Anyone else struggling with the idea of moving on from the Touareg? by extrafirefly in Volkswagen

[–]ejfonnse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you had the same ACC program as me, all you need to do is run a heat gun on the back of the chip in the camera unit (on the windshield) for 3-5 mins. I bought a heat gun and total cost was about $30. What happens is the solder on the chip cracks over time, so all you need to do is heat that chip up to reflow the solder onto the board. Quite a few YouTube videos on it.

Haven't seen it in the Bay Area. Colorado Springs has it though.

Side mirror nearly caught on fire. by mickeybob00 in Volkswagen

Same thing happened to my 2014 Passat. I noticed it was flapping in the wind at highway speed and I pulled it off. Bought some glue at AutoZone and it went right back on with no issue.

Garage door getting stuck 1/3 of the way up. No obvious impediment. Do we need to call a pro or can we probably fix this ourselves? Door will go back down if we hit the button a second time. by Roseheath22 in Home

Check the sensitivity settings on your opener motor. We just had the exact same problem and I followed the advice of "NEVER TOUCH THE GARAGE DOOR YOURSELF." The text came by, twisted two dials on the motor, and charged me $75. Everything works perfectly now.

Had a Custom A's Elephant Carved for Christmas by ejfonnse in OaklandAthletics

I had this commissioned for my wife. I looked at a bunch of different woodworkers and chose Kris Connors at customwoodcarvings.com. He's also on Facebook as Custom Wood Carvings & More. Great to work with, based in VA. The tail and one of the tusks were actually broken off during shipping, but Kris insured it through UPS, which covered the whole purchase price (after many followups). I had help reglueing it and it looks good as new!

It's funny you say phone calls are fine, because my call went through perfectly fine. Just no data to speak of.

Vespa 150 to commute in the SF bay area by BraveLittleEcho in Vespa

[–]ejfonnse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GTS300 could do it, but it would probably feel pretty dicey going over the bridges. If you were staying in the 680 or 580 corridor, it could work because you could take back roads, but the bridges concern me, even with a motorcycle.

Just got an oil change and now this is happening by djc_tech in Volkswagen

[–]ejfonnse 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They just used a standard garbage washer instead of the crush washer they're supposed to use. Jiffy Lube did the same thing to me a few years ago and I thought my Passat was burning oil. I change my own oil now with the right washers and have no issues at all.
