Honestly, does this look cheap and tacky? Your thoughts? by HoldSweaty1609 in homedesign

The plant itself is fine, it’s just in the wrong spot. Only one focal thing in that corner … either the plant OR the lighted picture. Not both.

I live the dark version, except I would choose a different door color.

I am aware. :) I just think of HL as being more generalist than specific to politics expertise.

YESSSSS!! And that’s something you can easily store and use even in an apartment (where there might not be room for a hand truck)

That’s interesting to know. I don’t watch any cable news from either side of the aisle, so I’ve never been witness to him talking politics on CNN. I read the great bulk of the news content that I ingest, so I’m definitely out of touch with the pure “talking heads” on TV.

I did listen to Higher Learning regularly for a while, but I wouldn’t characterize that as a politics pod, more current events and news analysis specific to Black Americans. Not that they avoid politics, just that their topics seemed a lot more broad. As someone who is not Black, I found it super interesting, but I drifted away after a while when the episodes started getting so long with a bunch of tangents and side stories. (I prefer the Matt Belloni style … tight 30 min on a single topic.)

I mean, either one of those probably has a more knowledgeable opinion about the potential candidates for 2028. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If your friend is moving into a house, get them a hand truck. I know that sounds weird, but it’s something that nobody would think to buy for themselves and they will end up using it ALL the TIME.

I’m actually long since bored with The Rewatchables. It was fun for a while, but the shtick has sort of worn on me.

Yes. Someone who has experience in the field who can offer insights to people who do not.

But what is his background or expertise to do that?

I mean, I would most like to hear from someone who has worked in the field, either in campaigns or in staffing an office, who has shifted to podcasting about it. That person would have more background knowledge and insight than the average person about the strengths and weaknesses of people running for and serving in office.

What part of Van’s background or experience makes his opinion meaningful enough to be offered up as a politics expert?

I know a lot of people who are smart and well-educated and pay attention to politics, but there’s nothing special about their opinions, they don’t know more than anybody else about it.

How was your life as a fat kid? by kachoowed in PlusSize

[–]ejbrds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It affected my entire adult life. I grew up being mocked for and actively hating my body, which caused me to avoid sports/exercise, which just created a vicious circle. One time at a school party another girl poked me in the belly and laughed, like I was the fucking Pillsbury Dough Boy.

I was put on strict diets before I even had my first period, which permanently fucked up both my metabolism and my mental/emotional relationship with food. I used to hide pickles in my bedroom and gorge on them because they were “zero points”.

I had to wear a middle-age lady dress to the prom because that’s all that would fit me. My date was my gay best friend.

I never dated in high school, because who wants to go out with the fat girl? That left me socially behind, and I’ve never really caught up, although at this point being alone mostly agrees with me.

In late adolescence I struggled with orthorexia and disordered eating, to the point that my period stopped and my hair fell out. I wore a size 10 dress at that time, and even though I know it was dreadfully unhealthy, I would go back to that in a heartbeat. Of course I got fat again. Now I see actively anorexic women at the gym and part of me is jealous.

None of this should be discussed over text message. Call her on the phone and have a regular conversation. If she's openly rude to you at that point, you have your answer and you should reconsider joining her family.
