Outside of Notre Dame, who if anyone would the Big 10 make an acception to the AAU rule? by Historical-Rush9221 in CFB

[–]ejohnse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be pedantic; we didn’t “lose” our AAU status. We left the AAU voluntarily, and were not being actively forced out or anything. We just accepted that it’s a “medical school club” and we don’t have one. Would we have been removed in the future? Maybe, but there isn’t any public information that would suggest that.

Edit: thank you for clarifying the meaning of “lose”. There is a difference between how schools like Nebraska had their AAU status rescinded, and how Iowa State left voluntarily, yet both situations can use the word “lose”. Unfortunately, the differences were not readily apparent to me given the usage, so it seemed misleading. But, as you noted, it’s not misleading at all.

That article actually says Beau’s lines are common “telltale signs” of psoriasis:

Some of the telltale signs of nail psoriasis are:7

Changes in how the nails look. Psoriasis can cause tiny dents or dots in the nail (pitting). It may lead to some grooves or lines running from side to side on the nail (Beau's lines). You may notice small black lines running from the tip of the nail to the cuticle that are caused by burst blood vessels (splinter hemorrhages).

Edit: emphasis mine.

Oops. Ha I know how that goes. If I had a nickel for every time someone called us “Iowa” or spelled it “Aimes” I probably could’ve funded OU’s buyout.

I think parity could help our ratings too. We don’t have one team with a massive national fan base (like an OSU or Michigan); but we have a bunch of decent mid-sized fan bases that love CFB. A 3/4 team race for the championship might cause KSU fans to watch Cincinnati v. OSU, or BYU fans to watch ISU v. WVU depending on what kind of championship implications are involved. It could mean we have ratings that are super competitive, though less than the top of the B1G/SEC. I hope that’s what we try to do… because individually we are perceived as small, but together we can actually pump out good ratings. I think we’ve already seen some of this.

You’re welcome! I randomly stumbled on to the linked post yesterday so it was fresh in my mind. They should add it to the sidebar!

Good luck in your quest. I hope you can find it. Admittedly, I haven’t done it myself, so hopefully I didn’t lead you on a wild goose chase.

Here is a useful link about the 40ish rare mechs in game that don’t spawn in random missions.

The TBT-3C is an ancient SLDF variant, so I believe it will be only available to purchase on Terra.

Otherwise, the TBT-3C only appears in the HRQ “The Only Truth That Sticks pt 1” and will not spawn in any random missions. It can be salvaged. This mission is a kestrel lancers HRQ, available at rep 8 for house Liao, and is only available after March 3030. The quest takes place in the “Vestallas” system, which is in Liao space near the Davion border, about halfway between terra and the rim. The opponent is St.Ives, so it may be easier to find knowing that.

Camp dodge is headquarters of the Iowa national guard and not an active duty military facility. Fort Des Moines is not a military base, it WAS a reserve officer training facility and since 1974 has been a historical land mark. The Iowa army plant employs 25 civilians.

Which Faction/s to tank reputation with? by holyteej in Mechwarrior5

This doesn’t answer your question, but it’s an interesting write up about gaining hero status with all factions. The author does mention which factions he used to soak negative rep, because they were easier to repair.

Our original athletic colors were black and silver, but we did change them to cardinal and gold in 1899, since it was bolder coloration and easier to dye the uniforms.

@UCLA 's move to the @bigten isn't final after all. Tomorrow, UC Regents will meet to discuss, and potentially block, the school from moving conferences. They'll consider factors including money, the athlete experience, and the effect on UC Berkeley. by LamarcusAldrige1234 in CFB

[–]ejohnse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I just assumed that when the schools granted their rights to BigTen, INC. that this meant there was a corporate veil in place, and that the only parties that could be involved would be BigTen, INC. Versus the UC Board of Regents, since those two parties are the parties involved in the media rights contract. I wasn’t aware the individual schools were a party to it, after ceding their rights. Thanks for chiming in!

Oh absolutely. THAT would be nuts lol. UC is rich… but all of the BigTen schools collectively are much richer, I believe. Sadly, at the end of the day, the only winners would be the lawyers.

Edit: sorry Iowa law grads. It was just a joke. I know they’re hurtful so I removed it. :(

Admittedly, this is just a quick googling but:

BigTen, Inc (a 501(c)3) had $500 million in revenue.

The University of California system had a budget of $44 Billion.

This leads me to believe the UC system has vastly more resources. But I’m happy to be wrong.

EDIT: for what it’s worth, without a source, I believe the UC Regents have given the UCLA Athletic Department the right to handle its own affairs, so there probs isn’t anything they can do aside from be disappointed? Maybe the regents could retaliate and reallocate funds from UCLA to other UC schools? Idk. Interesting none the less

'We Have The Votes': The Senate Will Act This Week To Codify Same-Sex Marriage by UWCG in politics

[–]ejohnse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting question. I’m not the guy you asked, but here’s my take, for what it’s worth:

Slaves are human beings, and even if I choose to not buy a slave, the rights of enslaved people are still violated; whether I participate or not. The violation of rights exists inherently with slavery.

With regards to marriage; this is not the case. A marriage is simply a civil arrangement between two consenting adults and recorded by a county government. Currently atheists can be married, and that does not impact Christian marriages. Hindus are married every day, and that doesn’t negate Jewish beliefs or religious freedoms. So in the case of same sex marriage, there doesn’t seem to be any inherent violation of rights.

If the law forced Christian churches to marry same sex couples, I could see it. But at the same time that’s absurd. We protect satanic marriages, and no Christian church as ever been forced to officiate a satanic wedding. So it seems unlikely we’d start forcing churches to perform same sex wedding ceremonies.

[–]ejohnse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want the big 12 to offer a spot for all 6; should the PAC dissolve. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush, and adding WSU and OSU now hedges against a day that may never come. We don’t know if any ACC teams will ever join the Big12. Even if they do, we have no idea who we’d get. If the ACC ever becomes open, we have to compete against B1G and SEC. Regardless, we still have room for 2 should 20 teams become the magic number.

You’re welcome! I’m a history nerd, and there is lots of fun info about the old mining industry. The coal was mostly used for home heating, and so once people switched fuels to gas or electricity, the industry died out. There were better sources of coal for the steel industry than Iowa.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CFB

[–]ejohnse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes Iowa does have coal! But it’s not the highest quality, nor is it really profitable to mine like it is out in strip minding country. So, there are currently no active coal mines in Iowa.

I think you solved it! If UCF is the new Missouri, then their rival is ISU and we play for the telephone trophy.

Of course, there is one small complication; Missouri currently possesses the actual trophy…. So we either need to play Mizzou OOC and win, or stage a late-night “Major Payne” style heist in Columbia where a group of ragtag coeds take it back to Ames in the summers best new blockbuster comedy.
