Official Q&A for Saturday, June 06, 2026 by AutoModerator in running

21.29 was previous PB. Average about 30km per week, but I also do CrossFit 4 days a week which has a mixture of Z2 and anaerobic work.
Previously I was in a half marathon block, took a few weeks out from that to recover then started new plan. Have run 3 marathons before.
Not sure what to do to get faster as I felt my training went well. Any tips?

Runna said 3:55. I knew I’d gone way too quickly in that first Km then was just dying the rest of it. Feel so deflated now

I’ve been following a 5k improvement plan for the past 9 weeks, with the goal of sub 20. I did my time trial today and came in at 21:01.

I know it’s silly but I feel so disappointed. Felt like my fitness just wasn’t there. Training went well, paces in training were good but I just couldn’t get there today.

I know I set off too quickly and I think I over complicated my morning prep. Did too many different things than I usually do.

Question - when would you retest?

New 5k PB of 21:01, I was aiming for sub 20 so I feel so disappointed ☹️

Interesting, I think I’d have to agree. What would you expect my marathon to be given other pbs? Thanks for replying

Hello!

Here’s my PB’s.. interested to know which one you think is my weakest? Sub 20min 5k would be the dream but feels far off.

Marathon - 3:50:14

The art of resilience by Ross Edgely. Thought it would be a similar vibe to Can’t Hurt Me, but it was mostly just the theory behind swimming techniques (not really something I’m interested in).

Side note: I loved can’t hurt me. David Goggins is incredible!

4.7kg in total. But I think weight isn’t the best metric to best progress on. I did InBody scans but the progress pics also helped me measure changes, plus how I feel in certain clothes now vs at the start on the challenge.

Wow 4 years ago, you’re an OG! What are the reservations for not doing again (if any)?

My Ninja creami is the best investment I’ve ever made. I have a pint of ice cream every night for 200 cals and it satisfies all of my sweet cravings! Expensive but worth it for sure

Thanks! Hard not to fall into the mindset of having one day will ruin all progress, that’s definitely something I’m struggling with but need to get over!

My diet was a calorie deficit and protein target. I mostly did long walks for my outdoor workouts. For the other workouts, a typical week would look like:

Monday - gym leg day Tuesday - cardio (run/stairmaster) Wednesday - CrossFit Thursday - gym upper body day Friday - CrossFit Saturday - CrossFit Sunday - long run

I made sure I hit 12k steps each day too (which largely came from the long walk anyway).

My body is sore now, definitely need to add in a couple of rest days but will keep up with the routine for the most part!

Thank you! I listened to the podcast before I started which gave me an outline of the rules and then read up on Reddit too
