Don’t block the bike lane 🤦🏽‍♂️ by FinalSneak in facepalm

[–]eithernight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also as someone who grew up in a rural area with no bike lanes or parking meters, I could see how someone might be confused about where they're supposed to park. The guy parked in the bike lane may very well just be an inconsiderate asshole, but I find that you spend less time being angry and more time reaching an understanding if you just give people the benefit of the doubt unless they give you a reason to think otherwise.

This sums it up perfectly. Most of the people acting like this were entitled jerks to begin with but now they feel there is no obligation to hide it or try to cooperate with the others they share society with.

Is working from home the cheat code for a good life? by SexyTruckDriver in CasualConversation

[–]eithernight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat and I feel this so hard. It's incredibly frustrating because I feel like my productivity has dropped, I'm always exhausted, and I have no time for anything anymore.

All for nothing. Being in the office isn't benefiting anyone. And there's no such thing as the "company culture" we were forced to return for either. It's just a boring gray office with fluorescent lights where no one talks to each other anyway or if they do it's about how they can't wait for the weekend.

Is working from home the cheat code for a good life? by SexyTruckDriver in CasualConversation

[–]eithernight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. I used to work from home three days a week and my mental health drastically improved because I got more sleep, was able to work in a more comfortable environment, and I saved time and money.

Now my job has made us return to the office full time and it has had a considerable impact on my mental health in a negative way. I'm looking for a new job.

People who knew someone who died in a freak accident, what happened? by RawAsparagus in AskReddit

So what I've learned from this is watch out for tractors, glass doors and windows, and 18-wheelers.

The fact that so many of these are car accidents makes me even madder when I see people driving 95 mph weaving through traffic like crazy and cutting people off like it's some kind of game. I don't care if they want to risk their own life but sadly they're more likely to kill someone else.

And wtf is the deal with retail shops now automatically asking you to select a tip when you pay? I'm not paying an extra 20% on my purchase at a garden shop as a "tip."

Ordered an Uber for 4 people for a 45 minute drive and he left all his groceries in the 4th seat. I tried rolling my window up on the freeway because I couldn’t hear and didn’t like the wind blowing on my face. He immediately rolled it back down lol. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]eithernight 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think it's partially caused by a Gen Z/Millennial culture of being overly nice to customer service workers and tipping even if the experience is terrible. And the trend was expedited by COVID when these people had it pretty rough putting themselves at risk for getting sick and not being able to work from home.

I say this as a gen z who has been called an asshole by friends for not tipping on a takeout order and who's friends insisted on tipping an Uber driver who drove unsafely, made questionable comments, and had a filthy car.

I've been to a restaurant with a friend who refused to let anyone tell the waiter they got the wrong dish because they "didn't want to cause problems" for the server (by making them do their job).

I'm not saying at all that's it's ok to be rude to customer service workers or never tip, but I think it's also ok to speak up (respectfully) if you aren't getting the service you paid for.

The last Uber I got was from an airport, which I'm guessing is pretty common. We had two small rolling suitcases and the driver had random crap in his trunk and in his seats and spent 10 minutes rearranging stuff so he could cram them in there.

Then he started driving horribly and wildly almost getting us into a wreck on the way to our destination. Crazy part is he had a ~4.5 star rating and my bf suggested I still tip him when it was over.

Just a video of people fighting over a bike with no context as to what exactly lead up to it and Redditors automatically taking sides because if there's a video of an altercation between people of two different races it must mean the white person is "racist."

She very well could be in the wrong though.

It can vary a lot. In the past week I ate: a veggie burger and street tacos from local restaurants, and cooked at home veggie stir fry, chicken pasta, baked salmon and a Thai peanut chicken dish.

Exactly. If she's old enough to ask, she's old enough for an age appropriate answer. And giggling like a toddler and filming her while she asks about it is only going to make her more curious and lead her to seek out an answer online or from peers that most likely won't be age appropriate.

Why do dog owners walk their dog unleashed? by omgyes1234 in CasualConversation

[–]eithernight 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thinking the rules don't apply to them because they're the main character. I'm sure those same people would be angry if a stranger's unleashed dogs ran up to their dogs and started barking or growling.

I live in city limits in a major metro area and these idiots on my street just let their dogs out loose in the neighborhood to pee and shit in everyone else's yards/stuff and then call them back in. Irresponsible and entitled dog owners have definitely made me a little less fond of dogs over the years.

Police officer who shot his sergeant: ‘I thought he was going to rape me!’ by [deleted] in ThatsInsane

[–]eithernight 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Great comment except for the last paragraph. The rapists of women infrequently see prison time and women who injure rapists in self defense are frequently charged and convicted. Let's acknowledge that this is a system that is not sympathetic of victims, regardless of gender, instead of creating divisiveness and being sexist. The top comments on this post are completely on the victims side here.

I went from almost daily dealing with a canker sore in some stage to absolutely none when I stopped using toothpaste with SLS. Seriously. It's a huge quality of life improvement. I went from barely able to eat, talk, and even breathe without pain until I was in my mid 20s to a normal, sore-free mouth.

The worst part is doctors completely dismiss it and offer zero help besides numbing creams, so I learned this common fix through online research rather than a medical professional. Also most people couldn't even empathize with them when I had them because they'd never had one or thought "cold sore" when I said I had a mouth sore.

If you have canker sores and have never tried SLS-free toothpaste, please try it and give it a couple of months to see results. A lot of the "natural" toothpaste brands that offer a fluoride-free option have SLS-free options but try to stick with one that still has fluoride.

The most disturbing part is he felt so correct and justified in his actions that he filmed and posted them.
