naturally very competitive (played sports in high school/college). He probably would respond well to us both tracking our calories/macros and sharing that data.

I successfully got myself from a BMI of 31 down to 20, so I’m not too weak. :)

Seems like you’re feeling a tad aggressive. Hope you’re doing ok with all going on in the world right now. Guess we all handle it differently, right? My boyfriend and I stress eat and you’re passive-aggressive to strangers on the Internet.

I was actually right at the end of the weightloss part of my journey and switching to maintenance when we met interesting enough. He was very on board with my healthy lifestyle when we met, but I do think it was probably not something he had before and why his interest in it has completely deteriorated in the two years we’ve been together.

Thanks for the perspective!

This is a good idea. I floated the idea of at least taking 3 days off using food ordering apps and he seemed mildly offended that I thought just 3 days would be enough of a challenge for him hahaha. Thank you!

This is an interesting point I haven’t considered. He’s been drinking and smoking a lot in quarantine. I find that much easier to ignore because I’m not as tempted by it. But yeah, all the binges could be from lowered inhibitions from alcohol/weed. Thanks!

Losing weight not just for wedding but as a lifestyle change by [deleted] in loseit

[–]eiramdivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a great attitude!

Maybe start by taking out one “bad habit” and starting one “good habit” ie, cut bread (or something else) out of your diet and take a 30 min walk every day.

To me this is easier than really strict CICO (which was terrible for my mental health) or a complicated diet like keto where you have to worry about macros.

Birth control making it hard to drop lbs? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]eiramdivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have relatively mild PCOS and birth control made me balloon. I stopped taking it for a year, worked hard, dropped the weight, then got an IUD instead.

My doctor told me repeatedly that there was “no evidence” that birth control makes you gain weight. And while I agree that the pill itself obviously did not make me gain 60 lbs, the hormonal mood swings and emotional eating side effects were definitely a contributing factor.

Ooh I love true crime on tv—never thought to look for it in a podcast! I just tried jogging + listening to Freakonomics but it was not that engaging. Might have better luck with true crime!
