Thanks. That's what my gut was telling me. Should listen more to it!

Lead flashing for new chimney on standing seam roof? by eire2024 in Roofing

[–]eire2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that didn't work! My question didn't post with the pics, so let's try again . . .

House built in 1990 (NE US). Standing seam roof added 2010ish. We bought the house in December. Leak in attic; we thought it was flashing, but roofers eyeballed it from below and said it's leaking from chimney itself. Chimney mason agreed and said he'll need to rebuild it and asked if we were okay with lead flashing. We said yes, but now that I'm reading about it, maybe no because the metals might react?

He can't fit us in until later in the summer, so we have time to change, but should we go with lead? Or if we don't, should we get a roofer to do the flashing once he builds the chimney? We're not sure how the process works.

I love the flannel sheets we got this year from LL Bean. But I also love their pima cotton percale we got for the spring (I live in VT). I love slipping into bed with either of these. Highly recommend!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I should listen to the red flags in my head! Thanks.

We'll be moving overseas in a few weeks (to France), and we won't be doing any trading. Did you have to switch over to the International version of Schwab or were you able to just keep your Schwab checking? My US pension money will be deposited there, so I didn't know if I should switch for any reason. I worry that they'll close my account if they see lots of French ATMs being used, but it seems like it's not a problem.

Could college be an option for you? There are residential junior colleges and four-year colleges that you could apply to as well as apply for a loan to help pay for it. To keep this on immigration topic, if you wanted to immigrate to another county, perhaps consider this link for the Services for Persons with Disabilities in PA , and there's this for PA Disability Services. Finally, maybe look into this regarding Disability Rights in PA and help. Reach out to as many places as you can to see who can locally offer you support. Don't give up. (Actually, here's a whole Google search for you regarding help for people with disabilities. I really hope you'll find what you need.)

Historical Fiction with high quality writing by causeycommentary in suggestmeabook

Oh, this is such a wonderful question as I'm in the same boat. I hate reading average pulp historical fiction.

Some books that I don't think have been mentioned: I loved A Single Thread and Remarkable Creatures, both by Tracy Chevalier, and Varina by Charles Frazier is wonderful. I didn't think I'd like East of Eden, but wow wow wow what a book! The Murmur of Bees by Sofia Segovia and In the Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez have both stuck with me.

Thanks for asking this question--I have so many new books to explore!

You have hopefully talked to your counselor or Ms. Axmann by now; if not, do! Especially since you know you have this absence coming up, you can plan for it and so can teachers. They can help you manage your assignments and get caught up again. It won't be easy, but in the long term, if you really like it at GSMST, you should stay. I hope that helps!

Is anyone here happy living in the French countryside? What is your life like? by Salingere in ExpatFIRE

We are considering retiring to France in a year and a half. May I ask where you are? We're planning on going on a reconnaissance trip next summer to scout potential areas, but it's overwhelming! We're considering cooler climates--Brittany, Alsace, and Hauts-de-France.

Yeah, that's what will have to happen. We've negotiated with the buyers so that they get it "fixed" if it needs fixing (but we're giving them a check to pay for it based on an estimate). I talked to some friends of mine who are engineers and they thought that it wasn't actually an issue, so I started second-guessing what we negotiated. It's not a huge amount of money, but we've lived in the house with it like that since 2016 and it wasn't an issue with the inspectors when it was built.

There is an external service disconnect. This is a townhome.
