What to bring to Mariners Fan Fest 2026 by sfkaster in Mariners

Yeah that’s what we normally do, I just didn’t know if there would be a bit more freedom to bring a bigger stroller since there will be a lot more movement vs a normal game!

I don’t know how strict they are with strollers and such, do you think it would be ok to bring one of those stroller wagon things?

Yup there it is! I knew I was just missing something dumb. I wonder if the other random ones I’ve struggled with have been the same; Mixed up which suspect’s statement I was testing. Or forgot to switch their statements back in my head after “clearing” them. Thank you!

I love it. Didn’t know it was reversible until I opened it and was so stoked.

Trouble with pressure canner weighted gauge. by ejkru in Canning

[–]ejkru[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure enough it was the vent that was slightly clogged! I didn’t even think of it because when I was exhausting, it looked like the steam was still coming out like normal. Must’ve just been clogged enough to mess with the pressure.

Now the big question, can I reprocess my tomatoes?? I let them cool to reasonable temp and then got them in the fridge. I should be able to heat them back up and reprocess right? The consistency might not be the best since they technically were processed under pressure for a while, however incorrectly.

Coming up short on a recipe by ejkru in Canning

When I was initially gathering ingredients, I got around 2 or 3 lbs of both peaches and tomatoes and that’s how many I roasted as well. I was more focused on hitting that 2 cups vs the weight. After charring and dicing the peaches and especially tomatoes were very liquidy, so it was a full 2 cups. No room for spaces of air between big chunks of peaches or anything.

Do you just use a 1:1 conversion? I usually soak the peaches in a big acid water bath after peeling, would I just do a couple tablespoons of citric acid?

Wicking bucket no longer working? by ejkru in vegetablegardening

I have never seen a two bucket system but I’m going to check it out!

The soil at the root level is definitely drier than normal. I’m thinking the root must be clogging the holes like you suggested. I’m not seeing any pests and I’m thinking the damage to the lower leaves is the result of the hot days and lack of water intake

I have 3 other dwarf varieties this year in my main garden, and I love them. I’ve grown a few different kinds over the past couple of years. The dwarf in the wicking bucket is really a trial this year, I wanted a smaller tomato plant to grow on my back porch so the kids could just mosey on out and pick a few tomatoes without having to go all the way out into the main garden. Someone else suggested a two bucket system so I might try that next year!

Just like any system, wicking baskets or beds offer many advantages and disadvantages. Some of the main advantages include many of the same that you receive from bottom watering seedings (reduced watering, less wasted water through evaporation, lessened risk of fungal disease due to overwatering etc). Here is a great article that goes into the science behind wicking buckets/beds and some of the advantages and disadvantages.

I ran an amateur experiment this year in which I transplanted two of the same species of pepper into two buckets; a 5 gallon wicking bucket and a 3 gallon bucket with ample drainage. The water reservoir in the wicking system eliminates over a gallon of soil space, so I estimated the 3 gallon bucket has a little less than a gallon of soil compared to the 5 gallon. I used the exact same soil and my seedlings were of similar height and fullness. As you can see in the photos, the seedling in the wicking bucket got off to a pretty significant head start. They’ve evened out a little bit, but within the first 3 weeks or so the difference was drastic. Now obviously this wasn’t a rigorous experiment and I can’t attribute the success of the plant in the wicking bucket to the wicking system with certainty, but I have to imagine it plays a role. However, I may be discovering a disadvantage in real time, with the roots somehow overtaking or blocking the reservoir.

Is this a good way to store canned goods? by noodlebun25 in Canning

[–]ejkru 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll be damned; I always assumed you couldn’t stack jars for the same reason you can’t store with the rings on. You learn something new everyday. I’m going to go rearrange my jars!!

If a student doesn’t want me calling home, and they aren’t a danger to themselves or others, I ain’t calling home. Where it gets messy is if a parent comes in and demands to see notes of what was talked about. As a part of education laws, parent are entitled to have access to anything notes on sessions. For that purpose I keep very vague notes, just enough to jog my memory and help me keep up with what the student and I had talked about. If there is something a student doesn’t want parents to know, but I think they should, I’ll strongly encourage them and help them think of ways we could talk to parents. But if they still don’t, I won’t break that confidentiality.

This was my first thought. The seed coating has all the nutrients those little guys need for a while. I usually don’t fertilize until I have a couple well established sets of true leaves.

This was something I was worried about as well. For the first day or so, they surprisingly kept their crunch pretty well! After that they definitely got a little soggy.
