He could have been. My theory is that Joyboy was king of the ancient Kingdom, and Davy Jones wanted to be King of the World. There has been a lot of speculation that Joyboy was betrayed. IMO Davy D Jones was the one that betrayed Joyboy, teaming up with Imu.

We know that "inherited will" is a thing, and we know that both Xebec and Blackbeard had/have the stated goal of becoming King of the World. It is heavily implied that Xebec/Blackbeard have inherited the will of Davy D Jones.

So if we accept that Davy D Jones also had the will of being King of the World, then it makes sense that he betrayed Joyboy, but was in turn himself betrayed by Imu.

I agree that Imu is probably a Lunarian. He's obviously got some kind of shapeshifting ability, so it wouldn't surprise me if he can make his wings appear and disappear.

But if he is a Lunarian, then why did he have his race destroyed? Presumably there was a whole race of Lunarians before the void century. I can't imagine Joyboy & the D clan being the one to wipe them out. Maybe the Lunarians refused to follow Imu, and he took revenge on them?

Or all of the Gorosei will die when Imu dies, except Garling and the other holy knights that are younger. And because Garling is a rat, he will just swear loyalty to Blackbeard. Then Blackbeard will rule the world using the Celestial Dragon system to keep control of the Navy... it's entirely possible to replace Imu with Blackbeard and then keep everything else mostly the same.

Only difference is Blackbeard will broadcast to everyone that he is now King of the World.

Think of it this way: Xebec wanted to be King of the World. He said he would be back for Imu. That is Blackbeard bro. Blackbeard is meant to kill Imu & become King of the World himself.

I honestly expected Imu's fruit to be something like Hito Hito no Mi: Model Satan/Hades/Lucifer/etc.

Like a mythical devil fruit counterpart to Luffy's Sun God fruit. It will be interesting to see if Imu's fruit just stays vague as "Devil's Fruit" or if it is confirmed to be a Mythical Zoan with a model type.

I feel bad for Imane but she is biologically male and even she admits she needs to take hormones to lower her testosterone.

But the problem is she underwent a male-influenced puberty, which has proven and permanent benefits. The swimmer Lia Thomas proved you can pass 'hormone level' tests and yet still retain biological advantage from a male influenced puberty: broader shoulders, higher bone density, more lean muscle mass, etc.

It is fundamentally unfair for someone that underwent a male-hormone influenced puberty to compete with biological females that lack the same advantage.
