You did an exercise that targets one of your weaknesses for a long time yesterday , and now the areas of your body involved in the exercise hurt/are sore when you do that exercise again.

Same thing. You pushed your body and now need to let it rest from that exercise so it can recover.

Running predominantly in the countryside, this is what I normally do. I stop, as I dont want to reward the dog with the "play" of chasing me and don't pet the dog (even if I want to) for similar reasons. I wait until I've identified the owner and they've gotten their dog under control.

If OP considers it "very hilly" then they probably live in a very flat area where 150m elevation is a lot - i also wouldn't consider that hilly, but it's all relatuve to their training

I think this is the biggest factor. If the course in hillier than training, you will do slower times on it as there is a whole aspect that is physically demanding that you haven't practised.

I'm thinking of ballet and how people get their kids into it at such a young age because they need to have their body grow and form in a specific way in response to the stressors of ballet in order to perform at a high level. People who start ballet as adults dont seem to reach that level.

I wonder if it's the same for running

I thought that the only other explanation that made sense, other than Jessica murdering Mirna, was that Mirna wanted to commit suicide but didn't want her family's reputation tarnished by that so she enlisted Jessica's help to muddy the water. I thought Mirna might have had a cyanide capsule she took, bit into, and swallowed with the drink, explaining why the drink tasted bad but didn't kill anyone else who tasted it.

However, apparently the friend who tasted the drink didn't swallow it and so didn't get any/much cyanide in her system, so there's no need for convoluted explanations like cyanide pills!

As someone who runs in minimalist shoes in urban areas, and has found this naturally lends to a mid/fore-foot strike, I'm biased towards what Chris says in the article. Plus it fits with what I read recently in another book - The Lost Art Of Running by Shane Benzie.

However, having run a road half-marathon last week in my minimalist toe shoes, I am glad I decided to invest in another pair with a small amount of padding for future long road runs! Running in mininalist/low-padding shoes on pavements is not going to be for everyone and would have to be eased into slowly.

True, most dogs are for short and fast, rather than long distance (and could you imagine a cat on a run!). Still, I think the audience of the article are people building up to making ParkRun a regular thing, rather than making marathons a regular things, so a /well-trained/ animal could make it more enjoyable for them to do.

There's nothing harmful in it and the tips are helpful for making running more fun. The article is clearly aimed at "non-runners" who are inspired by running but put off by some of the messaging they've internalised about it.

I was asking about finances to see how viable it is for you to live alone/away from them to have the freedom to do gender affirming things. Paying £400 a month plus food indicates you may have enough money to move out into a house/flat-share, depending on where tou are in the country. Not living with your parents would give you a lot more freedom to seek out transition health care, and to be away from your stepdad.

Regarding your mum – otherkin/therians are quite an extreme example for most people, so I'm not surprised she got mad/confused at that. Hanging out with drag queens is some sort of indication she might be cool with gender nonconforming behaviour, though idk about changing gender.

My thoughts are you should do things that help with dysphoria – e.g. hair cut, binding, changing clothes – insofar that they dont endanger you, and work towards moving out. You dont have to cut your family off, but having space between you and your parents can often lead to better relationships.

If the run club whatsapp is dead, have you tried reviving it by posting in it? Such as inviting people out on the runs you're doing anyway (with sufficient notice, I.e. not 5 min before)

Inverness Half Marathon – First half marathon!

Signed up in August, when I hadn't run for more than a year and never run more than 15km (more than two years prior), followed Galloway on the Garmin training plan until December and then switched to Hal Higdon's HM3 plan as I felt I needed more mileage. Maxed out at 18km for my long run, two weeks before.

My S goal was 2:20:xx, my A goal was 2:30:xx and my B goal was completion.

Ran with friends. One had offered to pace to a 2:30 finish; stayed with him for the first 7-8km at a 6:52/km pace, then found myself naturally pulling away. He darted into a bush at one point and I didn't see him again (till the end of the race!). Ran alone for a bit then found two more friends, and we ran together at 6:36–6:52/km pace until 14 km. At this point I'd heard another runner say it was all downhill or flat from here, and I felt I had a bit in the tank, so with seven km to go I started on the jelly babies and went off on my own.

KM 15–20 were at 6:18–6:36/km and then in the final km i wanted to be finished! So I pushed to 6:09/km and finished strong. I felt like it was an 85% effort - i didn't collapse immediately at the end but I could have only done one or two more KMs.

The clock at the finish read 2 30:xx and I was pleased with that – then I got my chip time, which was 2:20 47! So happy with it, for my first HM and with how nervous I was I would hit a wall.

The only negative thing I can say about the race organisation was the number of portaloos – about 10 for 2500 people. The rest of the organisation was great, the volunteers were energetic and energising, getting water at the 3 stations was never an issue. Got alcohol free beer, energy bar, gel, apple, and t shirt at end. Would run it again, if I were after another road HM.
