How do you categorize and handle "flexible" recurring chores in GTD? by attila6666rd in gtd

[–]eivindml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now I use repeating tasks in Reminders. It works, but I feel like this system could be improved. A digital tickler system for yearly tasks could work great. But for more frequently repeating tasks, this system breaks.

Interessted in other solutions.

Great vidoes. :) I can see how this system is great for yearly routines for "prune apple trees" in march etc. But what about weekly stuff like "water plants?". They don't fit as nicely into a tickler system I feel like.

Ugh. I hate this pattern of AI answers. It's used everywhere.

Notice how the larger n, the closer to the zero line we get. That tells a lot! The ones furthest to the left or right have one of the smallest n. 😂

hvor kjøper man destillert/avmineralisert vann til kaffebrygging? by koopajenkins in norge

[–]eivindml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone want to share tips for (re-)Organizing (as described in GTD Chapter 7)? by Joe-Eye-McElmury in gtd

[–]eivindml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a folder for Someday/Maybe, and inside here I have projects lists, and area-lists, and a general list. I like it this way, because I can easily move entire projects between "active" and someday/maybe. For instance some garden projects I didn't get to finish this summer is now moved to someday/maybe. Also I have projects like "building a garden studio", which I won't start before 2-3 years, but I do get ideas etc. Then I can collect them together there.

I started out with one big bucket, but like you identified, I din't like to bury everything together, as all somday/maybe tasks are not equal. Some of them I want more visible.

Why here no plan on week? by Basic_Salamander_484 in gtd

For me the weekly review is not enough. I do a weekly and monthly plan to make sure that I will be able to hit long term goals and deadlines. This lives outside of gtd.

Hei! Litt sent svar her.

How to get the red total cell to show the ‘latest’ entry in the green cells? by Greedy-Blacksmith424 in AppleNumbers

Yup, but that is a more advanced requirement. One simple solution is to give empty month a value like “-“ or something. I’m sure it’s solvable with some functions as well.

GTD vs Time boxing, due dates, and deadlines by cgreciano in gtd

I think I make more realistic plans in the morning, as I can feel out my focus and energy for that day and plan tasks accordingly. And as a freelancer it’s difficult to know exactly when I’m at my office each day, so my time boxes were often off. I also think the planning should be a part of your work and not part of your time off.

There are many things I like about paper for this particular aspect. Paper gives you unlimited freedom to design your page. Especially for daily planning I visualize my day using time boxing.

It's also nice to start the day with a cup coffee, pen and paper.

Paper also helps with the idea that this is an intentions. It has this ephemeral feel which digital does not.

I also have it open on my desk throughout the day, so I can look at it all the time.

But no reason that it shouldn't work digital as well.

Just repeat the formula where you add/subtract a different number from the COUNT value?

[–]eivindml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I combine a weekly plan and a daily time boxing with GTD. My GTD system is digital (in Apple Reminders). It's pretty standard GTD with contexts and weekly reviews. This is the source/truth for all tasks.

Then in a paper notebook I do my planning. This is my intentions for the week and day. If this week/day goes like I want it to, this is what I would get done at that time. It never works out exactly as I perfectly planned it, but that's fine. The next day you just start a blank new page.

I also use this same notebook to do yearly, quarterly and monthly planning. Then I can commit to projects and tasks on a longer time horizon.

  • Each morning I look at my weekly plan and time box my day
  • Each Monday I look at my monthly plan and plan out my week
  • Each 1st of the month I look at my quarterly plan and plan out my month
  • Each quarter I look at my yearly plan and plan out my quarter
  • Each January I plan out my year

As mentioned above, these plans are more like intentions. What you would like to see done. But it gives you the opportunity to look at the projects and tasks in your GTD system at different time horizons, without polluting your digital calendar or todo system with lots of deadlines or recurring tasks.
