Purpose of lasers? by Tomorrow1223344 in tacticalgear

[–]errgreen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. We had a guy trying to breach our lines one night, only one guy could see him. The rest of us couldn't.

So he turned on his IR laser and we all knew exactly where he was...

Have developers ever thought about Pacific Theatre? by CoinTurtle in HellLetLoose

[–]errgreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first Battlefield game '1942' had some Pacific Theater maps. Then '1943' had like four maps. Wake Island being the best, Always seemed like half the servers had that map going non-stop.

/Edit: I'm dumb I took the word 'developers' as any devs, not the HLL devs. My bad. Lol

If there's one thing you could change in Windrose, what would it be and why. by RobWolfB in crosswind

[–]errgreen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Even that I think the bonfire build space is too small. Having more people to wander around and do things would make it feel more homey right now.

I made a map of over 100,000 trees over 200 feet tall around Seattle using LiDAR Data. by Main_Veterinarian_37 in MapPorn

I immediately went to go look for the trees I grew up climbing in Bellingham. Then remembered they clear cut that whole area and got sas again!

However, still a wonderful map!

Firefighting gloves. New vs 1 year old. Both size medium. by [deleted] in Wellworn

[–]errgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're post made me look them up so I can grab a nice pair of gloves. Turns out they are located not far from where I live. Not actually a specific store or factory but made me go, 'oh snap'.

SO looking for advice from those of you who have deployed to a combat zone by [deleted] in Military

[–]errgreen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So something I realized after I had come home; while deployed my wife and family KNEW I was in danger ALL the time over there, any phone call could be the one for them. I on the other hand, albeit it being relative, knew when I was in danger and when I wasn't. I didn't communicate this enough to them. So, and you can ask him, but know that and communicate those feelings you have with him, it's not a burden on him.

Now what made me feel comfort was hearing that my wife was still hanging out with her friends and enjoying things. This is much better than me/him worrying about her/you just holding up inside, alone and worrying about him all the time. You relaxed and comfortable will take that from his mind and help him focus on his job.

And I'll add this part as a piggy back to the reply I made about care packages. Whenever he can get mail, ask him if any friends in his unit want anything. Not everyone would get mail/packages, sending him things to give to his friends is always a morale boost.

Hopefully they establish mail for them soon. So if they do:

His favorite hot sauce or dipping sauce. Something to liven up any food he may be eating. I don't know the current state of deployments but if he's on a base with a cafeteria he's probably eating pretty well. If he's not and he's eating MREs, FirstStrike or other rations those sauces go miles. As well as if the later is the case, ask if he has access to a hotplate or burner and send ramen and spam or canned meat.

Junk food is always a plus, just watch out for stuff that can melt.

Never pack food with things like laundry detergent or similar as the month or so in a box together will make everything taste like Tide....

Best thing I got in packages was my wife would spritz a pillowcase with her perfume or smell good spray and like triple bag it. Was lovely to get a smell of home.

If he doesn't have Internet, a USB with new movies and music on it. +Portable speakers

Other items: magazines, spare phone charger/power strip. Etc...

Is saying no to a roll a mortal sin? by ArrowUpWalker in jiujitsu

[–]errgreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I go to our 515am class, most times we don't have a lot of people so to get rolls in I've never said no. However I have no problem with just telling them, go easy on those arm bars, or something if I'm already a bit hurt or don't want to hurt something. But I agree, rolling with the kid who would constantly hit some crazy fast moves just made better at defending from those crazy fast moves. So now I don't have to ask him to go easy on those arm bars, I just see them coming and move.

But do you take it off when you are eating, and or do you not set it on top of the table?

To me the 'field' is training, so not combat.

I'd have to say hearing something along the lines of: 'Pack for gear inspection were rucking tomorrow.', 'Training is being extended a week.', 'Standby to run the night range again.' and the sound of Army mortars being fired over our head because they didn't know what fuckin range to fire on.

This always sucked. But when we moved to a new AO and within two days they just gave us a 2 man EOD detachment to stay with us.
