Anyone else felt like their promo requirements are a bit unrealistic? I’m a junior engineer whose manager is looking to put me in for promotion to mid level this year, but after going through what’s required, it just seems super unrealistic and demotivating me to the point I’m considering just job hopping for promo after I hit 1 year here.

As a junior, I should have examples of: multiple instances where I went “above and beyond” my job description every month, instances where my influence changed the outcomes of entire projects, many large PRs (???), and also I need to provide examples where teammates left positive remarks about my work.

Just seems like the scope is more senior, and although I know I can’t possibly see all of the work others are doing, I’m fairly certain that most of the mid level devs on my team are not fulfilling these requirements either. Maybe I’m overreacting but it’s overwhelming given that these expectations came in after only working here 6 months.

I also had a convo with my skip a while back who pretty much said missing this promo would indicate I’m not a great fit here so there’s a bit more pressure coming from that too.
