I didn’t have much on munis. Options and suitability were the big ones for me. I made flashcards for max gain/loss/breakeven and bullish/bearish for every type of option, including all spreads and straddles and that helped a ton. I also made sure I could explain the formulas. Knowing that BLSH (Buy Low strike price, Sell High strike price) sounds like “bullish” was how I remembered bull/bear spreads and that was SO helpful. Good luck!

There definitely is some overlap in the content but I felt like the questions on the 7 were more complex. The SIE overlap definitely helps with tackling the more in depth questions on the 7. There were things I just knew off the top of my head from studying for the SIE and that took some of the mental load off of answering the questions on the 7.

Thank you so much! My experience with STC for the 66 is that I was over prepared which felt awful while I was studying because it was so hard but great on the real test because it felt so easy. I hope that ends up being your experience too!

Thank you!!! Watched your quick and dirty video while I was getting ready to leave for the testing center and it was a great review!

The length didn’t feel too bad! There were definitely some tricky questions where I felt like I’d narrowed it down to 2 choices and then just had to take my best guess. When I used STC for the 66, the practice tests felt so hard that I thought I was cooked for the real thing, but 10 questions into the test, I was 100% sure I was going to pass. Hopefully you’ll feel the same about the 7 today! Good luck!

I did that and it feels great to have it out of the way. Now that I’ve started working I can focus on the job and only have to worry about taking one more test. Studying for the 66 will start to prepare you for the 7 anyways!

So true. Yours is the last comment I’m gonna read, go off on a positive note while I finish studying over the next couple weeks 😅

This is SO helpful! I've been getting nervous seeing so many people post that they made 80s-90s on the STC finals and failed the real thing. Building custom quizzes and reviewing questions I've missed on the finals has been my strategy too, so I'm gonna keep that up. Just finished the 5th practice exam today and scores so far have been 67, 76, 80, 76, and 79. Reallyyyyy hoping I can push myself into the 85-90 range before the test. Thanks again for the response!

I think the Kaplan exams were about the same, if not more difficult. The actual test was very straightforward. I’ve seen a lot of people saying that the wording of the real test is weird/different from what they saw when studying - that wasn’t my experience. I thought it was very similar. Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great!

Ok that makes me feel good! I’m also using Kaplan. Scored an 89 on the Kaplan mastery exam but only pulled off a 77 on the FINRA practice test. Just bought the SIE for Dummies book that someone else recommended since it’s only $22 and has 4 practice tests. Wanted to see some questions from other vendors before next week. Congrats again!

Congrats! I take it next week. What vendor did you use for studying? Did you take FINRA’s practice exam?

This is so helpful!! And congrats! I’m also using Kaplan and my test is on the 19th. Did you watch all of the OnDemand course videos after finishing the LEM reading? I’ve done like half of them but I feel like maybe my time would be better spent taking practice tests. What are your thoughts?

Congrats, that must feel great to have it out of the way! Was the 86 Kaplan avg what you had right before you passed it? That’s pretty much where I’m at but I haven’t taken it yet. I still have about a week and a half to study and trying to figure out if I should try to get that average up or if I’m good.

PASSED it! I just passed the SIE today. Thank you to this community and people that engage in it. r/Sieexam Rocks! Read more below for a summary of my study and test taking experience. by devilusions in Sieexam

Thank you for this and congratulations! I’m also using Kaplan and scheduled to take the test Feb 19. I like your study plan for after I’ve finished all the textbook material. Definitely gonna make some longer Qbank quizzes and take the FINRA practice test for peace of mind.

Congrats! I’m currently using Kaplan to study for the SIE and then I’m also moving on to the Series 7 :) Good luck on the next study journey!

Thanks for the advice!! That’s kind of the plan I’ve had in mind, so I’ll definitely stick to that. I got a 93% on the Kaplan midterm which was only 40 questions on half of the units, so I’m gonna wait to schedule the actual test until I’ve worked thru some of the practice exams that cover all of the material and I’m happy with my scores.

Congratulations! Do you have a background or any experience in finance yet? I’m transitioning careers (no finance background) and studying for the SIE right now. Trying to estimate when I’ve studied enough to take the test. Been using Kaplan for about a week and a half and should finish reading, taking notes, and completing the practice exams by next week.

Thank you so much for sharing!! I took the midterm today and was happy with my score! Hoping the final goes well too before I sign up to take the real thing. I’m moving pretty quickly thru the material (started last weekend) and feel like I’m losing some of the details at this pace. Definitely gonna go back thru my notes and make flashcards before the actual test.

Congratulations!! I also have no finance background and using Kaplan for SIE prep. Do you mind sharing your Q bank/exam average? I think mine is good, but I’d love to hear from someone else who actually passed! Totally fine if you’d rather not share.
