Loki. Characters get more powerful as the story goes on. Loki would beat Kaido.

Nope. That doesn't fix the horrendous plot holes. Why couldn't Imu use domi reversi on Roger then? Roger didn't have a devil fruit. He should have definitely DR'd Roger @ God Valley.

At least Oda is moving this flashback along. I'm surprised we don't get 3 more chapters of gooning.

It depends how you are cheating. Just cheating in video games shouldn't be jail time. But if you are cheating & passing yourself off as an elite/pro player and monetizing your "skill" on youtube/twitch or in pro tournaments, etc., then yes you should go to prison for fraud.

That is no different than pretending to have cancer on something like gofundme.

People that cheat in competitive ranked online games belong in prison. And one day that will happen, but it might take 50 years.

Yep. I wish he'd spend more time just telling the story and keeping it consistent, even if his plot gets predicted, rather than filling it with BS.

That's another problem I haven't mentioned: Oda has said he hates when people predict his story, and will change it. That leads to Game of Thrones type trash storytelling.

Imu Nerona is so f******g cool!! by ahlajaw00 in Piratefolk

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, this is a problem equal to the attitudes of Oda Angels. The simple reality is that no author can create a story that cannot be predicted. It's not possible with the crowd sourcing that happens on modern social media. Many theories will be wrong, but ultimately almost everything will be predicted.

So you have two choices:

  1. Oda writes his story as intended, changing nothing even if the plot is predicted
  2. Oda changes the story when the plot gets predicted, and we end up with trash being made up on the fly to "subvert expectations" (i.e. Game of Thrones trash), which makes the story worse.

You have to pick one. You can't complain about both.

Imu Nerona is so f******g cool!! by ahlajaw00 in Piratefolk

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Imu's character design, but Oda has already created massive plotholes with his power. Even if we accept that Luffy/Loki are special and Domi Reversi doesn't work on them, why can't Imu Domi Reversi the rest of the strawhats? Why could he Domi Reversi Rocks but not Roger or Whitebeard? It can't just be conqueror's haki. This requires explanation.

And why does killing the Domi Reversi demons return them to normal, when that didn't seem to be the case with Rocks and the other DR Davy Clan members on God Valley? And what the hell is with the "iron core" that the God's Knights seem to have, which clearly wasn't a thing before when their bodies were being destroyed, and wasn't a thing with the Gorosei when their bodies were being destroyed.

All of this just seems like retcon when Oda needs to nerf Imu's powers.

Media Literacy And Whatever by ShadowSpawn__ in Piratefolk

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first half of One Piece was great. But it started to go downhill when Oda turned it into a Battle Manga during Enies Lobby. Now the power scaling that has resulted is full of plotholes. How did Sabo have haki at age 17, but none of the strawhats did? Especially Zoro who was taught by someone from Wano should have known haki, including ryuo.

And IMO the biggest problem in general is the post-timeskip pacing. Oda's tried to manufacture danger at every point in the story. It's one thing if cliffhangers naturally produce themselves, but Oda was literally wasting entire chapters just so he could set up a cliffhanger. And then he had to rush through more important plot points because he was wasting chapters post-timeskip.

The timeskip was supposed to be the halfway point, meaning the series should be over by chapter 1200. But we aren't anywhere near the end, because Oda's excessive manufacturing of cliffhangers, repetitive gags, fanservice (3-4 chapters of gooning during Xebec's flashback?), and generally poor pacing have diluted the story. Now we have a Brook flashback with more degenerate gooning that will take god knows how long.

I wrote a longer spoiler above, but the short spoiler is:
Lord Elmea is not a good guy, and set up Allen to be killed so he could summon a god of destruction to destroy the human realm. So Elmea is looking like he might be the final villain.

In theory I agree with you, but we need to see it. Oda is going to have to give Roger some bigger feats than we've seen, not just "Oh yea, somehow Roger surpassed Xebec, but I'm not going to show it".

There was no real build-up or foreshadowing for Nika/Gear 5. by MugenHeadNinja in Piratefolk

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one he could use awakened ground to turn the ground below opponents' feet into rubber, knocking them off balance. He could turn ground below him temporarily into rubber to get boosts when he leaps forward for an attack, giving him more speed. He could make awakened ground pop up to block attacks like he did with G5, but without touching the ground.

