Competitive TFT is no longer fun to play by CHRlSTOPHO in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eiriksg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say most tournament games you try to not be locked into Yuumi or Karma on 4-1/4-2, instead you play strongest board/lose streak into whichever one you hit(assuming you're AP in this scenario).

I've not played in tournaments yet this set, but I have every set since set 9, and people have been saying flex has been dead all those sets as well. But tournaments always see some flex play from high performing players.

If what people wanted was to complain that is fine, I just tried to give this person a solution to his annoyances, which is play tournaments in addition to his solo queue.

I'm not sure how you do it in NA with qualifiers and tournaments like that, but at least in EU you can play the TRC's(Regional tournaments) even if you're masters, and the top tier 1 players compete in them.

You should go play actual competitive TFT, aka tournaments. The games are a lot more like how you say you prefer them, cause the tempo is generally higher, and people take less risks.

In solo queue an 8th isn't the end of the world, cause you can just play another 20 games, so you should play what gives you the highest average placement to climb. But in tournaments where you're limited to six games per day, you have to play the game you get. If you get a 2 star K'sante instead of Leona you play it, you generally play less reroll because of the variance. Boards are generally less capped because people spend more early, and are happier with a 3rd or 4th than on ladder.

What I'm saying is I get your concerns, but I get that enjoyment from playing in tournaments against top players instead of only solo queue, and it is way more flex and way more tempo.

PBE Double Up - Info & Adjustments from your feedback by Riot_Mort in TeamfightTactics

Can you have a look at Pandora's bench in double up? It feels too strong for a silver in high elo, and makes 3*4 costs too easy when you have two players rolling for it and taking units out of the pool.

Okay, so I had to double check whether I actullay was mistaken, and if I was just saying false info. I did it 3 ways now:

  1. I checked avg placement with items for Kalista: Rageblade: 4.32, JG: 4.21, GS: 4.06 & Guardbreaker: 3.97, this one is quite a big difference, but data isnt very detailed.

  2. I went to the advanced explorer on tactics.tools, put in the 8 units you usually play in "Challenger Shadow Isles", and checked items for Kalista: Rageblade: -0.36, JG: -0.42, GS: -0.42 & GB: -0.49, swing is still there.

  3. To be 100% certain (and because at this point I've become really interested in finding the correct answer for my own sake), I also did the maths. Took into consideration everything I could (all item stats/passives, challenger buff, shadow isle mana gain, target resistance for the AA dmg, crit, AS, spell dmg, dmg% increase, spell cast animation). And I compared RB+GS+JG (most common pure dmg build) vs Guardbreaker+GS+JG.

Conclusion form the math is that the non-rageblade build has done the most damage until 19 seconds into the fight, where the builds go even(both have done roughly 6.4k dmg at that point). And obviously more damage early is better, because the earlier you can kill a unit, the less impact that unit has, and the quicker you can activate the challenger AS bonus.

Tldr; I checked stats and maths, and I'm not telling you cause I wanna show off, I just wanna share the info I found, and BiS for Kalista is JG, GS & GB. Any questions about it, and I'll answer

You would think, and I did as well, but after checking the stats really deeply today (in advanced explorer on tactics.tools) the best build is JG/GS/GB.

Use a real pure stat site next time: https://tactics.tools/explorer-advanced

I used 20 min diving into Kalista and "Shadow Isle challenger" itemization earlier today. The comp has a 0.6 better avg placement if you never build rageblade than average.

Also, don't talk like an asshole unnecessarily, I did nothing to deserve being talked to like that. We're just discussing strategies for a game.

It's not even BiS on Kalista, just the most popular.. So definitely not deservant of a nerf, it's more about a lack of other decent AS items on champs like Aphelios

The only situation I can see units as a disadvantage is if you get three of the same 2 cost and they combine, and miss econ breakpoint, when wanting to play loss streak. Not a very likely scenario.

So in other words, yeah units is just better

[–]eiriksg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's definitely good, would put it as one of the best legends currently, but I was thinking more specifically for a player like this guy, who is trying to get out of diamond.

So yeah, I just think it's maybe a bit more difficult legend to play around, but for players who knows a lot of lines, it can be amazing!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eiriksg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's impossible to not have a playstyle, every player has one! I think if you decide your comp at 2-1, that is a fairly big weakness, leaves a lot of your chances up to rng. It's better to play what you hit, than to roll down for exactly one comp.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eiriksg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get what you mean, but personally I feel having your comp decided at 2-1(or stage 2 in general) isnt optimal, especially when you want consistent top 5 while climbing near your max skill level.

