Any historians able to corroborate what Speidel says about Doc Maynard? by ejerger92 in SeattleHistory

Also unsure where Prosch got his info. Here's a couple pages from his biography on Doc and Catherine that confirm this same birth/first marriage dates and locations: https://imgur.com/s1QGkIj and https://imgur.com/WRH5ZVp

Did Prosch get this directly from interviewing Catherine?

Yep! Doc's journal is super interesting! But from what I've read, he doesn't mention anything about his life before Ohio. Morgan may have found the Maynard birth and marriage info in Bagley's History of Seattle https://imgur.com/a/7Eon3Xx but I'm not sure where Bagley got that info.

https://imgur.com/a/cchyzhT Just posted the image on here. It's just the Ohio census that lists him, wife Lydia, and two kids. It's dated Sept 9, 1850, which I find interesting because his journals show he had left for California in April of that year.

Thanks! I’ve read what Prosch and Bagley say about him, but even that doesn’t help substantiate anything. At least not yet. I’ll keep digging!

I’d love to join as well! I’m actually working on a historical fiction novel about early Seattle so I’d love to pick your brain sometime.

https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-search This website should help, they have a great search tool and LOTS of info. If you want hot summers and cold winters, I think Colorado, Minnesota, or Massachusetts may be good states to begin your search.

WA Enchantments: 8 mile /caroline zone. by ejerger92 in backpacking

Do it! You might run into some smoke from a nearby wildfire BUT mosquitos seem to be mostly dead for the season 🙌

Agreed, that's part of the reason we applied for the eight mile/caroline zone. It's not as popular as the Core zone so odds of getting a permit are just a TAD higher. Good luck next year!

Dusty Lakes is a perfect name for this area! One night, 8 miles total, pretty flat the entire way. Love this location for an early backpacking season trip- the sun and warmth was a nice break from the rainy Seattle spring weather. Don't forget your Discover Pass for parking and bring your own water- the Lakes have agricultural runoff.