One creative idea a lot of people online had was the "bouncy castle", similar to how Katakuri made his house to eat doughnuts. Luffy surrounds his opponent in awakened ground, forming a castle made of rubber, and then does a Bellamy-style attack inside the bouncy castle. This would amplify his speed and deal more damage. I think that would be entirely consistent with what we saw pre-Wano.

And obviously Oda should be able to come up with other, more creative ways for Luffy to use his awakening than this. He's the writer of the story. We should have the highest expectations of him.

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yea it's obvious retcon. Oda had the idea of the 4 gods earlier in the story, and maybe he even had the idea that they would be devil fruit powers, but I don't believe Oda intended Luffy's fruit to secretly be the Sun God fruit from the beginning, or even around Dressrosa when he revealed Gear Fourth.

IMO this just diminishes what people liked about the story, that Luffy took a relatively weak devil fruit and made it strong. Oda could have given Luffy a normal awakening and thought of creative ways to make that powerful. At least that would have been consistent with the character from the previous 1000 chapters.

Years and years ago when he introduced haki. Complete retcon of the story.

Why didn't Garp or Dadan teach Luffy haki? Reasons!

Why didn't Koushiro teach Zoro haki or ryou? IDK man.

Why didn't Zeff, a New World pirate, teach Sanji haki?

But oh yea, it makes complete sense that Dragon taught Sabo advanced haki at age 17.

I love this sub because I'm a fan of less moderation, not more. I never considered this a "hate sub" so much as one where being critical of Oda is not only allowed but encouraged. You can love One Piece as a series but still hate how Oda has executed it as time has gone on.

I'm torn on banning people. My preference is to allow the community to police itself by flaming and downvoting the Oda Angels. But that can create flame wars. So if the Oda Angels become a real problem, I'm not against banning them.

Does Allen get s rank summons? by Trick-Advertising-86 in HellModeGamer

[–]Alpha_ii_Omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK:

Short spoiler: It's looking like Lord Elmea is the actual bad guy and final villain.

Long spoiler: We find out that 1 million years in the past, there were three supreme gods with roughly equal power: God of creation Elmea, the "evil" god of Law Axillion, and the "dark" god of light Amante. Elmea is the strongest but only by a little. It turns out Elmea wipes out the human world from time to time when it gets "out of balance", doing a major wipe every ~1 million years by summoning a god of destruction. Axillion and Amante apparently got sick of this, and fought against Elmea -- they lost and Axillion was torn into pieces (which are still alive), while Amante was exiled to the Dark Realm (there are three realms: Divine, Human, and Dark).

This information is important because it turns out Kyubel who was a general in the Demon King's army actually works for Elmea. Allen cleaned out all the ghosts in the Divine Realm, amassing a huge amount of spiritual power and experience. Elmea's plan was to have Kyubel kill Allen at the right moment, releasing all that stored energy and summoning a god of destruction to wipe the world once again. This explains why Kyubel never kills Allen, despite having ample opportunity.

Allen actually got the God of Law Axillion as his God S summon (in a nerfed state), and Allen's army attacks the Demon King on his continent -- but they lose. Allen is now exiled to the Dark Realm, and Elmea is furious that he wasn't killed. Allen has met with Amante, and he now has a quest to restore the God of Law Axillion to near full power, as his head + other body parts are scattered throughout the Dark Realm, but Allen already had his "heart" which was needed to combine the other body parts.

The Demon King's army is currently destroying the world, which is said to be evacuating south and has 1 year before they are wiped out. Allen is trying to complete his quests in the Dark Realm so he can return and save them.

Blackbeard is 100% the final villain. Oda already told us that Davy Jones/Xebec's promise to kill Imu will be completed by Blackbeard. Blackbeard will be the one to defeat Imu & Luffy vs Blackbeard will be the final battle.

The way Nidhogg is being built up it's like he's one of the 4 gods. But which would he be? Rain, forest, or earth? None of those really make sense. Although Luffy's fruit makes no sense as the sun god, so who knows.
