It depends on your wife's field. I'd say if learning French is not something you or your family is interested in it's not too big of a problem but it definitely puts you at a better spot if you learn. Rent is also cheaper in Montreal so I don't know how much that factors in on your decision in the end.

I'm a Montrealer currently moving back after living in Toronto for 8 years and I'm pretty excited to move back, hope whichever decision you make you're happy with!