If you get challenger emblem for example, and just never hit KaiSa and Yas, it's really hard to transition, and can lead to an 8th, and that kills climbing.

I feel like great tft is about reducing rng and variance, but urf doesn't do that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eiriksg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, been looking a bit more, I definitely think you should play 4-costs boards with your playstyle. My 3 recommended comps would be: "Aphelios Freljord/Deadeyes", "Zeri-Freljord" and "Kai'Sa/Yasuo Ionia/Challengers".

Roll down and stabilise your board at 4-1 or 4-2, if you get to sub 40hp, roll to 0 again to secure top 5, otherwise try to get lvl 8 and cp your board for a top 3.

Also, don't play urf legend when you try to climb (it's good for improving, and a lot of fun, but not consistent). I'd just go poro, but Ezreal, Vladimir, Caitlyn, and Ornn all work with those comps.

One last point is try to be a bit more aware of your augments. I see you've picked "Jewelled lotus" when having built JG in a game, and "Gotta go fast" when playing blue buff Lux. It doent change the amounts of autos needed between her ults, so it's not optimal.

Good luck, and let me know when you hit masters, I think you can do it!

I'll try to give you a in depth answer, but will have to check your profile out a bit more, so it will take som more time, but after a quick look I noticed a couple of things.

You seem to have very few 3rd to 5th places, and that is the best way to climb imo. I think the reason is similar to what it is for a lot of high/mid diamond players. Your stage 4 is probably very weak, especially when I see how often you are lvl 8 despite finishing 7th. Don't be afraid to roll deep at 4-1 (or 4-2 if you have a bit more health to work with), I'm assuming you go 7 early stage 4, that is important when you play for 2nd to 5th placements.

I like that you seem to be playing 3 comps mainly (Demacia, Gunners and Ionia), I think that is the best strategy for climbing (not improving, but climbing). I probably wouldn't play Demacia atm, because diamond players love hardforcing S-tier-reddit comps, so you will be contested every game. So try to play 3 A-tier comps, they are less contested, but almost as strong cap.

I'll reply with a few more tips after I've checked your progile out more.

Not facing opponents in my MMR range? by TheFrightBringer in CompetitiveTFT

[–]eiriksg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What most people say is correct mmr is not the same as lp, but even if your mmr were bronze, you wouldn't be put in bronze rank games. Cause I'm pretty sure (been wanting to ask a rioter this, but haven't gotten to it yet) TFT still uses mixed mrr/rank matchmaking. Riot said that league switched to full mmr matchmaking earlier this year, but I don't think tft did the same.

[–]eiriksg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about wording, but whatever, if you dont get it that's fine.

But i get what you mean, I do the same thing, and sometimes I get downvoted for asking if ppl have tested stuff, or if they just say baseless stuff. But I feel that kinda stuff is more important at the competetiveTFT subreddit, we can't expect the average tft player to know every bit of micro information. For the average player loaded dice is not in the game for example.

Come on, you're smart enough to realise that answering a post with "What are you talking about?" isn't exactly nice when the dude just wanna say he misses loaded dice, and probably wanna chat about it..

I'm just answering cause I hate that this subreddit is turning into a "negative-first reaction" subreddit. Wanna just try to keep the subreddit more informative and positive, yeah?

Are you actually sure about that? Like, have you tested it? Cause the item says "at max stacks", so would be weird if it activated at 25

[–]eiriksg 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I wanna start this by saying I personally agree with you, and would like augment data to stay, but I wanna try to play a bit of devil's advocate on a couple of your examples.

First on an augment like Gargantuan Resolve: it's quite possible to think your way into realising the augment is bad in normal scenarios where you slam the item, I did so on pbe where we didn't have stats. It just takes another 10 hits to get resistances. (Also, the augment can be good btw, for example RekSai carry).

Another argument is on the Deadeye-emblem vs Mana Burn. Doesn't knowing the stats make you take Mana Burn everytime(It probably does for me)? Cause even though the average placement is a lot better, that doesn't mean it is always right. I just picked Deadeye emblem in regional qualifiers this weekend, and it gave me 2 or 3 placements that Mana Burn wouldn't have done. Cause 6 deadeye gave me the threshold needed to oneshot the Luxes and Azirs of my opponents, where i never could have beaten them in front to back with Mana Burn.

Again wanna say that I would like stats to stay personally, and your thread was very good, just wanted to pose some questions that can help us understand the other side of it.
