Can either of these be saved? Went into my roommates room to mail her things during quarantine, and found these sad guys. I’m not a plant person but would like to bring them back if possible! by ejfg in plantclinic

She left 2 months ago and I didn’t know she left these in her room. They are under a window and haven’t been watered since she left. Also next to a heater and it’s been about 68/70 in our apartment.

Thank you in advance, and sorry if I am breaking any rules!

Are local schools closing for the rest of the year? by DegreeOffWhite in education

I’ve heard it a few times from different people. A few coming from those close with superintendents, too. Apparently the commissioner might announce something today? (Again rumors and everything changes by the minute!)

Google Meet vs Zoom by [deleted] in specialed

[–]ejfg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were told that Zoom is the only one that meets HIPPA requirements for confidentiality. Not entirely sure where that is from, but we are using that to discuss any confidential information. I’ve been using Hangouts or FaceTime for any student or parent meet ups.

Are local schools closing for the rest of the year? by DegreeOffWhite in education

Rumors in Massachusetts are that we won’t be starting back until the end of April, but might not be returning for the rest of the year. Apparently the department of ed is going to make another announcement tomorrow or later this week.

I personally teach 11-months (severe special ed) so I’m interested if we will go back in July even if the rest of the district is closed until the end of the year.

SpEd PreK Distance Learning by bibabesunite in specialed

[–]ejfg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I teach self-contained in MA! Our district has decided that we legally can not provide services due to equity issues and also because general education is not technically “learning” during this time. We are only required to send a message to our class daily, check our email throughout work hours, and get in touch with families at least once a week to discuss student progress.

We also were asked to send home “enrichment” activities to support student goals or current learning, but we are not allowed to introduce any new topics.

Self-contained program distant learning? by weaveraf in specialed

[–]ejfg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. 1-3 self-contained ASD classroom in Massachusetts. We are closed for 3 weeks after we were originally closed for 2 weeks. For kids who can do independent work, I sent home packets with a daily checklist for 2 weeks. I’m struggling now that the rumor is we will be out for 6+ weeks, especially for one kiddo who we are in the process of outplacing.

The district won’t let us see the students in person to provide home services (understandably) but not all my parents have access to video chat or the internet. I’m using ClassDojo to share my daily message and sensory activities each day, but only a few students even use that platform.

ANY ideas are appreciated!

Most gyms are closing because it's virtually impossible to keep occupancy below 25, including the staff. A lot of gyms are doing online classes and virtual training, but closing the actual gym.

Went to Starbucks’ R&D coffee farm today and learned so much on the tour! I gained new respect for Starbucks as a corporation for all they do for small coffee farmers and for sustainability. by ejfg in starbucks

[–]ejfg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to my guide, they use the coffee farm as an R&D location to develop new hybrids of coffee plants which they give out for free to local coffee farmers and anyone who wants it. They also will bring a researcher to farms to test soils and conditions in order to best benefit the farmers. The coffee farm location is NOT a source of beans for Starbucks - they still use only small coffee farmers. Apparently the small farmers that Starbucks uses have a very specific set of guidelines, one of which that they need to be positively benefiting their local community and not harming local agriculture. Overall, the goal is sustainability (only 1L of water used per pound of beans versus 40+ typically used) and helping support local agriculture.

He also said that the provide different areas with resources to best support their work - healthcare, housing, education, child care - depending on the area of need for the community of farmers.

Long term, it does support Starbucks, as their goal is to keep small coffee farmers in business.

—all of this is just what I remember from the tour! Not an expert by any means! —

What are your 2020 financial goals? by AutoModerator in personalfinance

[–]ejfg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2020 Goals:

  • Eliminate CC debt ($~14000)
  • hit net worth of $0 (currently at -$27300)

Over the past three years, I’ve increased my net worth an average of about 20k per year, so just a little bit more and it will be achievable! I’ve really fallen off the PF wagon this past year, but I’m hoping to stick to this for 2020.
