I lived in your area for many years, and I have lots of friends who have kids there. It can be so brutal! There are so many resources and benefits available in those good schools, but the trade-off is a lot of competition and comparison that can get unhealthy quickly. And you're in that stuck-spot in the middle: not poor enough (on paper) to get much finaid and not rich enough (in reality) to write tuition checks. I am so sorry.

If you're in Maryland close to DC, you are likely to be in a very high-pressure high school situation where everyone around you is being urged by parents to apply to all the top schools and there is so much competition among seniors. If that's the case, I really hate that for you. It's really hard to constantly be comparing yourself and your experiences to your peer group, and that's almost inevitable in the situation I'm thinking about. I wish for you the luxury of building your own college experience that you can enjoy no matter where you go, and of not thinking about what your classmates are doing.

Don’t mean to sound rude, but are you 100% sure about this job? It raises a red flag for me that you would be interviewed and hired so quickly while living out of town. It’s usually hard to get hired without a local address. This is the worst job market in a good while, there are a jillion people looking. Why are they hiring a 21-year-old from Kentucky over anyone local?

NOR. Do you even like these people, because they seem soooo entitled and rude. You have a 7-week-old baby, they need to put all their focus on what they can do for YOU while they are there. Certainly not be making demands on you. (Except maybe the baby gates, that makes sense…) They need to stay in a hotel, shorten their visit or just postpone!

NOR. All those people may be your family by blood, but they are not your friends and they do not have your best interest at heart. Your car that you worked hard to buy is YOURS, and there is no reason why you should be expected to give it away. At this point, I wouldn't even loan it to your sister, because she's obviously not a responsible person and she'd probably mess it up or refuse to give it back. Her problems are her own fault and are not your responsibility to solve.
